For a PvE Corvette, I would recommend: - Bi-Weave shield with Reinforced / Low draw - All but three shield boosters A / Heavy Duty / Flow Control - The three shield boosters A / Thermal Resistance / Flow Control This will enable a much more versatile build that will run cool and nimble. You can now stack Guardian Shield Reinforcement to get a 5000 shield that will charge fast while in combat. The optimal build is where you can run with 2 / 2 / 2 pips without the need for SCB (I've never used them in PvE). Numbers are always different on paper and then actually going out there and doing it, try different setups to what works for you. : ) For PvP you would go for Prismatic build.

Good call with the Bi-weave! I tried this on my Anaconda instead of the (experimental) A rated s-generator. With the A rated one the shields went down sometimes when I jumped from fight to fight in the haz-RES. But with the Bi weave it never went down. Im not sure about the guardian shield reinforcement tho, cause it slows down the regen rate of bi weaves quite considerably without providing as much flat shield power as boosters would. But I will try it with a single guardian one. The more guardian shield reinforcements are used with bi weaves, the less useful the bi weave itself becomes apparently. They r best with prismatic or A-rated generators usually.

Really good analysis of shield performance from all you guys so big thanks, here's some other aspects to consider, 1. The type of incoming fire and it's hit probability, laser and rail guns high MC's medium, cannons + PA low for example. 2. The size and speed/agility of the user's ship, a faster medium ship will take less hit's than a large one. 3. The type and intensity of the combat i.e. RES, CZ, Pirate threat......... Personally on my Vette builds I favour bi-weave shields (thermal+fast charge) and generally 4 booster with resistance biased towards thermal as most incoming fire with a high hit probability will be laser/thermal based (BTW I don't use SCB's) I reckon if you go down the bi-weave + resistance route keeping the overall shield strength around 1200 - 1400 MJ on a class 7 bi-weave makes the most of the faster regen rate, much higher I believe pushes you into reinforced + SCB's territory.

It’ll be cool to figure out what the best jump range of different ships would be using the same program used for the shields, using the mass of the ships to figure out what the best/max jump range would be, if that’s at all possible which could be kinda cool too see 😁😁

@masterpeace_off5 жыл бұрын
You do not take into account the duration of the battle. If we conduct a long battle without the possibility of arriving at the station, there will be nothing to replenish the shield cell bank. The shield cell bank is Plan B, not the primary defense system. I think this new build will be relevant for 1 on 1 PVP but not for PVE. Bi-wave from the last video is more suitable for me for PVE in the asteroid belt, for example. (It's about last build with prismatic shield)

Prismatics and scbs mean you have to hit a station to restock. For that reason alone I would never consider it over biweaves for pve.

So bottom line we discovered Shield Cell Banks are in deed effective. I think the main problem is not surviving, it's rotation around like an idiot chasing much smaller much faster targets. If I use a corvet I realized I would rudder just spin around in the same spot.... yea that's combat with big ships for you and also always have fixed lazers since ammo and chafs are a problem. P.S. Corvet with only Fixed Beam Lazers is where I am right now :) Sure sure they are not efficient against hull how cares they need no ammo and you are just rotating around and holding a button down.

Why does it drop the Thermal resistances so much? It always seems to low ball the thermal resists. Obviously i know the maths behind it doesn't lie, but it doesn't make sense. If i put 0 explosive, 50 thermal and 50 kinetic and 10 absolute (65% time being damaged) in my FDL build, i am left with almost 70% resists on explosive which is WAY higher then you would need, and 63% kinetic which is fine, and then 29% thermal. I'm sure i get hit with thermal way more than explosives?

