I have heard that “The Lonely Kamen Rider” vibe played way more heavily in the manga ISHINOMORI created to run along with the original series...SHOCKER was waaaaaaay more powerful and entrenched amongst the elite, so it was just HONGO-San defending the common people of Japan, all on his own; given what I’ve heard about how difficult Japanese culture makes it to “stand out” , it just adds to the HEROIC BURDEN on HONGO’s shoulders...which, honestly, is exactly the vibe I’ve missed in the HEISEI, and REIWA era shows...taking on the burden of being a Rider to stand for Truth and Justice, and the good of all Mankind...

It is definitely taking a lot of cues from the manga. Particular with Rider 2 being an antagonist at first.

Part of the reason I really enjoyed Ichigo and Black, even compared to the modern rider shows. Hongo and Kotoro feel like lone warriors against an unstoppable foe, and for a while they are unable to share their identity with those they love. I see a lot of parallels between the Showa Riders and the traditional Spiderman archetype. An everyday person, who's given powers, and chooses to battle on alone and use them for good, due to their sense of responsibility.

I think they could pull Ichimonji off if they start out grim, same as the original, then they slightly diverge from the show and have Ichimonji’s mind control be successful, but then Hongo brings him back or something and Ichimonji is then there to lighten Hongo up. The movie could potentially pull this off if done correctly and if it becomes a more comedic and lighter movie by the end of it, then there’s definitely something there.

owing to how Anno embraced real-world limitations of production and filming in Godzilla and Ultraman, and put both in-continuity in Shin Godzilla and Ultraman, I wouldn't be surprised if he actually has Rider 1 break his leg in-film and need Rider 2 as a fill-in at the end.

My favorite Kamen Rider remake aesthetic is still the designs from Kamen Rider The First and Kamen Rider The Next. They got the proportions and modern look perfect while being faithful to the original design.

My biggest worry is Ichimonji as well, since the previous reboot really messed him up and it was just a case of an "in name only" type of character (even in story its stated his real name wasn't Hayato lmao). Since Toei really has a consistent issue in ever acknowledging Rider 2, who's just as important as Rider 1 in terms of shaping the franchise to the way it is today.

@Narumi Detective Agency yes it did, not only in making him not even called Ichimonji Hayato (this one being called Katsuhiko Yano before his brainwashing), relegating him to literally generic heisei secondary status (when the original was as much of a main character). He's made the inferior cyborg, when the original was not only a successor to Hongou but also "perfected" in terms of comparing their engineering (hence Hayato's introduction of the transformation pose instead of requiring wind propulsion). List goes on and on.

Kamen Rider Kabuto started off on a darker vibe,yet took on a lighter tone after only a handful of episodes. Originally,it was meant to be a darkened installment. I still love Kabuto despite the changes. I'll admit I am burnt out with all these up to date entries. WWWAAAYYY TTTOOO MUCH LIGHT IN TONE FOR ME 😬

Really can't wait to see this, the only biggest problem I have with it is the suit redesign, as a character designer and artist myself, I know they're trying to retain the retro look of the original design but speaking from an aesthetic standpoint, the 1971 style is way too outdated, helmet shape dynamic is lacking and the body chest padding is awfully bulky, whereas in 2005 The First and 2007 The Next, the suit hits all the notes perfectly on the aesthetic for a modernized era with a really close resemblance to the original, and this was in the 2000s so in 2022, I would expect something more than what we see in this trailer.

There’s no outdated aspects here, Kamen Rider is a timeless character, regardless realistically as that’s how the Shin series is meant to be none of that necessarily matters it just happens to be a man victim to society’s clutches has decided to fight back in the hopes of saving all those in need innocent and guilty. This is a Kamen Rider true to the original with a few modern tweaks as the Shin trilogy are modern retellings of old stories still dealing against an old and still existing issue and it’s more greater modern form as applies to its messages and themes.

The Legendary Monsterverse has it's strengths and is a lot of fun. But, no matter how many Toho properties they tap and how many cool monsters Lengendary introduces, it is always going to be a different flavor from the Shin works. Especially, the Shin Godzilla direction. If Shin G gets a next entry, it would easily be as exciting for me, as the Legendary continuations.
