I consider Roger to be the heart of Pink Floyd, and David was the soul. Gilmour is a phenomenal guitar player, but he turned the band from classic rock into literally elevator music. At the same time, it's kinda devastating though when you listen to earlier stuff like "Pigs (Three Different Ones)" and learn that it was David playing that fretless bass on the album. Roger can add Comfortably Numb to his setlist, but it's not the same if David's not singing. The two dudes together was some of the greatest music ever created. Both of them apart is two guys that fail to achieve what they're trying to achieve separately on their own. Since then, I've only really enjoyed the rare moments when they pair up, if only for a moment.
@Chr15516 жыл бұрын
It's not that devastating. Roger played rhythm guitar all the time on PF records, including most of the Animals record is his rhythm guitar playing. Sheep is excellent for example. David played some bass, but not the majority, but when there is a fret-less bass yes it's David. Still Davids contribution to the records was certainly not larger than Waters. Waters also contributed a lot of sound effects and synth playing as well as working on the final production. When you add that to writing the lyrics as well as composing most of the music, his contribution was certainly great. But yeah they each had their strengths, Gimour's was in the more technical/flashy playing department, but that wouldn't matter a whole lot if the songs weren't great to begin with.
@bomozy5 жыл бұрын
I enjoy them both separately but they do fall short of what was once great.
@mabelmabel51453 жыл бұрын
@Chr1551 It's true, it's funny that people think of Roger as an inferior musician just because David played bass on some tracks, when his musical and lyrical contribution is so vast.
