Yes, all the members of SHINee are solo artists. SHINee is actually the first SM group to have all their members debut solo. Taemin debuted first in 2014 with his album Ace (Taemin has more than 11 solo albums so far), then Jonghyun debuted in 2015 with his album Base (He has at least 5 solo albums), then Key debuted in 2018 with his album Face (He has 5 solo albums so far, with his newest album to drop next week), Onew debuted in 2018 with his album Voice (He has 4 solo albums so far) and Minho completed the legacy in 2022 with his album Chase. Fun fact: All of SHINee's debut solo albums have one-word titles and they all rhyme. It was a tradition that was started by Jonghyun and the members have said the reason why they deliberately named their first solo album in this way is to show everyone that no matter what they do they are always a group and SHINee is very important to them. All their solo debut albums also have a similar physical look and style so that when you collect all 5 of them, they become a set. It's a way for the members to show their solidarity as SHINee even when doing solo projects.

FYI Shinee is one of (if not the ) ONLY kpop groups past or present where every one of the members is a successful solo artist. I believe next year Taemin will celebrate his 10 year solo career anniversary. Also in the first song Taemin and Key split JH's lines with most going to Taemin. And since JH's passing Taemin has gotten a lot of JH's lines in songs because it is believed that of the remaining members his voice sounds the most similar to JH's.

Fun fact: The girl in SHINee's "Why So Serious?" is Irene from Red Velvet. She was in this MV even before Red Velvet debuted. To understand the structure of this song you have to keep in mind that the whole point of SHINee as a group is to be experimental and to try things that no one else has ever done. There is no better example of that than songs like "Why so Serious?" The song was meant to blend several different styles and sounds together to create something never seen or heard before, and SHINee did it brilliantly. Yep, you're right, "Why So Serious?" came out in 2013, and right before SHINee were to start promotions for the song, Jonghyun was in a car accident and he broke his nose. His face was all bruised up. That's why he wasn't in the MV, because SM decided it would be better for him to take some time to heal. But instead of postponing their promotion schedule, including the already planned MV shoot -- which would have cost them a lot of money to do so, among other things -- SM decided to shoot the MV with only 4 members. This was 5 years after debut, so Onew and Jonghyun were about 23 at this time, Key and Minho were about 21 and Taemin was 19. Therefore, in the MV Taemin covers a large majority of Jonghyun's parts, including most of his lines in the song -- just like Taemin now covers most of the parts that probably would have been Jonghyun's in all of their new songs, such as the main high notes. Jonghyun was Taemin's vocal coach and he helped teach Taemin how to sing, so Taemin's voice matches Jonghyun's voice the most out of all the members. That is why he is the one to take over the majority of Jonghyun's parts in SHINee's songs. However, if you listen to the studio recording from their album, you will hear that Jonghyun is part of the official track. It was a few weeks into their promotions before Jonghyun was back to promoting this song, but if you watch one of their last weeks of their live comeback performances or a concert performance, you will get to see him in the song. You really should check out a live performance because the song is even better with all 5 of their voices. Check out their performance from their SHINee World Concert V (SWC5) in Seoul from 2016, kzbin.info/www/bejne/f6CYfouErM6iipY. The choreography for this song is actually known as the zombie dance. If you look up the English translation of the lyrics you will see the song is a sort of zombie love story about being brought back to life by love. And FYI, that's just a security guard, not the police. The guard heard some noise while making his rounds and came to check to see what's going on. ;p LOL. When the guard finally makes it to the room to see what is happening, the SHINee members have disappeared, so he is shocked because all he sees is Irene dancing all by herself in the room. He thinks all that commotion he heard was coming from one little girl listening to a CD. Little did he know that she was having a full-on dance party with a group of cute zombie boys right before that. Don't worry too much about songs you don't like the first time you hear them, this is common in many songs precisely because SHINee is an experimental group! As always, I recommend watching the live versions as they are always much better than the recorded versions! About the Japanese songs, I highly recommend Ofra's channel and I also posted in the comments of the previous video a list with links to all the Japanese MVs in the full version! Out of the three songs you guys reacted to, Breaking News is definitely my favorite too!

As a journalist, I have always been partial to SHINee's "Breaking News." LOL But it's even better when you see and hear it done live in concert. :D Yet again, it's one of SHINee's Japanese tracks, so you have to check out a performance from one of their Japanese concerts to fully appreciate it. There is something about SHINee's Japanese songs that make them special. However, if you are new to SHINee, you may not know most of their Japanese songs because their Japanese MVs are usually not promoted outside of Japan. Therefore, if you don't follow SHINee closely, you may miss seeing their Japanese MVs. Plus, because Japanese MVs are produced by Japanese labels, they usually have stricter copyright standards, which means they are difficult for reactors to react to. Unfortunately, for that reason, SHINee's Japanese tracks are often overlooked or avoided, which means people are truly missing out on some gems. Also, most Japanese MVs that are released outside of Japan are the short versions of the song and MV, so what you saw with the "Boys Meet U" and "Breaking News" MV that you watched, were the short versions. However, if you want to see the full MV and hear the whole song, I encourage you to look for the "full version" MV, which is uploaded by a Japanese fan. SHINee debuted as Japanese artists in 2011 and they have Japanese versions of a majority of their songs, plus, tons of songs, such as "Breaking News," that are exclusively in Japanese. SHINee are one of the most popular artists in Japan. They are so popular that they are part of the mainstream music scene and most Japanese citizens don't even consider them foreign artists. They spend about 50% of their career in Japan, so they are fluent in Japanese and they have just as many Japanese albums and songs as they do Korean. Therefore, when SHINee holds a concert in Japan it's almost entirely in Japanese. They don't even need translators when they interact with the audience.

