Very important video. When you hurt yourself seriously, it never really heals, even 1year after. I even didn't hurt my hand with some Chopin or Liszt, but with a Scarlatti sonata with some big strechs. I have small hands. Now I have to avoid pieces with too much large chords and strechs. I did too much for a time, not enough breaks/rest, and now it's not like it used to be for me. Even after a ton of physiologist sessions, my hand still hurts even if I'm very careful.

Thankyou! I always disregarded injury prevention until it happened to me

relaxation is so hard... in pieces like Schubert's impromptus (eg no2 in Eb), I always feel like I have to keep going and I just keep accumulating tension. I think it's a common problem and the advice is usually "relax after each triplet/bar"... however, I feel like this causes the phrasing to break up. how should one practice relaxation while maintaining phrasing, especially for very long phrases?

Just a stupid answer : I you play as much as relaxed as you can but you still feel too much tension, play the piece slower. It's not worth it, I've been there.

Thank you, Shijun, for these inspiring ideas. May I ask which microphone you are using?

I use blue yeti. It connects with USB cable and is probably the best option for a microphone under 200 dollars.
