Brandon Hoover I think of it this way: A shiba's screams and whines can be similar to a child's cries and tantrums. A kid who isn't getting exactly what they want may scream their lungs out in an effort to kill the parent's willpower and make them cave into the kid's demands. The only reason CPS isn't called every time a child is screaming and wailing at the supermarket is because everybody already has at least a basic understanding of this and they aren't alarmed by the sight, even if they don't have kids of their own. Kids can make not getting the toy they want sound as dramatic and terrible as if the parents were brutally murdering all of their favorite people. I actually find that rather impressive. Not everyone is as familiar with Shiba inus as they are with human children, so hearing the screams can be incredibly distressing and worrying, even if the pup is simply being manipulative and not actually in pain/distress.

But yes, they scream at almost everything they find remotely "I would rather not", but if they were in pain...it is Far different, but this is just the dog like "Eh....do I HAVE to get a bath...? Dogs don't know it's for the cleaning u know... So you can't just put a dog which is worried in a bath and just let them scream and whines.

+Brandon Hoover Thank you! I own a Shiba Inu and she does this whenever she feels like making a scene. It can mean multiple things, even if it is just when they want to say "do not like". To the people saying giving the dog a bath is abuse, it's not. Dogs need baths and SHOCKINGLY not all pets like baths. But it's not hurting them, and is necessary. So wah. My Shiba screams at me whens she wants things too, haha. It's their way of making a scene when they are not truly distressed. Like a toddler throwing a tantrum, haha.

Sometimes my shiba inu overreacts too. When you try to cut its nails, even if you cut the air instead he will scream like his whole leg has been cut off. And whenever I walk my dog, if you don't let him go the direction he desired, he would use all his strength pulling you and show you an fat angry face.

Jewboy Correction, MOST Dogs need to be bathed not all... the only idiots here are the people saying all Dogs need bathed, look up info on something before spouting stupid stuff you know nothing about which makes you look like an Idiot yourself in return. Shiba's in fact do not need to be Bathed more then like twice a year they also do not need brushed very often, only some during hotter times of the year when they start shedding. The reason they do not need to be Bathed very often is because they have Water/Dirt Repellent Coats which causes them to almost never get dirty, from personal exp it takes my Shiba 4-6 Months before she needs a Bath and she only needs to be brushed 2-4 times in the summer, the rest of the time a Shiba will normally Self Groom itself and that is why they are called Self Grooming Dogs. also the Dog screaming that loud is both Normal and not Normal, it depends on the owner and if they trained the dog right, If he trained it wrong or it is learning then this makes sense, but if it does this when its been trained then they are either Hurting it, doing something wrong, or are shitty owners and went against literally everything said about Shiba's and bought a Shiba as there first Dog. However from my exp this just seems like a Shiba at its finest, It is trying to make them believe it is in pain so it can get out of taking a bath. Shiba's are very intelligent Dogs and know how to Manipulate a Human/Owners Emotions to the point of feeling bad for the dog or being Embarrassed because of the dog. So when it comes down to it, this video says 3 things #1 The dog is still being trained #2 They are bad at training it #3 They are giving it to many Baths (Shiba's Do not need more then like 2-3 Baths a year)

Shiba's are common in Asia, loads of people have them in Singapore and they are known for their screaming so much that some locals have an infamous name for it - forgot what it is. Something along the lines of shibescream. It's not hurt, it's just how they are. They are really stubborn and yell a lot, mainly at other Shibes LOL. Interestingly they do not physically fight or attack other Shiba's, just argue with them, which is why the locals have a name for the screaming sound. They are docile and do not tend to bite or attack unless in harms way. They have cat-like behaviour, and hate water. They also have very cat-like mannerisms and do their own thing. This is just a typical Shiba being a sassball, it's not hurt, just a diva. Shiba's are fantastic actors, and are known very well in Asia for their schematic/freethinking tendencies.

