If she do not as her superiors expect, her chance to climb the ladder might be forever lost. It is not like there is a competitive global market for murderous battle mages out there. Also, it not even hinted at but she might be afraid that there ,s a possibility of her getting "killed in action" as well. All this is a reflex from her previous corporate life imo.
