When I weighed 500 lbs and used an electric wheelchair I read a magazine article about the benefits of belly dancing and I started doing figure 8s and shimmies and stuff while walking in the pool for physical therapy. Nowadays I am down to 250 lbs and can walk a mile around my neighborhood. I discovered your channel with excitement. So far I only last through the warmups but they are wonderful and I am DOING it! On dry land! It is exciting and I look forward to all of your classes as I become coordinated and strong enough to explore them. THANK YOU for making such an intense workout fun and feminine!!

I LOVE this. I tried the entire video sitting down as someone would in a wheelchair but still had control over their upper body. It's totally doable! Maybe some of the hip stuff is hard, but all you need is abs. Same goes for largely overweight folks or the elderly. As long as you can do some of it, it's a benefit. To those who say this isn't a workout ... I will beg to differ. Be lazy and try it while sitting. Then tell us that it's not a workout. I've followed a couple of your videos in the last few days because I was a dancer for much of my life so I can isolate. This workout kicked my core arse! I'm now 56, and have a sway back ... Just a couple of days worth of core work in belly dancing has resolved my low back pain 100%. I'm shocked! I expected that it would work but would take a couple of weeks ... but it only took a couple of days! You are a blessing to me personally! I love your videos, love the way they're done, and have followed them easily. Now, I'm an old dancer, so I can isolate, which makes this even MORE fun for me. I get to use what I know to benefit my own health 30 years post my dance expiration date. The best thing is that there's no age limit on Belly Dance like there is with other forms. No weight limit, no skill limit, and you can do it seated as long as it's just for fun and exercise. For exercise, this is NO JOKE. Belly Dance done correctly is as hard as any other form of dance ... except for Bollywood. I'm sorry, that one wins in the technicality of the hands (the hand position means something) and sheer alethic ability. One of the best ballet dancers in the world tore his achilles while doing Bollywood. If one of the best trained dancers in the US busted his achilles doing Bollywood, then it cements that the genre is no joke.

Bollywood is harder but not better, too high impact and no focus on the core...but I love it too! This is such a great way- as long as I am my own advocate(I heard you) with what my body can do, to move my body in a healthy way, without very high impact. I have that in other videos that are more intermediate to advanced. I like to keep the arms and hands basic for my beginners so they can focus on specific body movements first, then add arms. I also instruct my more advanced ladies to be careful with adding too much arm movement or busy hands as hey distract from your hip work and other movements you want to shine!

THANK YOU DEAR!! After being so entertained by watching these videos, I actually got up and did this today and wow! It doesn't look like it's hard but it's challenging. I could feel it targeting all of the areas that need work. I also feel as though this will help me with my lower back pain and stiffness. Question for you, what's that on your feet? I have some foot issues so I was wondering if I need those things for my feet as well.

Glad I got you moving and grooving. As for the feet…I wear half soles. They pad the balls of the feet for a smoother friction on the floor but allow your toes and heels to grip the floor which is necessary to prevent strain on the lower back.
