Irene Adler: I am very smart. Smart woman. Smart smart woman. Sherlock: Your phone password is literally a pun on my name.
@sleepingdogpro
@sleepingdogpro 5 жыл бұрын
Which is why the original story is better. She was smart, genuinely so, but even more than that she didn't have to put the effort into BEING smart - the men all assumed they knew more than she did, and she got away with it in the end simply because their egos were too big. Which is a bit of schooling that any iteration of Sherlock could stand to have, really. The only person to ever outsmart Sherlock, and that was the whole reason he liked her. The original Adler would have laughed at this one. And this one is a bit of an insult, to be honest.
@Landis963

@@scientia.veritas This is true. Pity Doyle didn't think to do much more with her. Sherlock had not much of a clue until she said James Moriarty sends his 'LOVE.' Everything fell in place in Sherlock's head when she said that word. If you watch closely, when she says “ the ice man, and the virgin” Sherlock starts to figure out her password, it’s not till she finishes and says “ now that’s my kind of man”, he realizes that she’s taunting him more than she’s needs to, why go over and over about him, it’s because she actually loves him, she’s trying to convince herself he’s not worth it and that she’s making the right choice, Sherlock then understands and remembers all the signs she accidentally showed him before, he just remembered it all. I love the writing and the story of Sherlock

@@RenaissanceM I don't think it's hidden. Sherlock was guarding himself a while ago when they were having a heartfelt moment and he was checking her pulse. He had basically already betrayed her confidence right there. I think more than anything he's just annoyed the relationship can't continue and he has to teach her a lesson. I think the "you hurt me now I hurt you" is just how it looks for viewers who want to feel that way. When really the forced coldness is more about competitive insult. This woman tried to screw him over and then loses by loving him too much and being kinda arrogant. I think he already treats his competition this way and the extra coldness is just all of his closed-off distrust of others being confirmed. Not a revelation, but a reiteration.

@@trever2244 I guess I'd better pop the DVD of Season 2 into my DVD player and watch that season's first episode again. I've seen it once, and really enjoyed most of it (I wasn't that interested in seeing Sherlock in a bedsheet, or Irene Adler mostly nude; I still don't think that either occurrence was necessary to the episode as a whole). What I liked most were the character interactions and dialogue (lots of very quotable lines). It made me wish that they could bring back Irene Adler (even if only in Sherlock's mind palace).

Sherlock didn't want to be tied down, but he felt genuine affection and interest towards Adler. It was more of a game to her, not really just love. You fools! Sherlock was never angry in this scene. When Irene said "Moriarty sends his love", the revelation was brought by the word "love". He didn't decide to break the password because he got angry at the mention of Moriarty, he just cracked the case at the last moment. Afterwards he baited Mycroft to let her go - "If you are feeling kind, lock her up." He knew Mycroft was not feeling kind. Sherlock was expecting Irene to beg, but hearing her do so didn't change his course of action. He was already helping her, playing the game against Mycroft, pretending not to care.

@Moxley You're spot on, when she says 'Now that's my kind of man' she says it with the sass of a rejected woman. But maybe that's a result of not being in elementary school anymore, back when I loved reading comic books (I'm 53 now). I also prefer female characters who actually use their brains (unlike the ones in Bram Stoker's "Dracula" -- which I've never finished -- the female characters drive me straight up a wall). They're alot more interesting.

"I imagine John Watson thinks love is a mystery to me, but the chemistry is incredibly simple and very destructive. When we first met, you told me that disguise is always a self portrait, how true of you, the combination to your safe - Your measurements. But this is far more intimate. This is your heart, and you should never let it rule your head. You could have chosen any random number and walked out of here today with everything you worked for. But you just couldn't resist, could you? I've always assumed love is a dangerous disadvantage. Thank you for the final proof."

I love how Sherlock is so ace and it actually works to his advantage… like, here Irene thought he was holding her hand because he had sexual feelings for her, but in reality he was just checking to see if her pulse quickened. Just playing the game, leading her on, making sure he had the advantage. Still thinking clearly, but letting her think his judgment was clouded by sentiment. Brilliant!

Because Sherlock was never romantically or physically interested in her. She was never the alleged "love interest" to Sherlock. That's officially stated. But he honestly admired her, and was impressed by her intelligence and cleverness.Their relationship was only "sapiosexual". Sherlock Holmes who isn't seriously interested in women and she is a proclaimed lesbian dominatrix, that's fits, really. And why was he so cold at the end? Because she was only playing a game with him and getting her orders how to do it from Moriarty, Sherlocks arch enemy.

@@suvamadhikari2996 Yes, but these movies hadn't anything to do with the original ACD story "A scandal in Bohemia" which was the only one where Irene was important for the story when both met. For the later stories she didn't play a role anymore. Sherlock Holmes never saw her again.

Its amazing how quickly her whole world crumbles the moment he tells her that he took her pulse and she realises that her world of absolute control was broken by her own body's involuntary reaction. You'll notice that as soon as he picks up her phone and walks away that she instinctively follows him with her eyes locked on him like she's in a trance. She goes from being the confident Dom to the weak and insecure Sub in a matter of seconds going so far as to trying to dissuade him from revealing all of her secrets by apologising to him and telling him that she was just playing a game. After he hands over the phone to Mycroft and apologises he walks away and doesn't look at her until she says "Please." only to then coldly apologise about dinner and leave.

I just realised, at the beginning of this clip, Sherlock hears that Jim Moriarty is behind this, as well, and he realised for the first time that if he loses this, he loses to him, so his brain tries to solve the password for the last time, and at this dramatic moment, he is able to do it in a span of 30 seconds. =D
@Blasted2Oblivion
@Blasted2Oblivion 5 жыл бұрын
That is an interesting idea. I had a slightly different one. She said "Jim Moriarty sends his love." I interpreted it as him picking up on the word love. The "one perfect word cracks the case" cliche, I know but if you consider that it was the fact that she actually loves Sherlock that allowed him to figure it out then it makes sense. Your idea is equally intriguing and just shows how such a small moment can be easily interpreted in several ways.

I don't think you're entirely wrong, however this is where she lost it. She had played her cards right till the point she says "now that's my kind of man", where she over compensates. She at that moment once more wanted to establish she did in fact not love Sherlock. If she didn't, she wouldn't have had to prove it multiple times. But right there, at that instance, she wants to make Sherlock know this one thing, which is where he catches her. This is because he already knew she loved him (when he took her pulse) so why would she have to establish otherwise Right when she says this is when he knows she loved him, and hence it's obvious in a second, it has to be "sherlocked" I hope I'm able to get my point across, it's a very slight observation of human psychology :)