How do I get prismatic shields? Are they a powerplay thing?
@paranoidrodent5 жыл бұрын
Yes, they are from Powerplay. Pledge to Aisling Duval (blue haired Imperial). Wait 3+ weeks. Consider mining up lots of cash during this time. You will need it. After 3 weeks, travel to her capital system of Cubeo in a cargo ship that you are comfortable dealing with NPC interdictions in (e.g. Python, Cutter, Clipper, Krait Mk2, etc). Dock, visit the power play contact. Load up on her reinforcement cargo, 10 units at a time, paying the penalty fee to skip the cooldowns (budget a few million for this total). Look Aisling up in the powerplay interface, find one of her nearby worlds that needs reinforcement and go deliver your cargo to a station in that system. Rinse and repeat until you have delivered at least 750 units of reinforcement cargo. Fly your ship home. Wait until you have been pledged to her for 4 weeks AND the next Thursday server reset happens. You will now have power play rank 3 with Aisling. Go buy yourself a stock of prismatic shields in whatever size you like at any outfitting station that sells A-rated shields. I recommend Jameson Memorial or a Li Yong Rui controlled station to get the price discount. Bring lots of cash as these are not cheap components, especially the biggest sizes. I personally suggest (and this is just my opinion) picking up 3 each of the size 3, 4, 5 and 6 shields, 1 or 2 size 7 and maybe a size 8 (honestly, only the cutter or T10 can reasonably fit it, it costs a quarter billion and it is a complete power hog so plan on power efficient weapons - the number of an 8 prismatic on a cutter are bonkers though). That selection should cover you fairly well. I don't see much point in the size 1 and size 2 shields as any tiny ship you might use those on will be too power starved to afford the juice to run them. Maybe the size 2 might have a use on something. The size 3 and 4 are lovely on non-combat ships that have power to spare.
@BradCorcoran5 жыл бұрын
@@paranoidrodent are we stocking up due to convenience, or can they never be purchased again once you finish your pledge?
@paranoidrodent5 жыл бұрын
@@BradCorcoran Convenience. Your powerplay score with a faction degrades by 50% each week so at the next server reset, you will drop down to rank 2 with Aisling and lose your ability to purchase the shields without further grinding. Most players who are not seriously into the powerplay aspect of the game and just want the modules will do the 3 week wait, grind up to rank 3, wait a week and buy, then leave the faction, wait the cooldown and pledge to a new faction for their unique module. In practical terms, you stock up to avoid repeating the month long wait. I suppose if the only power play faction you like is the prismatics, you could just keep doing 400 units of reinforcement each week to top up your rating. The powerplay weekly pay amount would cover a portion of the cost after the first week at rank 3 but it would be annoying to do unless you are based nearby. Personally, I think the prismatics and to a lesser degree the pack-hounds (Li Yong Rui) are both worth getting. If you are a good shot with fixed weapons, perhaps a few of the others like the Imperial Hammers and Advanced Plasma are worth checking out. A few folks seem to like the Mining Lance for the range but their efficiency is awful.
@damienmcfarland72675 жыл бұрын
@paranoidrodent, Thanks very much for your comprehensive answer, that has helped me a lot. I have another question though. When I complete the above grind and buy my shiny new prismatics, do I get to keep them indefinitely? In other words, do I lose them if I stop playing powerplay? Also, is there any other power play modules that are worth having?. Take care matey.
@paranoidrodent5 жыл бұрын
@@damienmcfarland7267 Once purchased, prismatics (and all other powerplay modules) are yours to keep. The pack-hound missile launchers from Li Yong Rui are rather nifty (especially if you engineer them for extra ammo). They fire salvos of multiple smaller seeker missiles, making them better at defeating point defenses. If you have a bunch of them, you get an anime-style swirling cloud of missiles hunting your target The Imperial Hammers and Advanced Plasma Accelerators are nice if you already like railguns and PAs. The rest seem to be less popular (enforcers and pacifiers have their fans I think).

There's no setting for that yet - it's all hardcoded to an Anaconda. You could fill in your own shield generator CSV with the ship you were interested in. I guess I'll do this and see if it makes a difference to results. If so I'll generalise it and add to my web version.

The thing is your dealing with percentages and they are always a drama in that it creates imbalance on either end by way of large shields with a big base number get more for say heavy duty booster percentages than a small shield with low base value eg 50% of 10 = 5 but 50% of 100 = 50. aswell as that so many people ruin their ships with bad engineering because they don't cross check everything else that changes when you change one thing, it all needs to synergise! Prismatics might seem like you can't go wrong but dependimg on your current mass with modules that prismatic ( being heavy ) might put you over by a factor big enough that you'd have more shield strength with a standard 7A over the them.

Am i the only one who can do that without any need for such calculations to build effective shields? Or is it so hard for everyone else? It's not as complicated as you think. To build shields you only need to consider few things - enemy that you will combat most of the time, their weapons, time that you will be under fire, number of SB you can use, distance, gameplay scenario. That's about it. Nothing else will affect it. In fact there is even mistake in calculations, because they only considering the raw damage, but no falloff damage. You don't build shields in calculator because numbers are good, you need to consider your gameplay, the sutiations and scenarios you will run into. If you are playing in Open, you need to also consider PAs as weapon that you will likely encounter. I am not even mentioning chafs which can be more effective than 1 more SB in most scenarios but you simply can't calculate it to understand it.
