Really liked this one. I want you both to host a separate series discussing these topics related to Muslim empires and other empires at large. Basically discussing their civil structures and interactions between those societies. It will be phenomenally successful. If you guys can title them with some history buzzwords like names of famous figures over here. This kind of discussion clearly has a market, case in point dekho suno jano and furqan qureshi. But I would advise it to be more like a documentary-style podcast, with better visuals. And more importantly, the displaying of books, cause it has a more deeper effect on a layperson in regards to the authenticity. Historical amnesia of wars immediately before the colonization, and even during colonization is pretty crazy. Like people legit say the West won because our side had swords and they had guns. It trivializes their 100-year effort to take over India. And by extention trivilizes us. Do it!

Excellent podcast. Just a couple of points to add. Islam presents a superior model of society by bonding them on an ideological basis. This is greater than any tribal or nationalistic bond. Another point here is about the apparent separation of executive from the jurisprudential (ulema and Sufis). I think that the correct way to view it is that this was part of the single state. The day the state vanished, the effectiveness of these ulema and Sufis vanished. So it was part and parcel of the same system. As for the scholarship in islam being a loose framework, I would suggest you go to a madrassa even today. There is nothing loose about the hierarchy there. There was an intricate system of succession among ulema at that time and a small glimpse of that exists today.

@@shahzadmalik96 I'm saying "State" is the incorrect word to use. The word "state" and the word "governance" are not synonyms. It is genealogically and thus inherently modern and european.

The podcast was a good one in comparison to many which are just not worth watching - like those which are mere ranting with Sahil Adeem and several others. But the sad reality is that Muslims today don't learn from primary-sources and specialist Muslim authors of their own faith. Wael Hallaq might be a better academician than the other non-Muslim academicians and orientalists, but several of his theories are clear-cut un-Islamic and against the well-accepted facts of Muslim-history - especially his work on fiqh and usul al-fiqh "Origins and evolution of Islamic law". Reading books of different authors broadens one's perspective but only when you are well-grounded in the subject that you are reading on. Both the panelists don't realise that they themselves have become an essential part of the "Western attack" on Islam when they use works of non-Muslims on Islamic sciences claiming that it is a "very good book" ('bohot acchi kitab hain') - when it is filled with errors. Several other claims and ideas of the panelists could be challenged and disproven within an hour, but the major concern here is the total lack of any sensitivity whilst approaching Islamic-sciences and taking 'ilm about Islamic-sciences from non-Muslims who are not even experts in comparison to Muslim-specialists! You don't even need to be an expert on Islamic-sciences merely following people like Farid Responds (Farid al-Bahraini) et cetera you'll find how Harvard, Yale, Cambridge trained so-called "experts" on Islam and its sciences being exposed, they don't know basic Arabic or make basic blunders about Islam and Muslim-history! The guest of the podcast seems to be far-away from researching primary-source materials which the sole indicator of serious scholarship and good understanding of the subject matter. Even a western-trained academic knows the importance of primary-source materials when speaking on a subject, but this is totally lost on our panelists when they talk about serious subjects related to Muslim-history (tarikh), Islamic-sciences ('ulum ad-Din), Siyasah (politics) et cetera. The lack of serious intellectualism is glaring throughout the podcast - unfortunately this is the case with many Pakistanis on social-media barring a few like Qaiser Ahmed Raja et. al.
@BlackWhite-jr7mp4 ай бұрын
@@_titanslayer_ , I have not assumed anything at all. You could not pinpoint one thing that I "assumed" about you. I never mentioned anything about you "claiming" to be an academic! I'm not sure if you are confusing other comments with mine. Your claim that I haven't made an 'argument', it is depictive of you not reading comments attentively. I clearly made my argument as simple as possible by stating, 'guest of the podcast seems to be far-away from researching primary-source materials which the sole indicator of serious scholarship and good understanding of the subject matter'. You haven't mentioned any primary-sources whilst discussing/mentioning 'Islamic-sciences' (fiqh, usul al-fiqh, ijmah, tarikh et. al.). If you have, please pin-point the timestamp and I'm ready to apologise for my mistake. I'm always ready to be corrected, there is no shame in learning new things and accepting mistakes (after all I'm just a human I can miss things and not understand things). After becoming baligh, age is just a number (not an excuse) when it comes to 'ilm. I'm happy that you are learning 'ilm from Muslim-specialists I heartily congratulate you on it and make du'a that you learn more beneficial 'ilm. By the way, my comment (it was a simple critical comment) doesn't prove anything about my intellectual acumen but only about the 'intellectualism' of Pakistan because I'm an Indian Muslim who resides in India. You also claimed that I "don't point out the problems in an argument but simply indulge in a blame game" which is simply untrue. I clearly pointed out a lack of mention or discussion, of 'primary-source materials' whilst discussing Islamic-sciences! If that doesn't seem to be a problem to you, I would suggest you stop with most of your online activities and seriously take to studying. Let me also make it clear that I don't "dislike" you, as you claim. Nor did you "say things that" I majorly disagree with or don't like - more importantly the podcast was a marathon without discussing anything in actual depth so there isn't much to disagree with until we know details and specific positions on several issues. Why are you assuming so much about me based on a clear but critical comment which is factful. You also ask me, that if I'm "not a student of knowledge from a madrassa nor have read any secondary sources on the subject". I've read from the primary-sources directly and I'm not a madrasah student, you don't need to be in a madrasah to take 'ilm from an 'alim who will provide you with a sanad and an ijazah on several Islamic--sciences ('ulum) and kutub. The madrasah system is just one of the many ways of getting 'ilm in Muslim-societies - it is newer approach in comparison to the one I am involved in. I personally prefer older Islamic way(s) of learning 'ilm. Similarly, I would like to write an entire paper on the errors of Prof Wael Hallaq. but you didn't mention those mistakes (but mentioned the book which has these) thus I didn't go on refuting you for the mistakes of Prof. Hallaq. You don't need to be an 'alim or even a talib al-'ilm to quote and cite from English translation of classical or modern works of the serious 'ulama. For instance, if you are talking on Ijmah you could have read and referred to the nusus or if not nusus at least the classical works like (translation) of Imam al-Mundhir titled "Consensus of The Islamic Jurists: al-Ijma" (Islamic Literary Foundation, 2014). If you are talking on Usul al-Fiqh you could have read and referred to (the translation of) Imam Shirazi's, "The Refulgence of the Principles of Islamic Jurisprudence: al-Luma‘ fi usul al-fiqh" (IBFIM, 2016). There are tons of modern and classical works translated into English today, if you didn't want to directly approach the nusus, but you failed to even mention these (or other classical works). No serious Muslim gives a damn what Prof. Wael Hallaq has to say on fiqh, usul al-fiqh or ijmah. He is respected as an academic but 'ilm about Din al-Islam is taken from specialists ('ulama) and those who are bona fide scholars ('ulama al-haqq). If you still don't see what you are lacking as a Muslim and how unprofessional and disingenuous it is to disregard primary-sources and classical works written hundreds of years ago if not millennia ago but still think you are trying to learn and disseminate anything serious about the subject matter! Finally, if you want my critique so eagerly try doing a podcast on one-topic (my expertise lies in history and comparative-philosophy and religion) of your choosing in detail and InshaAllah if you are mistaken on major areas I will write a paper in refutation and share it online for everyone to see - please don't assume much about me, al-Hamdulillah I have been writing articles against Hindu-religion(s) since I was 21-22 years old many of these are still available online and still are primary reference point for Muslims in their da'wah to Hindus.
