Early next year i plan to expand my rural Japan cafe to include rescuing stray cats in my area to turn it into a unique Cat Cafe. Any help is very much appreciated. www.buymeacoffee.com/realruraljapan

I'm convinced that the widespread continuation of older people in activities like this influences the long lifespan of the Japanese.

I agree. A reason to get up in the morning, with meaningful, fulfilling, end economically rewarding work. The epitome of small farming and cottage industry.

My ex's father was a rice and veggie farmer. Was always a blast helping out and seeing a pro at their job when it came grading time. Wish I had been able to marry that girl lol. Seems like a simple yet rewarding life.

Those are some strict rules 😊 cant you just sell grapes yourself on the roadside or online ?

JA wouldn’t be so big if it didn’t provide a great way to sell your produce. You need rules and standards to make this happen. If you ever hear a foreigner or a Japanese talking JA down on the internet you can guarantee they have no idea how farming or retail works. Japanese produce wouldn’t be so famous without their standards and the information they convey to farmers. You can sell your stuff any way you like but everything has a cost in terms of money and time. How much does it cost you in time and money to set up a roadside stall and your produce could go bad due to lack of customers? Roadside stalls people expect a discount not a premium. How much does it really cost you in terms of time and money answering emails and the hassle of sending individual orders down at the delivery company? When people walk into a JA they know what they are buying every single time and to build up your own trust and name to this level independently via online or shop is not exactly an easy thing or a profitable way to do it when you factor in everything. This is why people who talk down the JA usually don't really understand the basics of how business and how an operation like JA works to benefit farmers. They just repeat what someone else said this is how the internet works for most people unfortunately.
