A great thing about Kano Martial Arts is working with the different coaches and learning from their different coaching styles.

I am a US Army Special Forces Sergeants Major (ret), Brad is my son. I am a Shodan, used to compete back in the day and introduced Brad to Judo. I realized quickly that he had talent and LOVED the sport. He started at the Fayetteville/Ft Bragg Judo League under Sensei Hanson, whom I knew back in my days at Augustana College, Rock Island, IL where I was wrestling at the DIII level, and took up Judo. When I retired I moved back to Illinois to work for the folks and started Brad at Tohkon Judo Academy, then made the big leap to Cohen's Judo and that was huge. The late great Irwin, Steve, and of course Aaron and RJ turned him into a BEAST!! He went on to win 9 Junior Judo titles and we are forever a part of the Cohen Judo family. When he became a senior player I sent him to Glenville to train under Jason Morris and Brad developed a really good Uchimata, Tai Otoshi. He had his first major win at the 2010 Pan Am Championships, -66kg. He no longer competes internationally but he teaches both Judo and Jui Jitsu in the Charleston, SC area, recently won the Carolina Combat League BJJ Lightweight Super Fight over a guy from Gracie Savannah. Anyone here in the US that fights Brad KNOWS what's coming when they hit the mat...and he still gets his "Bolen Arrow" choke!! The position he puts his opponent creates a LOT of torque with the arm/lapel. In the Pan Am Championship one year he caught the guy from El Salvador, tried to fight it, tapped....stood up and then passed out!
