Irene Adler: I am very smart. Smart woman. Smart smart woman. Sherlock: Your phone password is literally a pun on my name.
@sleepingdogpro5 жыл бұрын
Which is why the original story is better. She was smart, genuinely so, but even more than that she didn't have to put the effort into BEING smart - the men all assumed they knew more than she did, and she got away with it in the end simply because their egos were too big. Which is a bit of schooling that any iteration of Sherlock could stand to have, really. The only person to ever outsmart Sherlock, and that was the whole reason he liked her. The original Adler would have laughed at this one. And this one is a bit of an insult, to be honest.

If you watch closely, when she says “ the ice man, and the virgin” Sherlock starts to figure out her password, it’s not till she finishes and says “ now that’s my kind of man”, he realizes that she’s taunting him more than she’s needs to, why go over and over about him, it’s because she actually loves him, she’s trying to convince herself he’s not worth it and that she’s making the right choice, Sherlock then understands and remembers all the signs she accidentally showed him before, he just remembered it all. You fools! Sherlock was never angry in this scene. When Irene said "Moriarty sends his love", the revelation was brought by the word "love". He didn't decide to break the password because he got angry at the mention of Moriarty, he just cracked the case at the last moment. Afterwards he baited Mycroft to let her go - "If you are feeling kind, lock her up." He knew Mycroft was not feeling kind. Sherlock was expecting Irene to beg, but hearing her do so didn't change his course of action. He was already helping her, playing the game against Mycroft, pretending not to care.
@ahlambtz4 жыл бұрын
@Moxley You're spot on, when she says 'Now that's my kind of man' she says it with the sass of a rejected woman. Sherlock was probably the only person she'd never been able to seduce, and so she became obsessed with him. He turned the tables on her beautifully. They're both pretending they don't care for each other but she cracks and he doesn't.

I also prefer female characters who actually use their brains (unlike the ones in Bram Stoker's "Dracula" -- which I've never finished -- the female characters drive me straight up a wall). You'll notice that as soon as he picks up her phone and walks away that she instinctively follows him with her eyes locked on him like she's in a trance. She goes from being the confident Dom to the weak and insecure Sub in a matter of seconds going so far as to trying to dissuade him from revealing all of her secrets by apologising to him and telling him that she was just playing a game. After he hands over the phone to Mycroft and apologises he walks away and doesn't look at her until she says "Please." only to then coldly apologise about dinner and leave.

I just realised, at the beginning of this clip, Sherlock hears that Jim Moriarty is behind this, as well, and he realised for the first time that if he loses this, he loses to him, so his brain tries to solve the password for the last time, and at this dramatic moment, he is able to do it in a span of 30 seconds. =D
@Blasted2Oblivion5 жыл бұрын
That is an interesting idea. I had a slightly different one. She said "Jim Moriarty sends his love." I interpreted it as him picking up on the word love. The "one perfect word cracks the case" cliche, I know but if you consider that it was the fact that she actually loves Sherlock that allowed him to figure it out then it makes sense. Your idea is equally intriguing and just shows how such a small moment can be easily interpreted in several ways.

I don't think you're entirely wrong, however this is where she lost it. She had played her cards right till the point she says "now that's my kind of man", where she over compensates. She at that moment once more wanted to establish she did in fact not love Sherlock. If she didn't, she wouldn't have had to prove it multiple times. But right there, at that instance, she wants to make Sherlock know this one thing, which is where he catches her. This is because he already knew she loved him (when he took her pulse) so why would she have to establish otherwise Right when she says this is when he knows she loved him, and hence it's obvious in a second, it has to be "sherlocked" I hope I'm able to get my point across, it's a very slight observation of human psychology :)

Amazing actress, notice how her voice wobbles slightly when saying 'Look at the poor man'
