So it's 'just as good' as Dura Ace with a throw away power meter / can't change chainrings. Once Shimano gets rid of wires, SRAM is in trouble.

Newsflash people - rim brakes are disc brakes! In principle, rim brakes are more effective than disc brakes because they benefit form the "long lever" principle (grab a spinning wheen two inches from the hub and then 15 inches from the hub and you'll feel this in action). What really limits braking force is not traction but the tendency of bicycles to pitch, caused by the catastrophically high centre of gravity of the traditional double triangle design. Put differently, when was the last time you locked your front wheel? Modern disc brakes are essentially a heavy servo system which, admittedly, is more effective in the wet and the mud. That's it.

I bought a disc road bike on a whim one day and instantly regretted it. I'm sure that 99% of these bikes are getting sold because of convenience and a warranty.

Having taken two years off from looking at bike gear (2 years doing zwift races) I came out of my basement and went in search of a nice steel frame with rim brakes....or maybe a titanium frame...I was shocked to find the carbon, disc brake, electronic shifting, tubeless tire takeover was complete. I'm glad Tom Ritchey still has the Road Logic...I was able to get a rim version in a size 55...which selling out everywhere. A steel frame, rim brake, mechanical shifting bike is a different experience. Sad to say it appears as dead as the manual transmission

@jonoharper4729Күн бұрын
Yes, the new hoods are fully backwards compatible to the previous generation 💯%. I am doing the same upgrade, my local SRAM rep has confirmed, and many YT videos confirm the same. Backward compatibility is one huge SRAM advantage that is seldom mentioned. The separate individual parts of the group set will be in stores by August apparently, depending on your region.

After watching many bike fitting videos, I'm curious about the potential limitations of bike fitting. While some similarities to pseudosciences such as e.g. chiropractic or homeopathy exist (focusing on individual needs rather than standardized approaches), I recognize the need for more evidence before forming a strong opinion. Here are some specific concerns I have: Focus on accommodation vs. technique: Do some fitters prioritize mechanical adjustments over teaching proper riding technique to address body quirks? Subjectivity in evaluating fitters: Is there a clear way to distinguish between qualified and unqualified fitters? Universality of anatomy claims: Is the statement "everyone's anatomy is different" an oversimplification that might downplay the effectiveness of standardized fitting principles? I'd appreciate any resources on evidence-based critiques of bike fitting. As the public becomes more critical and science-minded, it will be interesting to see how bike fitting practices evolve to ensure their effectiveness.
@danielbliss1988Күн бұрын
Great video and one bike fitters in general are in denial about. Worth pointing out; there's a serious shortage of Q-factor options for the road for more than 56mm pedal center-to-crank. The Shimano/Look road pedal center-to-crank standard is basically 52mm with some 53; Garmin and Favero power meter pedals can be set at 53 or 55, you can gain an extra 2 to 3mm on each side with a Shimano GRX crank and front derailleur (which can be combined with a longer pedal), SPD MTB pedals are 53 or 55, and coming in at 56 for the win is the Mark Cavendish-demanded long-axle Shimano SPD-SL. Then it's a big, big jump to the 64 or 65 of a Favero pedal axle for Shimano. And then in the low 70s we have a standard road pedal plus an extender, concerning to me in view of the Amazon reviews that discuss them breaking. In any case I just don't like doing things that only have a single vendor, so the Favero duo-Shi is out, and I'll probably do a 56mm pedal and see if I also end up needing to go GRX on the crankset. I've managed OK with 52 Dura-Ace, but it's clear from the fit done by my physiotherapist that I need wider; this kind of hinted at about 58-59 as being ideal.
