Excellent, especially for me, I am 81 and still doing Aikido. I am now only 130 pounds and 5'5", but can still throw others much younger and bigger than me. Aikido is for life.
Ever since I was a child watching the economy of effort demonstrated by a true martial artist has fascinated and confused me... watching this brought a smile to my face; simple yet complex the demonstration shows all that a good teacher and master is. Thank you.

It's bullshit my friend Aikido does not work on resisting opponents there's countless case studies. It confuses you because it doesn't look right, because it's not right.

@@CallousCarter I read these on somewhere, but no idea if they're true: • Aikido is actually for people who already know a martial art. Ueshiba wanted to help people who knew how to fight but want to avoid violence. • Aikido also teaches what to do when people lose their swords/how to steal the opponent's sword. That makes sense when you look at the techniques because people don't hold hands in a normal fight unless the opponent holds something. *Edit:* Saw this comment today: "I trained in Aikido for some time when I was young. Most of techniques start with the opponent grabbing you or your wrists. This was motivated by my sensei like this: "Aikido is born in warring times when people would have a sword. If you have a sword and the opponent does not want you to use it, he will try to grab your wrists and that is where the techniques stem from." The sword training part is not anymore part of a lot of Aikido teachings, but that also means that the self defense part of Aikido is more a self defense from who does not want you to use your sword. It is only natural that it is not usable without weapons. The same blows that are thrown are a mimic of the sword techniques. It looks like it has been to watered down that the attack patterns have been almost completely taken away from it. There is weapon training, but I never saw unarmed training in my years." Also, there's a channel named "Martial Arts Journey". He is trying to create a functional aikido. Maybe people would like to check it out.

@@ordinarryalien If you're already a competent grappler then you can make some of the wristlocks work (but not with the setups Aikido uses). I don't know of any Aikido gym that tells you to train a different more effective martial art before you train Aikido at their gym though.... Don't know about the sword stuff haven't got any experience with that. Uesehbia didn't present Aikido as being for armed combat only but maybe given the roots of Jiu Jitsu the moves do work better in that situation. Didn't Rojas conclude it was better to just train BJJ than trying to make Aikido work?

@@CallousCarter Oh, he abandoned aikido indeed: "...after years of effort, I looked at it and I realised-first of all, I'm not the right type of person to do that. If I'd want to make Aikido efficient, I'd have to be efficient at something which is already efficient." "I don't know of any Aikido gym that tells you to train a different more effective martial art before you train Aikido at their gym though." That's why the current aikido is a scam. *Saw this comment today:* "I trained in Aikido for some time when I was young. Most of techniques start with the opponent grabbing you or your wrists. You misread my comment... I do not say Aikido confuses me but that the economy of effort used by a master of martial arts is a thing of beauty and, by extension, a confusion of the senses. I have seen a 80 year old woman, slight as a hummingbirds wing, throw an insolent 18 year old hulk of a boy with ease and have been privileged to learn some small amount from some skilled teachers. If I were ever to lose the fascination my lack of understanding generates within me my soul would be the poorer for that loss and after more than 50 years of study I still find beauty in discovering the hidden skill within the simplest of movements.

@@jestfullgremblim8002 No, I have not. But I know all the arguments. "This is how it is in all those cultures, since centuries... so nobody is allowed to critizise."... this applies many Asian, Indian, Saudi Arabian clutures ... most Muslim countries. Still, I do not approve this... cannot. This is a very old discussion. Cultural intricacies versus an aware understanding. Of course, we can let them: slay women, slay gay communities, slay disbelivers... and many many more. But as a an aware global community we will resist. Only together we can grow.
I loved Aikido and did it intensely for nearly 5 years until I moved away from the dojo so had to do other martial arts but always with an Aikido flavour. At one stage I was teaching security personnel crowd control techniques based on Aikido. More importantly the philosophy has stayed with me and now I am in my seventies and have excellent health I believe from the breathing, exercise and philosophy I learnt through Aikido. Your videos are a joy to watch. Thankyou.
I like that you are demonstrating both with people who do not know aikido as well as with those that do. It helps to see how the techniques work with people who have not been taught how to properly react.
Yukio and Momoko, thank you. Really great film. ありがとうございました

This video was funny AND informative at the same time! My daughter is 8 and started aikido 2 years ago. I will show her your video to motivate her to pursue it. Regards from Switzerland 🇨🇭!!!
Very instructive. I see the beauty and power of Aikido through this channel's videos in a way I never see in the US. It's clearer through good Japanese Aikido that Aikido came from Jujutsu. Also the demonstrations of the techniques are so well done and understandable. Very well done.
Lol. Noo, I believe that there were more than 10 people watching this videos from overseas. At least, I watched the videos 🤣 and I'm really glad there's an English subtitle. Keep it up Shirakawa-sensei, Yoroshiku Onegaishimasu!
You do an amazing job at teaching and displaying Various Aikido techniques . I appreciate the knowledge you have and teaching ability . I hope you continue showing your videos on KZbin . -Robert from United States of America
