Awesome reel! Those DC's are super nice. Can't wait to see it in action. I got a regular slx DC and it's by far my favorite reel for what I do. Great overview and comparison. And that's a sweet free bait. Anything megabass for free is a great thing.

The D C brake adds a lot of weight to the spool, reducing the reels versatility , and dramatically reduce its ability to throw light lures.

​@@markrigg6623I kinda agree. Don't know about " dramatically" in this case. it already casts 2 grams - imagine how great it could be if we could lighten the spool a bit more! I've chatted with a guy who is investigating that and a drag clicker.

I actually use my Calcutta conquest dc101 for light Saltwater game and my micro swimbait stuff. I run .8 Pe braid on a ML rod rated 3-18 grams. I love this combo. Great video

I have both the Curado BFS and SLX DC XT. The casting distance between these 2 are like night and day when casting 1/4 oz jig heads. Because the Curado BFS has so much lighter spool it can cast with very little effort and much farther compared to the SLX DC XT. I know the braking systems are very different but for me it feels like the SLX DC XT is almost over braking even on the lowest brake setting compared to Curado BFS. I also installed an after market drag clicker to the SLX DC XT and even though it has 0 effect on the casting distance, it makes using the reel so much more fun.

Nice - i couldn't find a suitable aftermarket drag clicker. If you don't mind, maybe share the link here for others to find? But, now with the introduction of a few CDM DC BFS reels, I think for BFS guys something like the PureLure Silver feather DC is a better option.

Got mine 2 weeks ago. Paired it with shimano majestic, CAN cast 3.6 grams (may be 4g wet feather) well enough and far enough. I'm using 6lb suffix fluoro. Spool gets some slight over-run going that light. Works prefect with 7 grams in my casting style.

Aliexpress has a rod handle protetctive case silicon ,or a butt saver you can press a piece of lead in to balance the rod.

What is the drive gear material of the new SHIMANO SLX DC XT?

Not sure. Not specified anywhere I can find. Most newer Shimano finesse reels are some sort of coated aluminum as I recall. Previous gens were brass. both pretty soft as far as metals go, but the micro- module gear seems to offset the wear and increase smoothness. But really it's not a question I ask when I'm deciding which reel to buy - I don't have the engineering experience of most companies...

Yes. micro ned, probably not. even with a 1/15 head, a traditional ned should be around 3/16 oz or 5 grams or so.

i just got this today , n spooled it with shimano grapple pe 1 line... 20lb... but the diameter is really thin... the boss wife spooled the entire 300meter into the spool... i prob gonna reduce some ... dont like them too max out......u think it possible tot still cast 5g? only have zodia 5pc rot ML atm haha.

I have no way of knowing. I max out at 9lb line and only put about 120 yards on it. But the next video coming out I cast down to 2 grams with this reel!

I have 21 scorpion dc not sure if slx dc is the same but don’t mess with spool tension. I was told they come set at the factory

Definitely came way too loose from the factory, you have to set the spool tension to be just tight enough so the spool has no side to side play for the dc system to be perfect. I’ve used the curado dc for years and it’s the same exact way.

I have thrown down to 6grams with my Antares DC with no problem, never tried anything lighter. I wish Shimano would just make a true DC BFS reel. I would definitely buy it.