The SWC V performance of Why So Serious is among their greatest imo. It's not a typical pop song. My initial reaction was similar to yours but I've come to appreciate it. I think it's a great song now. Watch the performance and see if it grows on you.

One of the strange things about SHINee for me is, some of their songs aren’t really my style that I don’t really listening to and not even in my playlist (no offense, I’m a shawol since their debut 🤣). But some of those songs became the one I really enjoy when I watch their concert 😂 As SHINee said, they wanna make us happy with their music, so I think we don’t have to force ourselves to like ALL of them. But they are some episodes of our journey to embrace ❤️💙💛💚💜

Japanese videos were teaser videos, so only half the song played in order to get fans to buy the cd/dvds, from what I understand. SHINee's japanese videos tend to be on the poppier side, and more electronic. All of SHINee are soloists. WSS divides shawols, too!

I have been enjoying your SHINee reactions a lot. All SHINee members are soloists too. I highly recommend checking out Jonghyun's discography, including at least a few b-side songs. His is one of the most impressive singers I've heard and is considered one of the best vocalists in kpop (he also wrote a huge amount of lyrics and self produced some of his albums). To me personally, he is the best vocalist out there ♥ Said that, all SHINee members are amazing (and have very different styles) as solo artists and I hope you'll find the time to check out all of them.

Jonghyun was hurt and did not do any promotions until the end. It’s the one Video he missed and Taemin often said he wishes he could redue it. He sang Jonghyun parts. Check it out live and you’ll see the difference. Jonghyun musically worked with Taemin from the beginning. Remember Taemin didn’t have any solo lines in the beginning but worked with Jonghyun over time.

The video of Boys meet U that you watched I think is just the snippet that was released. This goes for all of their official Japanese MVs. You’ll probably have to watch the full version of any of their japanese mvs from another channel that uploaded them.

For the next set of MVs in order (all from 2013 still, it was a busy year for Shinee): - Everybody (Korean, Shinee's take on dubstep) - 3 2 1 (Japanese, only the short version of the MV was uploaded officially. It was released as a single, but was also an OST for a J-drama). Fans have uploaded the full MV, but I'm not sure it's worth the copyright risk reacting to that... There's some epic live stages to this song, so you can hear the full thing that way. Personal favorite is SWC3 version. - Colorful (Korean, Christmas present for fans)

The lyrics in SHINee's "Boys Meet U" are "Girls go by ... " because, if you pay attention to the lyrics, it's about wanting to appreciate all the beautiful girls they see around them as they travel the world. Which is why the song is titled "Boys Meet U", because it' about all the beautiful fans they meet from all over the world. It's a song for Shawols. The lyrics are about how they are watching as all the girls walk past them or all the "girls go by." Which is why in the song they don't just describe one type of girl, but they say they like blond girls, black hair girls, cute girls, sexy girls, sweet girls, all the beautiful girls, etc. They are describing all their ideal types and saying that everyone is beautiful to them, etc. Just so you know, the song isn't called "Boys" it's called "Boys Meet U." If you put the full title of the song in the title on your reaction, people might be able to find your video more easily if they are looking for your "Boys Meet U" reaction. As you can see and hear, this is another one of SHINee's Japanese exclusive songs.

Why so serious is a concert+performace song. I completely see why you disliked it, because when I first heard it, it was too chaotic for me. And once again, SHINee's live performance just transforms the song completely. If you guys are open to giving it another try, do watch the SHINee World 5 performance. SHINee mentioned in one of their interviews that when they debuted they considered themselves lacking, since they were comparing themselves to their seniors at the time...which pushed them to put in more work into their live performances. You can see the results. SHINee are known in the industry for the energy they bring on stage...their seniors and juniors would actually come watch their stages while recording for music shows/performaces. Also, no two SHINee tittle songs are the same...if you have noticed.

I tend to like live performances more than most MVs (Why So Serious being no exception, especially the SWC 5 version; I miss Jonghyun too much in the MV), and while I think the Everybody MV is very cool and the vocals ofc are terrific, you miss a lot of the choreo and the insane energy of the song. Recommending for live the Tokyo Dome performance: m.kzbin.info/www/bejne/hpC5e5Kcocx4jNE and the dance practice is great for really letting you see the moves: m.kzbin.info/www/bejne/fYbJaJuYpdJ5gsk 3-2-1 is just *fun* (you MUST see a live performance for this one!)... songs like this and A-yo and Woof Woof will show you yet another side of Shinee. They can do anything and do it with 100% commitment and Shinee talent and style, and with such a widely ranging body of work sooner or later they'll show you something that doesn't speak to you. (The first time you hear it, anyway. Their songs often grow on you even if you're not sure about them at first...) Loving your Shinee journey!

SHINee's non-title tracks are just as good, if not better, than their title tracks. For Shawols we recommend you listen to ALL of SHINee's songs and react to all their MVs. If all you do is limit yourself to their title tracks you are missing out on hundreds of songs that are just as amazing. Why shouldn't they react to their B-side songs?
