Man, the shot of Uncle Jerome's worn, weathered boots gets me every time. And then he picks up his rifle, and goes off to probably do a coup or otherwise make sure leadership can't stop Lena's takeover... revealing at long last the final layer of complexity to his bitter, jaded, character - hope and despair two sides of the same coin, indeed.

I just wanna say the direction of this show was done with so much care. Every shot looks so picturesque, and there was so much detail when watching the first time through that my puny brain got overwhelmed trying to catch everything. This episode made my heart sink, Shin went full autopilot almost as if he didn't care for his own survival. And Frederica witnessing someone close to her doing something similarly reckless for the second time ... someone give this poor girl a hug. Praying, PRAYING for a second season because I'm way too attached to these guys ;(

Hey just wanted to give some details about the reginleifs our squad uses -So for starters they upgraded the republic juggernauts from a 57mm to an 88mm smoothbore cannon, also has better shock absorbers, better Armour, a properly sealed cockpit, etc. They are also capable of firing many different types of ammunition. -Shin: 88mm smoothbore cannon, 2 high-frequency blades, and 57mm piledrivers equipped on each of the reginliefs legs -Raiden: exchanges main cannon for an auto cannon with rapid reload and heavy machine guns to support Shin since he's always in the thick of it with him -Kurena: true to her name of gunslinger she's an excellent shot so she exchanges her main gun for an extra long barreled 88mm cannon for long distance sniping, she also has a headset that displays things like wind speed and direction -Anju: exchanges main gun for a multi-rocket launch pad for area suppression to support the vanguard -Theo: no big upgrades but the most notable attribute are the grappling hooks since he's an expert at 3D maneuvers

The prevailing theory around jeromes actions, Is that he's going to stop anyone trying to stop Lena's actions, Hes wearing his combat boots and not his military parade/dress shoes, he has his weapon. Points to one action. Also I personally believe he only stopped Lena there to basically test her resolve one last time, if she gave up he wouldn't do anything, If shes still hellbent on fighting he'd support her. Hes very nhilistic and has given up personally on the republic, hence his "They'd be better off dead than saved by 86." But he still realizes the wrong doing. Just believes he himself can't change anything meaningful.

After the battle we see more about the gunfire that penetrated Shin's cockpit in the battle. It hit right where his mark's head would be (the skeleton is headless), also Rei managed to protect Shin, the left breast pocket (immediately outside where his heart is) where he keeps Rei's name plate was torn open by the bullet (both of these details at 9:25 in this video, 15:20ish in the episode). By all rights Shin should have died in that battle, but thankfully he has a good (now redeemed) big brother who looks out for him from beyond the grave. The margin by which Shinei Nouzen managed to escape death this day is waaayyyy too narrow.

those are the 3 nations currently in contact with each other. As for who is commanding the legion.... it will come up later but they are communicating over the wide area network of the legion. the episode isn't really in chronological order Federica has that power since she is a descendent of the royal family who had that specific power. Shins power will be explained later on. in fact he has........ her uncle as one of the last remaining properly trained soldiers from before the war goes off to fight the legion himself with the republic soldiers. Phenomenal episode. I love the character of General Karlstahl so much. He is just a person who has completely given up on trying to correct the system, or change the state of the republic despite being the most powerful person in the republic. But when his brother (Lena's father) who was a pure idealist, and powerful man, died, he just lost all hope. If such a man can't change anything, then no one can. He himself was probably not as idealistic as his brother, in that respect, he was the "Annette" of the two. - Someone who has done terrible things, and feel like they have no right trying to act like a saint. But he still tries to give Lena a chance make her hope a reality. Chills whenever he marches to the frontlines to protect that last hope of his niece, and brother.

YES. The dub for 86 in general is spectacular, at least to me. I am primarily a dub guy, but the shite quality of so many has helped me reqlly embrace subbed. However...every so often, we get a dubbed anime that KILLS IT. I think of 86 as one of those. On the other hand...I was going back through Shield Hero S2 for reasons, and realized, while S1, had a magnificent dub cast, S2...trash af. It's just sad. The S2 Japanese VAs were beyond perfect. Like, it felt like therapy just to listen to their presise tone, inflection, and emotion.
