I do love me frozen eels for bait, now I can appreciate how much work goes in!!

Love the comment, don't worry there are millions of them.They said that about the cod on the grand banks!!!. These sandeels are probably the most important of all in the fish and sea birds food chain.

Amazing catch ! 😃... Can you freeze them in a normal household freezer or do they need to be blast frozen first ? Thanks for any info 👍🏻

My Friend Martin was told by the fisheries people that there is a ban on anglers taking Sandeels. If you dig one accidentally you could be fined £1000. Total farce just like most of the fishery policies designed to 'protect' the fisheries. As if anglers make the slightest difference - or ever have!

@@kerryfoster1 thats not true

Well I couldn't care less if it's true or not! If I dig sandeels I WILL keep them. Damn good bait especially when live. In forty years of fishing I have not made the slightest difference to fish stocks or ever will. Or would should I say. I rarely fish now - nothing worth the effort there now thanks to EEC fishing policy...

Those are sand eels, There are several different sub species. Those are Greens, there is reds yellows and a shorter breed we call cats. Catching them and selling them from the shore like this requires no licence and is legal.

quite an understatement as big fish stocks are down 90% since 1950 yet the same people had and continue to underestimate the sustainability of the ecosystem
@JohnJones-cp4wh3 жыл бұрын
@@wazup3333 Big fish can take a few years to mature, sandeels only a short life, so mature very quickly.

That is only a minuscule fraction of what's in the area, and has a negligible effect on the local stocks. It is countries that rape the seas of higher up predatory fish. China being the worst offenders by a large margin. These bottom of the food chain species are only for local anglers and amount to almost nothing.