To end all the talks of abuse... I am a groomer and know for a fact that dogs only need to be bathed every 6 to 8 weeks. Yes, it's a necessity to bathe every 6 to 8 weeks because the oils on the skin can build up too much and cause a bacterial infection. Too much bathing before the 6 to 8 weeks comes can cause skin issue such as dry skin and/or raw skin. However, if the dog needs to be bathed due to getting dirty at the dog park, rolling in something smelly, etc., you can bathe them sooner but using a gentle shampoo. Leaving the shampoo soak on the skin is good for the dogs skin and can soothe any booboos or just soothe the skin in general. Especially if you are using oatmeal shampoo or medicated. So for everyone that says this is abuse, it is not. Its them being responsible pet parents. Who ever told you its not okay to bathe your dog more than twice a year is super dumb and i hope you don't follow that advice, ask a vet next time..

One of our Shibas does the saaaaaaame daaaaaaamn thing when we put medicine in her ear. She actually wacked me with her head. It doesn't hurt that much; it's just weird and she doesn't like it, so the obvious reaction is to scream and hope we put her down. Same thing with toenail clipping, plucking some really loose fur off their butts during shedding... Babies.

everyone who whines about the video most likely does not own a shiba... this is just how many shibas act, they are the drama queens of the dog world. my shiba has calmed down when she get her baths now and doesn't scream but my god when she got her first bath she screamed as if we were skinning her alive. not only shibas do this, i had a poodle that hated being brushed so she screamed even if the brush just touched her in hopes of us showing her pity and letting her go. she made such a show while our other poodle just sat quietly and let himself be brushed and trimmed without any fuss. either way, shibas are known for being tricky and if you are not vigilant it is you who is being trained and not the dog :P

Hello, dog groomer here with some advice. You're doing a good job handling her, because it's important to be firm and quick about it, but next time you really should wash her head, especially around the backs of her ears. Also, when rinsing her, you didn't drain the sink and therefore left her paws and half of her legs still in the soapy water. Yeah, don't do that. Make sure you rinse her off all the way, and don't leave any water in the sink. Otherwise good job.

Knowing how dramatic and hysterical shibas can get, I gave Koji a bath as soon as we brought him home from the breeder's. Then I proceeded to bathe him once a week for the next 4 weeks to desensitize him from the stress of bathing. The first 2 times I bathed him in the tub, then I started bathing him directly on the bathroom floor, where there is a water drain. He hated the confinement of the tub, but on the bathroom floor with me, he started to enjoy the experience. I would fill a jug with warm diluted shampoo, pour is gently over him, massage the mixture into his fur and end with a pure lukewarm water rince. Afterwards, he gets dried and a massage. He's now 16 weeks and I bathe him once every 2 weeks. He has no skin issues whatsoever. If he did I would have stopped. I will continue this regimen until he reaches adulthood to make sure bathing does not begin an issue. Hope this helps future shiba owners. Shibas are the best dogs in the world!

My Shiba hates baths too. it's better to make them fast/short. one thing! -putting shampoo directly onto the dog can dry out their skin. suds it up in your hands with a little water, otherwise they can get real itchy!!! I like to use a dog shampoo with flea and tick repellent in it. But yeah, my Shiba would literally scream during baths too. With age she's calmed down a little, and she gets REALLY happy when she's all dried off, she runs all around the house it's hilarious!!

This is the correct answer. Don't get a dog because it was a fckin internet meme. Shiba Inu are a difficult breed to handle. They need a ton of attention, they're high energy, they're very destructive and incredibly loud. Unless you have a good amount of experience and the right home environment for them, they will not work out well for you. I'm not sure if it's specific to the breed or just the temperament of the one we had but she was very aggressive to other dogs. We eventually had to rehome her with a family member after she repeatedly attacked our other dogs, latching onto their ears and drawing blood on more than one occasion. She's doing much better now in a single dog household, but we made a mistake in getting one.

it was your dog i got a Shiba because i had to move into my Families Guest house which is partitioned from the main house its smaller than most houses but its still pretty big and has a small backyard that coupled with Shiba's being bred for hot and cold conditions made one ideal for Australia Shiba's are super easy to train but only have a short couple month window in which to train them after that you can't train them most new owners don't know this during that time you need to Expose them to baths let as many strangers meet them as possible expose them to dogs teach them commands teach them not to bark just expose them to as many things possible you also need to borderline beat the dog during this period because it NEEDS to know it is not in charge im with the Army so i go away for long periods and my family have no issues with my dog she just gets depressed a little lethargic when im away one trait of the breed however is that they are protective of things so you are correct they don't normally like being with other dogs because their basket is their basket their toys are their toys they really only let their owner go near their things anyone or thing else will get barked at or bitten so you need to put their stuff away if they aren't using them

Certain dogs have a natural oil in their coats that keeps there fur clean. Shibas don't need to be bathed. Different dogs have different types of fur. Shibas have fur like cats which is why they hate water!

