Well in part 2 Sherman and Buddy became two separate people with two different personalities and eventhough this is a great movie the sequel is the best one IMO.

Probably a mix of both. This is like comedic version of Jekyll and Hyde but Sherman lives and Buddy is gone until the sequel. When Sherman and Buddy became two separate people.

At first buddy love was just Sherman getting carried away and making up a fake identity to have fun with. But the more he kept taking and turning into buddy love, the more his testosterone levels increased and eventually created buddy love into his own separate personality
