But fans of it quickly altered it (either to play with the concept, to add more layers of drama to their work, or out is misunderstanding the intent) and it rapidly morphed into the disease that results from unrequited (or perceived to be unrequited, usually, which is an echo of the original intent) love.

I just love how the even the flowers mentioned connect with the story Golden daffodils symbolize hope and joy as well as a new beginning, as in to say that the protagonist was very happy in the relationship and was hoping that the whole hanahaki thing was merely a misunderstanding or something else entirely Wysterias symbolize romance, which means the other person also loved the mc , but just simply doesn't anymore Chrysanthemums depending on the color can symbolize deep passion, neglected love and loyalty I know that all of this can be easily understood through the rest of the lyrics, I'm just trying to point out the attention to details Ghost really is a genius when it comes to lyrics
