You may but it is uncertain, sometimes the bike chain stay wont support for further upgrade like acera is a 9 speed derailleur which means gear sprockets will be more which will increase the width of the cassette. Moreover you need to change the wheel hub also.

Ab bhai sawal ye hai ki was thinking to buy Polygon Cascade2 or 3. Unfortunately Cascade2 has rear derailleur SHIMANO RD-TY200 6/7-SPEED DA and Cascade3 has SHIMANO RD-TY300 6/7-SPEED DA. I’m using montra’s downtown. First bike. Got sentimentally attached to it and don’t feel like changing it. As u’ve mentioned in the video Shimano tourney is not great. Is it worth upgrading the gearing system in a entry level hybrid bike? Is yes, being a hybrid, the upgrade should be on mtb side like Altus/Acera or on the road side like Claris/Sora? Hybrid bikes are combination of MTB and Road. MTB components are good for hybrid bikes. Buy altus or Acera 8 speed and you'll see the smooth butter like shifting performance.
