ive had a shimano sidestab 4000 for over 30 years best reel ive ever owned it also has the quickfire trigger. Was looking around on ebay and i found one probably just as old but unused still in the box for US$40! it cost me a bit to have it sent to New Zealand but i didnt care im 50 and i know these reels will see me out and i can probably hand them down!

I have an ax2000 I bought in 1982. Same as this but smaller. Never gave me any trouble. My only spinning reel. I cought thousands of fish including Salmon up to 15 Lbs. Large fish stress this reel, but it is still like new. Buy this one, you won't regret it.

Been using one of these for about 10 years now and it's still going strong. Only problem I've had is that the trigger doesn't always open the bail all the way. No big deal. Bout to get a 1000 or 2000 to use for crappie and bluegill and use my 4000 for cats.

I have been fishing with one of these for over 20 years. Finally broke to original shimano pole and have had it on an ugly stick for close to 8 years now. Hands down my favorite cheaper reel

I own two 2000s from bass fishing and just ordered a 4000 to use inshore. I love this reel. I personally HATE mono so I use braid exclusively and am 99% sure that the majority of wind-knots are simply caused by over-spooling.

I've been looking at this reel. Wanted something to go walleye and pike fishing with. Going to try slip bobber fishing and need something robust enough to haul fish out of deeper water. I also like the quick fire and rear drag idea since I have one hand on the tiller of the outboard most of the time. Thanks for the review.

Very good review. Quite glad you showed a comparison of model sizes. Really want a rear drag spinning reel for mild size shark and bat ray fishing. Hope Shimano creates a larger model in the future. Interesting tid-bit about you mentioned about leaders, I had it all wrong - no wonder I was losing so much line with rocky shoreline snags :)

@hondarider9494 Thanks for your comment. Gold Stren would look good on it. I don't use braided lined much either. Thanks for your thoughts.

Just bought 3 of the 4000's from Scheels for 9.99 a piece. These will go with the other 4000 and 2000 and 1000 I already own. Use all but the 1000 for catfishing. The 1000 is my trout reel. All together when the new ones arrive I will have 6 very good old school Shimanos for around 50 bucks

Love these reels and have many, use em almost exclusively. Some replace annually due to failure and some last a couple years max. Used to be made in Japan and higher quality. Now made in China.

I bought five of these from Farm and Fleet (on sale). All five have a bad drag. The drag can not be tightened up enough to reel in a fish. Unfortunately I didn't open them and spool them right away. Farm and Fleet will not take them back after 30 days. Make sure everything works soon after delivery or your money could be waisted.

I have the 2000R. Great reel. Looks amazing with gold Stren monofilament line. I HATE braided fishing line with a passion- Its impossible to untangle and when Im reeling a lure cast after cast the line rubs on my rod's eyes and it gets so freaking annoying!

Is it ok to close the bail by reeling? Will that cause any damage? I noticed it has a trigger.
@xxjusxstarxx5 жыл бұрын
No it won't cause damage, it technically could wear down the part that flips bail back on it's own, but I've never had it happen, but it will cause line twist

How they are this cheap I have no idea , I have 1 fished in salt and freshwater with no function problems, it flooded in my house during Katrina and in 2016 the great Louisiana flood my house again even worse and after submerged in nasty water for over 4 days during Katrina and over a week in the great flood ,I cleaned and oiled the kinks and was able to catch a 70lb stingray in Panama city beach with no problem several months later , that should show you how reliable they are , i have $150 to $200 quantum reels that crapped out before my 20 dollar shimano, I recommend the shimano ix4000 to all fishing enthusiasts.
