Chef Bjorn Shen ( / bjornshen ) - Today I got to hang out with the amazing Chef Bjorn Shen in Singapore from Artichoke and Small’s. He’s an extremely talented Chef, he loves to eat, and he enjoyed eating healthy - sometimes vegan food. Today we’re going to one of his favorite Indian vegetarian restaurants in Singapore, to especially eat their mushroom (mock mutton) biryani!
Gokul - Raas Vegetarian Restaurant (goo.gl/maps/Ro...) - Welcome to Little India in Singapore and we’re going to Gokul, where they specialize in vegan Indian food and a selection of Jain dishes on their menu as well. When I think about Indian vegetarian food, I don’t normally think about mock meats, mainly I think about daal, okra, bitter gourd, and other veggies. But Gokul does well including mock meats in their menu, but keeps the taste delicious.
The main dish we came to eat, and one of Bjorn’s favorites is the mock mutton - actually Shiitake Mushroom biryani. It was truly delicious, loaded with flavor - overcompensated with flavor. Highlight recommended, delicious food in Singapore.

We just had dinner there... One of our favourite places. We love their vegetarian version of Singaporean dishes as much as their Indian cuisine... Love their Nonya Laksa, Char Kway Teow, Hokkien Mee, of course their Briyani, Roti Jala and many more..... Our non vegetarian family and friends love the food there too.

You should try my favorite Indian dish, Mark. It's called Shahi Paneer(and I saw it ). I tell you, in India I could be a vegetarian no problem. They are the true masters of "veg only" food and the best in the world at combining spices. Edit: Try the real Shahi Paneer, you will remember that dish for the rest of your life.

It is true what the Singaporean guy said about being vegetarian. I am different vegetarian than others. I am Bhog/Bhoj vegetarian who does not eat eggs nor root vegetables. I have become vegetarian since 2010 due my Spiritual Awakening. Ever since then I am healthy ever before! Being pure vegetarian body changes into Divine Beauty and looking very youthful and young. I advise to all meat eaters, start becoming vegetarian which has nothing to do to find balance between meat and vegetarian. Either you are vegetarian or meat eater. There is nothing in between nor balance!

Personally, I feel that vegetarian restaurants shouldn't try to replicate meat dishes... Instead they should celebrate vegetable dishes and all the wonderful pulses and roots that satisfy that protein hit 🙂✌

I’m lacto vegetarian by birth. I do not know what meat tastes like. I don’t eat mushrooms. So how comparable is a ‘meaty portobello mushroom’. Burger compare to meat?

I love the but where chef talks about being a "flexitarian" as I am too! I just feel better when I don't eat so much meat, although I still do sometimes. Food is a bonding experience for me with deep cultural ties so I don't know if I could ever full stop eating meat. it's cool that you guys talked about finding that personal balance, because it is true that what makes one feel good may not be right for another person.
