I went from yellow to blue a few years ago during a cycling holiday with lots of climbing. After three days one knee had taken damage which took months to recover from. After getting back on the bike with yellow cleats I never had these issues again.

To me the float was killing me, going for blue cleats solved the problem entirely. I needed my knee to stay in place.

No, the problem is angular float. No pedal system is supposed to have lateral float.

Do the blue cleats solve this issue without the risk of zero movement in the red Shimano cleats?
@phoenixinthetrees14462 ай бұрын
Then adjust your cleat to stop it. I get this, particularly on my SPD cleats on my mountain bike; I can feel my foot slide. Moving the cleat removes the problem.
@ERIK31351 Жыл бұрын
Didn't actually mention any flaws, you just displayed the float that is specifically desired when buying that cleat...
@veganpotterthevegan Жыл бұрын
The float is measured by the angle you can rotate your feet. Not how far right or left your shoe can move on the pedal. I always fit people off of where the tension of the pedal stops the foot if they're using a pedal that does this.
@gavinmercak-dinolfo1375 Жыл бұрын
The flaw is that your q factor can change one pedal to the other
@danielashleybaker Жыл бұрын
angular float is the design. The lateral float is the flaw.
@adccars359 Жыл бұрын
That indeed is a major flaw. I think i may have been a victim to that issue. Switching to speedplays help alot. I do miss the feel of dura ace pedals under my feet.
@veganpotterthevegan Жыл бұрын
@adccars359 I'm a huge Speedplay fan, personally and as a fitter. But Looks may be an ideal pedal for you if you miss that platform. I consider the cleat the platform for Speedplay and it's a sizeable one. But if you don't prefer it, try something else. We spend too much time pedaling circles to not like how they feel

I’ve never been a fan of pedal/cleat float on the road. Red Shimano cleats give the best feeling of being locked in and engaged with the pedals. I think the injury risk of zero float is highly over exaggerated by people who’ve never actually tried zero float and see how their body handles it.

New to clipless here, why is float desired or least desired? What are pros and cons for both float and no float?
@systemicchaos3921 Жыл бұрын
The thinking is that your foot cn naturally move through its best range of motion when there is float. For no float you get more lock down and morepower but you have to have your cleats setup perfectly for you to avoid injury. Some people need some float to avoid injury

@ev-ezaye3580 Жыл бұрын
@@colincanyon2519No! That's absurd advice.... one needs a bike fit to try out the varied floats... Next best thing is to start with the middle ground (with Shimano it's 2°, Look 4½°) then go up or down from there, depending on your bodies needs!

@@ev-ezaye3580 Of all customers I've served who started off clipless with SPD-SL, they use the yellow cleats that came with their pedals (except Dura-Ace). For me, I started with Look Keo, so I started off with grey cleats. Overtime, I felt 4.5° of float is a little too much for me, so when I switched to SPD-SL (this is what I wanted all this while), I'm now on blue cleats.
