Shimano BFS Overview - Flats Class

Great video CA. I have several Curado DC 150s bcs of you and just added a 200. I wanted a bait caster for those lighter setups and ended up getting a Curado BFS and paired it with a 7' Lews Inshore Speed Stick, ML, Moderate Fast action and 10lb braid with 20lb Flouro leader. Has been awesome! First fish was a 27" redfish on a 1/6oz Texas Eye finesse and the 3" ZMAN paddle tail in smelt.

I have the SLX BFS with a St Croix L 6'8" mojo. So much fun. I've caught big fish on the Flats. Big jacks, Trout, Reds, snooks. I love that Drag Sound. It should be on all Baitcasters

Early 90's we were using Ambassadeur 1500C's on Loomis Kokonee rods. 2lb. mono to throw 1\8th oz. Pins Minnows at baby tarpon and landlocked Snook in Cape Haze ponds. What a blast it was....

@@aaronhiggs just the 2 phenolic brake pucks that were standard on the old Ambassadeurs. The 1500/2500C's were long time distance casting record holders. Soupped up of course. Now they are so rare and valuable I don't put them into saltwater use. They go for near a grand in new old stock condition. Went to Daiwa Sol and Pixy for a decade but sold them.

Have a couple BFS reels, for the money Curado is tops. 8lb Suffix and a Zman baby goat on an 1/16 eyestrike Tx or the little Duo 50 spearhead. Still haven’t found the perfect rod…… stay at 4grams and the Curado is a happy camper. Glad you are calling more attention to this. Great wintertime and creek techniques.

Just got two pro max ambassadors size 1600 from the mid 90s both in perfect condition on light Rods ,can cast pretty much anything I want and have caught many 30 plus inch reds great fun

I would probably spend a little more and opt for the Alberadan. It's almost 2oz lighter which makes a difference when throwing super light baits. If you have the extra cash that is.

Been using a Shimano Aldebaran MGL 30 spooled with 8lb power pro and paired with a ML St Croix Mojo Inshore for trout and smaller redfish. Perfect for throwing 1/8 oz jig heads on tiny paddle tails. Saltwater BFS is next level fun.

How’s the MGL holding up on the salt? I was worried about it’s durability, so I went slx dc bfs.

@@aaronhiggs no problems so far. It's supposed to be rated for saltwater use, however there are BBs in the handle knobs, so without proper maintenance those would be the first to give out to the salt I imagine. Other than that I love it!

@@philjones3981 that’s what I was worried about with the handle bearings; but , to be honest, those cost maybe 20 bucks to replace if need be. Thanks for the feedback.

50 yards is not a lot of line if you hook a big fish.... doesn't leave much after a long cast

I owned the slx bfs, scorpion bfs, aldebaran bfs and best of all Calcutta Conquest bfs they are pretty awesome. there’s a spool from Avail super shallow roughly 1.5mm deep that allow you to cast 1/16-1/64oz or 0.6-2g with a ultra light casting rod using 2lbs line for the Slx bfs and curado bfs reel

Hey CA! Use your shimano contacts to bring back the Calcutta 50 series. Best reels ever. PERIOD. Luckily I have four I have been using for over twenty plus years

I like my new 70mgl Curado. Can do anything the BFS can and can get more line on the spool for those surging Snook and Reds. Both great reels but I’ll take the 70 size for the extra insurance of more line.

It can not do bfs. It can do finesse. It is also likely a dying reel. The curado 150 mgl can do everything the 70 can do better and then some.

I can bomb a weightless fluke 40yards with ease on the 70mgl. The new 70 just came out last year. It’s not dying. And the new 150 is not the 70. Hence why the 70 mgl is $30 more and has an xtra SA-RB

@@jasoncalvert9824 ypur curado throws 1/32 and 1/16 oz TOTAL weight lures? If it does, let Shimano know so they can figure why yours is different than all others they made. The 150 mgl can throw the exact same weight lures the 70 can. The 150 mgl has the same weight spool as the 70 mgl. The 150 mgl is a lighter reel overall. The 150 mgl is 2 years newer. The 150 mgl does all that while holding more line and costing $30 less The SLX 70 mgl will take the place of the curado 70 mgl. There is zero reason Shimano should continue making a less capable reel for more money than the 150mgl. You will be left with the SLX 70mglnif thats the size you want.

BFS is originate from Japan since 2009, and main stream America market barely catch on in the last two years, the idea came up from Daiwa not Shimano from what I read and know about it
