I just replaced the front trim on my 2003 530. Take your time cleaning the area after the old strip is removed. I vacuumed the crumbs then scrubbed the channels with a soapy brush then used a towel to wipe the edge of the glass all around to remove excess glue. I soaped up the channels with a paint brush and the new strip went in with pressure and a trim tool to seat it. (Be careful not to crack the windshield with pressure). I will order the back trim now that I know I can do it. Thanks for the inspiration.

Great video and super helpful! Thanks! Love the music too! You weren't kidding though about removing the old trim if the windshield had been replaced. Worse was getting out all the sealant in the groove to get the new trim to seat properly. Took forever but got it done and it looks great. Now to do my back window. Should be easier though as it is the original window. 21 years later I still love my 2000 E39 Sport and plan on keeping it forever. So please keep your great videos coming!

This helps quite a bit in preparation for doing this again. I did it before of MY 2003 M5 which looks remarkable like yours. Although I'm sure yours is is much better shape than mine. But I love the platform so much, that while my M5 sits in storage in Boise, I bought another 2003 530i 5 speed, to tour around on the West Coast, specifically the Central Oregon Coastline. And Boy-Howdee, with the rain and the sea salt in everything, I need good seals around the windows. Thanks for the video. Wish you wouldn't have run out of light, but I DID love the audio...quite a lot, as a matter of fact !!

Great video I bought the trim for my M5 and held off doing it because I was scared to crack the windshield thinking the glass had to be removed. Thank you for making this video very helpful.

The drivers side on mine had so much excess sealant from the window it literally took hours for me to get it off. I used a knife to cut excess sealant away and then just patiently worked away at it. I did damage the paint under the trim pretty badly, if u do make sure u put anti rust stuff on it 👌🏽 Another thing u could do is just smash ur window and pay £70 for insurance to change it, i considered it halfway through because of how stuck it was😂

Awesome video. Good thing I watched your video before ordering the parts. I just changed my gasket, AND the trim pieces at the base of the windshield as you pointed out 2:00. Fortunately it is an original windshield so the gasket fit perfectly! Many thanks again and a shout to @michaelessa and @fcpeuro!

Great video. I'm now able to do this job on my e39 as it's easier than it looks on the car.

I've spent a few hours trying to install my new trim to no avail. Massaged it every which way, lubricated with much more soap than necessary. I'm wondering is there's leftover rubber in some areas, my old trim was so neglected it was just the metal strips in some areas. Seeing a windshield guy soon who can hopefully help.

You can take a straight edge razor blade and GENTLEY use the blade to scrap off that line from the windscreen. I can skip the removal step as my E39 windscreen does not have weather stripping, I purchased my baby brand spanking new with only 4 miles, But I couldn't even tell you when it has gone missing, I just don't know. I just noticed it yesterday while detailing my Bimmer. So, yeppers, I ordered (all parts I replace are BMW brand or the very same brand used at the Bimmer plant) weather stripping.

How long did it last before they flew off into the wind? Yes. That windshield was done before. The installer reused it being he didn't have one. A for effort though. Next time use primerless urethane being it was a push in molding.
@ShiftedPerspective4 жыл бұрын
It never flew off. I replaced it the same way the stock moulding was.

This trim is not meant to be replaced, you should always replace the windshield and directly apply the trim to the new glass. This method has a risk of rust in humid/winter enviroment.

I did my best to follow your instructions - however I'm having an issue with the gasket not fully bedding/seating in the center of the windshield, it is the OEM windshield and the track is clean but for whatever reason the center will not seat properly, anyone else have this experience?

Yes any bending of the trim immediately raises weird bumps and wavy lines lines to the trim. I screwed up my top and sides on rear AND front....FML looks like I'll be buying a second set. Also do not buy URÖ trim. Absolute trash
