great video.. it's 2018, and even now, this is my only crankset option for my xc 1x10 machine. i wanted an 104mm BCD to use a 35 tooth narrow wide chainring that is only available in 104mm,. and none of the newest XT or XTR cranksets do the job.. found an old used M970, it's a bit heavier than the newest lineups, but seeing how shimano decided to screw it's customers over by introducing the stupid asymmetrical bolt circle in the M8000xt and M9000xtr (and no one makes a 35. or even 36T NON-oval ring for them). this was the only option. thank you for this video, it was very informative

I started using single chainring crankset two years ago and man do I miss the triple, especially XTR stuff that worked flawlessly. Sad thing is that these triples are now really hard to find.

I have these cranks and they are amazing. But my middle chainring ( 32 ) is finally starting to show significant wear. My question is any way to replace it without having to disassemble the cranks?
@Finn-pe7uj2 жыл бұрын
It's pretty simple to loosen the chainring bolts without touching the cranks, no?
@battistaverardi12402 жыл бұрын
@@Finn-pe7uj yes I can take off the bolts but the chain ring can’t get past the crank tabs that it is fastened to. I probably have to take the cranks apart to get at it or just cut it off. But in order for me to put another one on I’ll have to remove the arms unfortunately

I will have to assemble such a crankset soon. This video gave me valuable information. Thank you.

Can I put this crank on a year 2000 3x8 stump jumper?

Copper and aluminium put together result in galvanic corrosion for the aluminium, copper grease on the spindle - you should never use anti seize grease on moving parts, and using the ball end of the allen key to unlock the crank bolt is destroying the tool... :(

I noticed the anti seize too. We used to use it at the bike shop 25 years ago for titanium bolts we called it TiPrep antiseize. The silver for anything else but never as a grease. it was to ensure that the titanium did not fuse with steel or aluminum.

Does anyone know if these cranks are hollow inside? Need to know before starting to shorten them. Thanks in advance!
