Great video! I work 12 hour shifts in steel toes. On my feet an walking most of the day. I also enjoy walking in to work and home each day. I'm used to being in the steel toes all day but not at the activity level of my new job and I've picked a wickedly painful shin splint. Top to bottom of the muscle. I love the massage technique in combo with the stretches. I can feel the life flowing back into the muscle. I do 15 minutes in the morning and an hour at night. Thanks so much for the video, the techniques are really helping and I hope to be completely pain free soon!

Thank you for the information! I am going to try these. I have had chronic shin splint issues for years. It made my military career more difficult for sure. I did not get the rest needed to recover. As a civilian now, I can rest when I am injured. I have pretty much given up running entirely because of shin splints. I went to PT last week for knee issues and my PT said my muscles around the shin and outer thigh are super tight. I guess they always have been. I am hoping that I can loosen them and correct my muscle imbalance. Maybe then, I will finally be able to run.

I suffer from plantar fasciitis on both feet and yesterday I saw some video about how PF is related to shortened shin muscles, unfortunately the video only provided a basic stretch where you sit on a chair, cross one of your legs over other knee and pull your foot downwards. It brought some relief, but it wasn't enough. Stretches in this video are fantastic, I just sat on my feet (I believe the Japanese call this Seiza) for mere 3 minutes and the pain from plantar fasciitis on both of my feet is COMPLETELY GONE. Amazing. I'll make sure to stretch those shins at least once per week.

Up until I've been adding resistance while lying in bed on my back and doing "toe lifts" with a weighted blanket on top of my feet 😂..it feels nice! had shin splints from muay thai training, skipping rope barefoot for extended periods of time just absolutely murdered my shins. I was much heavier when I started too. being fat and out of shape plus the repetitive impact of jump rope, led to many nights of extreme pain. I remember trying to run and it hurt so badly that my foot went numb and since my posture was compromised, my back started to hurt. I was in the dog house for sure, didnt know when it was gonna go away. for 2 solid months, I was in like 10/10 pain after every workout. now after about 4-5 months, still dealing with slight pain but can now run 4-5 miles with no problems. here’s what helped me. during the initial 10/10 pain 1. elevate the legs, legs were swollen, elevating them helped some of the blood flow go down 2. ice. I iced them constantly. 20 mins all over each calf. helped make the pain more manageable 3. rest. I admitted that I was in just too much pain to really get the most out of the workout. took some rest days and was able to perform much better once I got back into the gym. a day or two at most. what I think made them go away 1. time. they needed time to heal. 2-3 months was a bit excessive but I still trained consistently 4-5 days a week. 2. losing weight, I lost about 20ish pounds after starting muay thai. being lighter and healthier lessened the load my shins had to carry during those high impact exercises 3. getting stronger, my buddy said that you gotta run through the shin splints, which initially I thought was a terrible idea, but now im starting to understand it. the reason why they hurt is cuz the shins were too weak to match the level of intensity you were putting them through. when they are stronger, they can handle the load. so in a way, running and training, while leaving me in quite a lot of pain, were slowly making the shin splints go away 4. never giving up, its corny but its true. stopping your exercise journey due to shin splints is a guarantee that they will return when you start back up. you gotta be able to figure out a routine that works for you and around the pain. it will go away eventually.
@wagezombie8 ай бұрын
plus I had this little electric massager that I used. not sure if it really did anything cuz I did an experiment where I iced and massaged one shin for a week and ignored the other one, and oddly enough the one I neglected felt wayyy better than the one I nursed. I have no clue why but felt the need to mention it.

I started jumping rope to condition for BMT. I leave April 9th. I only do Tuesday and Thursday for about 15-25 minutes. I just started last week. I noticed a slight achey/ soreness after yesterday’s session. It mostly went away by the next day. Is that normal or a shin splint? I can probably update in a few days about pain. It isn’t a bad pain, just like hitting chest at the gym and your chest and triceps are slightly sore for a few days.

Question - can a anterior shin splint issue result in heal pain (like planters fasciitis)? I’m a runner and had good training through the winter, ran Boston and London, then took minimal time off before starting training for fall. I thought it was planters, but ice made that pain reduce quickly and I now notice the anterior shin pain and feel knots in the upper part of the muscle. Thanks for the video I’m standing down and will try these exercises.

If I got the pain from starting to run, would it go away gradually if I keep training?

I notice that a lot of this focuses on the top portion. Is pain on the lower outside portion also caused by shin splints and will these recommendations work as well? Thank you for the video

I get these pretty often just from working in kitchens, standing for 6-12 hours. I'm no athlete, but this worked really well. I was getting stressed about it lately.

When I weighted walk my leg becomes so stiff I can hardly step and messaging it is nearly impossible as my leg is hard as a rock. It sucks. I’ll definitely try these, thanks for posting!

Hey, thanks for the video!! I joined the navy about a year ago, and was very active before that, however in boot camp we had a period where we went through a quarantine, and it was very restrictive. We all basically had no running activity for three weeks straight, and then they made us run right after, and that + breaking into new boots screwed up my legs. I have since been dealing with shin splints on and off, and for the past month I have been unable to run without pain, that get worse seemingly every time I run. But I can't rest it because we have to run, and the medical on base doesn't do anything about it. I was wondering if there would be something that can help me build up my legs safely, or at least help before/after runs.

Did you try his toe tapping method? When I had shin splints while playing soccer I sit and and tap on breaks. Helped me a lot. Good luck!

Hi, thanks a lot for this video it’s amazing. I am a swimmer who started boxing recently and I started to have shin splints, I notice somehow after running how that muscle you describe is indeed very tense and painful but the most annoying pain I have is on the other side of the shin, in the interior side if that makes sense, is it normal ? 👀 Cheers

I frequently have nocturnal leg cramps in my shins and calves and feet. I stay well hydrated, drink electrolytes and take magnesium. I find this happens much more when my step count is 10k or higher. Do you think stretching would help a great deal with nocturnal cramps?

I don't have shin splits but was hospitalized and very deconditioned upon release. Lost all my muscle. Gained my calves back but the front I can barely do 5 of the toe taps. Any tips on this?
