Shimano Baitrunner 12000D Stuck Lever: Fishing Reel Repair

Just another example of how salt and corrosion can cause problems for a reel. The metal parts on this Shimano Baitrunner 12000D were actually "stuck" to the non-plastic parts, both on the lever and inside on the post. See below for helpful equipment and supply links. The mini screwdriver sets I use spin freely in the palm of my hand, which I prefer for speed.

I, generally, use a ratcheting, interchangeable regular-sized screwdriver for the initial loosening of screws. Here's a link to the brand I use:

Get some additional, varying sizes Flathead and Phillips bits while you're at it.
The adjustable wrenches I use (instead of hex nut wrenches) are Husky, but these (with the red insert) work very well... 6-inch will be used the most:

If you prefer to use hex nut wrenches, I'd recommend angled/offset ones, like these:

That's usually the only one I'll remove... did both screws in preparation for the possibility of having to pull the shaft. Turns out I didn't need to pull it, so I could have left it in.

Hey, I am curious if the baitrunner lever being slightly loose would be a problem? Reel works fine its that the lever is looser than I remember.

Hey brother.... I'm not sure how "loose" is looser than you remember, but it's probably fine. You should take it in for service if you're having some concerns about the reel, though.....so someone with a little more experience than you doing it yourself could go through it to make sure all is okay.

I think the gears missed Aline on mine when I was trying to see why bail was so loose it feels bumpy when I turn it now

Make sure when you line up the arrows on the main gear with the arrows on oscillating gear. Otherwise, it will feel like quicksand at points in the oscillation.
