is it possible to shield static magnetic fields? and if so would they require similar materials to the low frequency magnetic fields or would ferrous material be good ?

Static and low-frequency magnetic fields are similar. A material with high magnetic permeability can be used to shield such a magnetic field.

What would be the best shielding to protect circuitry in close proximity to a high voltage Tesla coil? Copper or Aluminum?

very nice , I had issue form 50Hz to 1Khz which came from bridge rectifier , using Mu metal cost a lot , but I used galvanize metal sheet. quit effective around 20dB decreasing leakage on my neighboring circuits.