She doesn't want the slightest drop of water on her. Hates rain, and when she sees us drinking water out of a glass she runs away. I've raised the Shiba Inu for 19 years and never used soap on their skin. They have an oil system that works well at keeping them clean and smell free. When you strip these natural oils you must bathe them regularly. We host events at our home regularly and our dogs have no smell. If they get dirty I spray them off with a hose a bit and dry them with a towel. I love the way my shibas' coats smell but not always their breath.

Just had this experience yesterday. Our shiba screams like a maniac even when we're not dipping her in water - just putting warm / lukewarm water on her back and talking gently! I'm kinda de-sensitized to it now, but I imagine if someone new heard her screaming they'd think she was being murdered!

Awwwww - can't you give her a steady stream of treats to make her look forward to bath time? One of you is bathing her and the other is giving her her favourite treats at small but increasing intervals. Soon she'd get to thinking bath time is pretty good!

All I can suggest is higher value treats and bathing before he has eaten so he is hungry. My trainer says you have to keep trying different treats until you find the one that they will do anything for. With some dogs it is playing with a favourite toy that motivates rather than food. I tried everything to train my girl to ramp walk for weeks and in the end she did it within 5 minutes for the right treat (barbecue chicken breast) 😊 Good Luck!

My dog is the same, got our bathroom window next to a road and after struggling with him for 30 min or so, some people was standing outside listening wondering wtf is going on.... And he´s 8 years old, not some puppy that has not taken a bath before... They try everything in their power to avoid it, from sounding to tryign to scare you to doing all they can to make you feel pity for them and let them go... But such adorable creatures (Shiba´s), cant immagine a life without one...

I have never read so many stupid comments on one video before. You should not bathe your dog often, twice a year It's sufficient giving the circumstances and your climate. But to never bath your dog is just stupid. Grooming your dog is absolutely necessary. How else are your going to check for cuts and infections? If you completely ignore bathing because your dog acts like this one when he\she actually has a cut and it gets infected you will be in big trouble. Brushing is also also a good way to inspect skin but like me I have been brushing and went over a cut and caused my dog great discomfort by tearing it open with the brush. THIS IS NOT ANIMAL ABUSE. They are laughing because its funny. Lighten up people at one point hes comforting the dog who will be just fine after his bath. And if you think it is well then good luck being a liberal in this world. I'm sure obama will come to your rescue when you need him:)

To end all the talks of abuse... I am a groomer and know for a fact that dogs only need to be bathed every 6 to 8 weeks. Yes, it's a necessity to bathe every 6 to 8 weeks because the oils on the skin can build up too much and cause a bacterial infection. Too much bathing before the 6 to 8 weeks comes can cause skin issue such as dry skin and/or raw skin. However, if the dog needs to be bathed due to getting dirty at the dog park, rolling in something smelly, etc., you can bathe them sooner but using a gentle shampoo. Leaving the shampoo soak on the skin is good for the dogs skin and can soothe any booboos or just soothe the skin in general. Especially if you are using oatmeal shampoo or medicated. So for everyone that says this is abuse, it is not. Its them being responsible pet parents. Who ever told you its not okay to bathe your dog more than twice a year is super dumb and i hope you don't follow that advice, ask a vet next time..

My sister has a Shiba Inu and he only ever shrieks when he wants something. He will literally shriek at you if you don't give him that piece of pizza in your hand. He sounds like a pissed banshee. Yet he's fine when he gets a bath or has his nails trimmed. He is the most posh and uptight little thing I've ever seen.

My Shiba only screamed when she was younger, like a couple months old and was upset/frustrated. But it was only with serious stuff like shots or she couldn't reach a ball. Things like taking a bath or water in general should be covered early on with any dog so they don't freak.

Shiba Inu's coats tend to look clean but they should be washed at least once a week or once every two weeks anyways to keep dirt from building up on the lower layers. It also helps with the shedding - similiar to a husky.

i have a shiba and he does this some times. they are such stout dogs for their size. when they want out of something you can really get a feel of how strong they really are. it's surprising sometimes.
