when shinee's don't call me came out, some people said they didn't like it because it wasn't shinee's usual style of music. which made no sense since shinee is an experimental group. It's really fun to follow their music, it's like opening a blind box, you never know what you'll get next.

Yeah, I said the exact same thing. I think most of those comments came from newer fans who didn't understand all the risks and musical experiments from SHINee. Literally every comeback was some different form/genre or mix of genres from SHINee. The funniest comment was from some who said DCM sounded like the copy of an EXO song. Then a video came out of SHINee talking with two music producers (not involved in DCM) who were lauding SHINee for their risk in using the song because it was so different from standard Kpop fare. SHINee revealed they worked on the existing, bare-bones song quite a bit to make it unique: kzbin.info/www/bejne/mGPUqmCpm9pnqbc

On Taemin training at 14, you can see in his own music that he struggled a lot with finding himself amidst growing up in the toxic entertainment industry. It's really a wonder he grew up as well as he did and I think the other members played a large part in that too.

When i see today so many toxic fans ( of Bts & Blackpink) posting toxic comment about Shinee disrespecting them just for existing not because of something in particular (probably cause they see them still being popular today even if they're an old groupe & that they don't know them or else ...) it really make me angry cause SHINEE have build the Kpop & what it is today , most trend or thing that their groupes do today SHINEE were the first one doing it . They're known to be the Pilar of Kpop, Most celebrity who've came after them love them & some are even fan of them (They're well respected by everyone in the industry) Now Kpop really look a like, have "same concept same type of music" etc (it change little by little but ..) & most importantly the fandoms have became so TOXIC (of course back then Fandoms were toxic too in some ways) but today it 100% worst than in the past

I disagree, they are not the only one that shaped kpop industry to what it is today. Their legacy are smaller compared to bigbang, suju and tvxq if we are talking about boygroup. Almost all boygroup now either follow blueprint by bigbang and suju line. Also if we're talking about expansion in asia, suju was the first one to open barrier to southeast asia, tvxq in japan and bigbang outside of asia, breaking stereotypes, producing and writing their own songs (which nowadays idol have been given and follow chance). Known to have fun and unchanging concept every comeback, they also great discography with almost all genre try, trot, r&b, hip hop,blues,pop and many more. I also disagree with trend and fashion ,if we're talking about fashion, gd is the king of fashion. Even idol acknowledged it and he literally founded and own peaceminesone, it's the third highest sell in asia, and number one in korea. He's also the first to become ambassador for brand like chanel and work with them. He literally gave opportunity to every idol now. The changing hair color for comeback was also bigbang trend that they have popularized. They are many achievement of 2nd gen group and they are the one that shaped and exert more influence compared to shinee. Not saying shinee didn't but it's smaller than the three group mentioned

SHINee did not have it easy and Jjongs depression started before debuting and in my opinions Koreas mental health system fucked up on him(doctors excused his mental health!!) and i think Korea overall needs better educational and mental health system. But back to Shinee, i would say Taemin did have it pretty bad when he debuted at 14(started traning at 11), he was criticized on his vocal skills and was called tone deaf before he debuted and had almost 0 lines in their first song/album, he spent very little time with his family and would cry thinking about his brother(a problem shinee and all of kpop have, underage kids should get to see their family more often) He was also heavily sexualized by men and women(constantly touched without permission, inappropriate jokes, and made to do uncomfortable/sexual things) and was femanized, which caused him to not like his androgynous look and took him a while(until MOVE era) for him to embrace it. I can go on about the other members but that would be way too long, but i have lots of appreciation and more respect towards them after finding out what they've been thru.

I was really surprised to see the problems at SM as I had thought they treated their groups better than most. I can't claim to be a Shawol but I enjoy finding out about the members. They have gone through so much as a group. Losing Jonghyun must have been devastating on both a professional and personal level. I have friends who think that famous people have nothing to complain about but we don't know what strains they are under. Imagine falling in love and getting married and your fans camp outside your agency demanding you divorce as has happened to one K-Pop star. Or when you announce your daughter's birth a group of people try to destroy you as happened to, Tablo, of Epic High. It's good to hear that the SHINee Foundation is a great support for young artists. I was interested to learn that SHINee started the filming of dance practices. I believe that Taemin was a lot younger than 14 when he started training. He was fourteen at debut.

SM unfortunately has a long and storied history with artist mistreatment, you can look into the story of TVXQ/JYJ, Hangeng from Super Junior, as well as the original Chinese members of EXO (Luhan, Kris, and Tao) for some of the more well known lawsuits.
@Julianna_w Жыл бұрын
Not really. Another reader has commented about what happened to TVXQ and EXO. Shinhwa (a top 1st gen group) was also torn apart when they were about to renew their contracts. To cut a long story short, the members decided to leave together but ended up in a decade-long legal battle for the rights to use their name. This together with what they did to JYJ's careers in a way show how vindictive they can be. SME's profit distribution rates with its artists are generally known to be one of the lowest (if not the lowest) in the industry....not exactly treating their groups well IMHO

Granted I am not a fan of BTS, I am sure they are all cool and talented dudes, but I will say this: BTS had a lot of good international social media marketing at a time when most groups were still only promoting on old school TV shows. I understand you would have liked your fav artists to be at their fame level, well, they just couldn’t. I like some of the music of Exo and Shinee, I respect their work and skills, this why I watched the reaction. Would I invest time streaming, voting, and money on them, like I do in BTS? Not, but then I don’t do it with any other artists that I like either. Im 60+, lover of hip hop, funk, and rock. I never liked pop artists, such as Exo and Shinee, until I listened to BTS hip hop music, through them I learned of K-music. RM’s collabs in his solo album and latest singles have opened the doors for me to several incredible Korean artists. I know I’m not the only person who has had a similar experience. And this is what gives your fandom such a bad reputation. You only look to find ways to feel slighted instead of actually listening to what people say. If you weren't so bias you would see that all he said in the video was that SHINee was making waves and making it big in the same way that BTS is doing it now, but way before BTS was even popular. That doesn't mean he is looking down on BTS or hatting on them. If you don't have the open mindedness to objectively support other groups and give them the accolades they deserve, regardless of whether someone else is more successful today, than don't bother even watching anything else. Just stick to BTS and leave the rest of the fandoms alone. There's no reason to be mean. And its very bad form and sets a bad example for your fandom when you feel the need to assert your bias in a video that is meant to be a tribute to a group who deserve your respect, whether you are a fan of theirs or not. If you don't like a video or a reaction just don't watch it, don't be the reason why BTS fans get a bad reputation. The BTS members would be the first ones to tell you that SHINee deserves respect, regardless of whether BTS is more popular or not. And the SHINee members would also tell you that they respect and love all the BTS members just the same. Shawols support all artists, not just SHINee. You should consider doing the same.
