I had 90 hours doing just one route on Hard with all side quests, first ending I got was neutral. Took me about 20 more to do the other endings. Idk how anyone could beat it in 40 hours on a first run through.

From just the trailer alone it seems like the high school squad (Dazai, Tao, Yuzuru and others) have more focus and are more at odds with each other, which is good as base SMTV really left them underdeveloped Also SMTV did have 4 Apocalypse demons with Danu, Inanna and Adramelech so it's not like there were none

SMTV was my first MEGATEN game, it took me almost 100 hours to finish the main campaign and you rocketed it within 40 hours. Congrats! For me, Vengeance is probably going to be an 80hours playthrough haha

My first playthrough was about 60 hrs and it wasn’t my first game, so I think it’s safe to say that everyone’s play styles and approaches can be different, so it’s perfectly reasonable to finish in 40, 60, 80, etc.

@@Sigismund697 depending on the difficulty, im guessing you can skip a lot of the sidequests to be able to keep up with the main story bosses. doing most of the sidequests in line with the leveling of the story bosses will get you beating the game in around 80 hrs

I am really excited, I love SMT V and this just looks like a straight up improvement. SMT V is a game that I can acknowledge has flaws but I love it anyway and its already one of my all time fav games. These improvements could easily solidify it as my favourite by a mile.

I loved SMT V and thought the story was fine. The thing is it’s just a small part of a bigger story. Amazing world building. I hope playable humans is more SMTI&II less persona. The exploration in SMTV and world was amazing. I adore the fact we will experience it in high frames and resolution. I do agree I hope we get real dungeons. That was my biggest disappointment. Not big on saving anytime. I agreed the ley lines worked. My first play through took me 120 hrs. I tried to explore, challenge, and find all the items in the world map. Map design was superb. Yee we got Dagda 💪 I wanted him since the original SMTV.

Honestly, the biggest thing I hope they fix is the general tone of the world. SMTV at least to me felt way too inviting. Once you turn into the Nahobino, the demons either felt too friendly, or not threatening enough most of the time. It made the world lose a certain edge I think the previous games had, which most notably for me at least, made it feel a lot less impactful when you found the human parts of the world. probably a nitpick, but it's something that seriously bothered me about SMTV.

I think you're right, but I think the difference is that in that game you're a Nahobino, a power forbidden by god himself and is coveted by all the major antagonists, while in other games start as just a no-name person that sometimes can't even use magic. and in nocturne few of the demons are even aware of what the demi-fiend is.

I’ve had tons of people said it was an accident, and it was only because of hardware limitations and they would of made 3 like 5 if the technology allowed it, but I don’t think they would have. The empty world was creepy. I felt way more running around an empty world and moving an arrow around a map than I did running around full 3D destroyed city with monsters everywhere

I love your playstyle, and I wish that I could do that sometimes, but when they say the game takes 80 hours, it is an AVERAGE. So plebs like me took 100 hours exploring and re-exploring, which average out to 80 in the end. Your 40 hours just happens to be below average in time, so it really just depends on how you play. I always explore way too much and do all the quests that I can find, but that's just my style, so I can agree with the 80 hour average. All of my open world game playthroughs add 1.5x (at least) the average time just because that's the way I tend to play. Keep up the good work here, and I thorougly enjoy seeing a different style of play to my own!

I also found the gameplay to be really enjoyable when I took it slow and fighting about 1-2 bosses at a time. also i pay more attention to the lore which is interesting, like how the "bull god" allowed the protag to potentially fuse with demons like baal or zeus(i think) had things gone differently.

Completing the game in 40 hours is not standard. That means going straight for the main story, ignoring side stories and other contents for completion and doing only the grind that's necessary. Probably using guides constantly too. The base game can easily give you more than 80 hours to completion without guides. Especially if you are having fun with it.

Oh thank god you can actually pick between the old story and the new one at the start! I loved SMTV, but man, was I not looking forward to replaying the WHOLE thing for just a DLC type thing. I'll be honest, I'll definitely be playing the hell outta that Elden Ring DLC first, but once I've had my fill with it, I'm instantly going into SMTV again on the PS5!

Absolutely. The SMT series is like Dark Souls for JRPGs regarding difficulty and mood. It's super fun, and if you kind of want a hardcore monster collecting game that requires some strategy and planning for its boss fights, this game I can easily recommend.

The games are structurally different, Nocturn has the overworld, dungeons, and random encounters while SMTV has less dungeons, more wide open areas to explore, and no random encounters. Also the combat mechanics are pretty different between the two even though they are both Press Turn. They're similar but different enough.

I'm a deep diver on mechanics and love a slightly mysterious game. although i wish atlus would consider releasing the game earlier (to minimize competition between elden ring) i Think those audiences don’t exactly correlate enough to affect sales that much. I felt it was dumb for sega to release the turn based yakuza rpg (that features persona music within the in game music player) and persona within a week of eachother as i could see myself buying p3 reload if it was released maybe in april or may, rather than a week after i blew my money on yakuza. point is: big epic action rpg dlc wont eat much of extremely niche japanese turn based rpg game sales.

So, if I were to get this version of the game and haven't played the original, do you think it'd be better to just play the new campaign or would it be best to play through the original first? Genuinely curious. (That being said, the day 1 DLC definitely makes me somewhat less interested, but it's not as egregious as something like DQM3 or Soul Hackers 2 where major gameplay features and/or story content is locked behind it. It's kinda just some small stuff if I'm understanding correctly. It could probably be worse)

I've theory, the only way to make both routes valid, probably in this one, it was Yahew that won the fight, instead of Lucifer. Because if this is an enhanced version of SMTV, why put the vanilla route instead. Is like FF7R letting you experience the pointy bits FF7, aswell as the Remake version. When Remake rewrites the vanilla timeline. 😅

Sure, both the base game and the new story are here, and the first game is not story heavy, just world building so u won't be missing anything, maybe the first real Tokyo boss, which I like and was in my party for the whole game, but aside from that it's all right
