Another trivia: In 2011, Shinee became the 1st Asian artist to perform at London's Abbey Road Studios. The CEO of Abbey Road Studios was so amazed by the number of people gathered for Shinee, so he said "It was the first time so many people have gathered outside the studio. Minho is an ambassador of youth and as the First Lady of the United States, Melania Trump's platform was all about youth indicatives. They were both participating in an event promoting Girls Play, giving girls more opportunities to participate in sports. It was part of promotions for the 2018 winter Olympics, which were hosted by South Korea that year. Minho is also considered one of the BEST idol athletes and he is known for his passion for all things sports and competition related, so that is why he was involved in this event in particular. The girls' reaction to seeing Minho was such a trending topic that it was covered by international media all over the world. I was lucky enough to watch one of SHINee’s last performances as 5 members live. Many groups were performing in the concert, but most fans were waiting and excited for SHINee. They’re all truly amazing, and their choreographies are still considered as one of the most complex in Kpop!

Contributing to the group's artistry through writing, composing, and styling SINCE DEBUT is something that is rare and really really hard to do in SM. When their artists proposed their artistry to be in their group's works/releases, SM's typical response is along the way "What makes yours so unique/special that we have to use/incorporate those? What makes you better than the company's partner composers/songwriters/producers who have years of experience even recognized globally?". Shinee being able to do that since debut proves that SM acknowledged their talents and abilities. Jonghyun's breakthrough in SM also brought chain reactions to the kpop industry as a whole, such as him releasing a fully self composed album, writing songs for singers/groups from other agencies, and collaborating with artists/musicians from other agencies, which opened paths for other artists to do the same.

The choreography for SHINee's "Sherlock (Clue & Note)" was created by Tony Testa a very well-known "Hollywood"-famous American choreographer who has also worked with some of the most famous artists, productions and dancers in the world, including Michael Jackson. "Sherlock" was the first time SM (or pretty much anyone in the Kpop industry) had ever used a famous choreographer, and, at the time, it was the most expensive Kpop production ever because Tony Testa is one of the industry's top choreographers, so he costs more than the average choreographer. Prior to this, most of the choreographers were in-house choreographers that had more of an average salary because they weren't as well know outside of the Kpop industry. Once again, SHINee were trendsetters and because of SHINee's skill level, SM became the first to see the value in using a well-known choreographer to help create their dances and to strive for a level of choreography and video production that surpassed anything that had ever been done before. (Now, SHINee -- and numerous SM groups -- have worked with Tony Testa multiple times over the years.) Today it's common place for Kpop companies to have really famous in-house choreographers, and to seek out people in the industry who are really making a name for themselves to choreograph for them, but SHINee was one of the first.

Jonghyun's and Taemin's cover of "Internet War" was super controversial in 2012 and they got a lot of backlash from the public because of the underlying LGBTQ undertones of their performance, including, as you saw, calls for them to be removed from the group. The mainstream public wasn't happy about the message they were sending and thought it was unbecoming of an Idol. However, it didn't phase Jonghyun. In true Jonghyun style, as an answer to all the hate, he changed his online profile picture to a picture of him and Taemin handcuffed together with their arms raised in the air. Jonghyun was known for standing up for those who were marginalized in society and supporting things like the LGBTQ community and talking about mental health, etc., which were all things that were/are taboo subjects in the super conservative South Korean society.
