"Juliette" is one of the dozens of songs that was wrote by Jonghyun, and it was one of SHINee's first songs to win the top spot on music shows. You might recognize the melody of the song because it was originally a song covered by the American singer/actor Corbin Bleu called "Deal with It." When SM bought the rights to the song they kept the melody, but Jonghyun rewrote the lyrics. :D As you can see, Jonghyun was writing songs and making his mark almost from the beginning. And Minho also wrote his rap section in the song. Minho has credits on almost all of SHINee's songs because he writes all his rap parts. This was also part of the era where SHINee started the trend of the colored skinny jeans. SHINee are known for their "school boy fashion/student look" and everyone started wearing colored skinny jeans at this time because of SHINee. They are even trendsetters when it comes to fashion. Never following trends, but always creating them in everything they do. :D It is safe to say that the original trend of colored skinny jeans in the west was probably a transplant from the trend that SHINee started. A lot of foreign idols over the years have told SHINee that the fashion trends they started in Korea were adopted by them in the U.S., Canada, China, Thailand, etc. That's how influential SHINee are. The glasses and masks they are wearing in this MV are crazy because they are supposed to be attending a sort of trendy version of a masquerade event like when Romeo and Juliet secretly meet each other at Juliet's family's costume masquerade ball. The SHINee boys are all supposed to be Romeo and they are searching for their Juliette -- who is played by Krystal from F(X), SHINee's sister group. As you discovered, Jonghyun is known for his Michael Jackson-like vocals. That's just Jonghyun's classic style. That Michael-like cry is pure Jonghyun and what you heard is their signature R&B sound. Taemin is the one that dances like MJ, but it's Jonghyun that is the one that sounds like him. When "Juliette" was first released Taemin was still growing into his voice, so he didn't really have a whole lot of lines in the song. His parts were originally designed to highlighted more of his dance skills. "Juliette" came out in 2009, so Taemin was a year older than in "Replay" -- he was almost 16 years old here. Minho and Key are 17, Onew was 19 and Jonghyun had just turned 19. (You have to remember that SM started its new KZbin channel in 2011 and reuploaded all its older MVs and videos at that time, so anything that came before 2011 will have a 2011 date, but that isn't necessarily the date originally was released.) If you like this song, what you need to see is a live performance. There is nothing better than SHINee live. Check out their SHINee World Concert V (SWC5) performance of "Juliette" (and "Amigo") from 2016, kzbin.info/www/bejne/bmLUpaqrjM-Mpck. Fun fact: In 2011, as part of their Japanese debut, they also came out with a Japanese version of "Juliette" with its own MV.

Actually, "Juliette" was released in 2009 so it's even longer back than that XD And yes it was a western song that SM bought the rights for. And it's also the 1st title track that members got to participate in, in particular Jonghyun contributed lyrics :) Also, the main girl in the MV is actually Krystal of f(x) ;o "Dream Girl" is such a cool song, and such a quirky MV XD The mic choreo is really cool, and there's a live stage where they show off their professionalism bc the mic stand breaks but they seamlessly get them off the stage to not be a danger :o "1 of 1" is so cool too and iirc it has a great message in the lyrics too, smth like "you are 1 of a kind" ;o Also, yeah, Onew was injured so he's not doing any choreo in the MV

If you haven't seen it before I'd really recommend Sea of Hope (or at least just the performance sections). It's a really chill, wholesome show and Onew does some incredible performances, often alongside other great voices like Su-hyun (AKMU), Rose (Blackpink), and Sunwoojunga (soloist with a stunning and unusual voice).

SHINee's "Dream Girl" came out in 2013. ("Juliette" was released in 2009.) The song is called "Dream Girl" so the whole MV is a dream sequence. That is why the set looks like the room has been tipped on its side. It's also why the one set has the floor behind them and it looks like they are dancing on the walls. That's why you see the video glitches and why they are jumping and falling from the ceilings and walls and why you see Onew roll down the wall, etc. Their outfits are mismatched patterns and styles -- and Taemin's pants look like two No. 2 pencils (pink eraser, green metal band and yellow pencil) -- because it's a dream and not everything has to make sense in a dream. (This was another of SHINee's very iconic looks, and it's one of the things that makes SHINee, SHINee.) Fun fact: You can't see the girl's face because she is a "dream girl." It doesn't matter what she looks like because Shawols are SHINee's dream girls. (Shawols are supposed to imagine ourselves as the "dream girl" SHINee is talking about.) So the girl represents all their fans. And the fact that her face is covered with flowers represents how their dream girl is as beautiful as flowers, etc. That is why all the scenes are the way they are because it's a dream so anything can happen. This song and MV is one of the dozens of reasons why SHINee won artist of the year in 2013 at the Mellon Music Awards, one of the most prestigious awards in the Kpop industry. When someone who is new to SHINee says "this sounds like SHINee's sound" or this doesn't sound anything like what I would expected from SHINee," etc., we Shawols just shake our heads. LOL. Every song is SHINee's sound, no matter the style because SHINee's whole concept is that they are an experimental group, so NOTHING they do will be similar to anything you have seen or heard from them in the past and it will be like nothing you ever hear from them in the future. The only thing you can ever anticipate when it comes to SHINee is that it will be unique and amazing and probably one of the best performances you have ever seen. And yet, it will always have that unmistakable style and feel that makes it clearly SHINee-like in every way. You definitely need to check out their dance practice video for "Dream Girl," kzbin.info/www/bejne/e6TJmoKFaaaJmsk. You should really check out a live concert stage for "Dream Girl" -- the mic stand choreography is legendary and, like SHINee, it was so unique for its time and unlike anything anyone had done up until then. Just another example of what makes SHINee pure greatness and why they are considered one of the best when it comes to their vocals and dancing. :D There is even an iconic moment in one of their MCountdown comeback stages for "Dream Girl" where Minho's mic stand breaks in the middle of the dance and the way they all improvised and kept on dancing just shows how skilled and professional they are. Check out an episode of the variety show Beatles Code 2 where they talk about it. I love this episode of the show because it has so many iconic SHINee moments. I think you will enjoy watching it. Part 1: kzbin.info/www/bejne/boPQimeVoKt3m9U and Part 2: kzbin.info/www/bejne/rJXLqpiFr56MoJo (Just so you know, the other guests on the show are members of the iconic first generation boy group G.O.D. and Shindong, one of the members of Super Junior, is one of the hosts of the show. The concept of this variety show is The Beatles "Yellow Submarine" theme. So that is why the hosts are dressed the way they are, they are supposed to look like the members of The Beatles.) The mic stands have been specially made to be lighter and stronger than a regular mic stand, and if you watch the show I suggested above, you will get to see them up close, etc. However, the SHINee members still had to train a lot with them to be able to pull off these impressive moves.

Idk if you're interested, but here are some interesting things about Dream Girl! On the first music show performance for Dream Girl, Minho broke his mic stand, but you can't even tell because the members sneakily used the song's choreo to move it off the stage so that they wouldn't trip on it. Dream Girl is also the reason why the music program "Show Champion" changed the rules so that a song is only allowed to have 3 wins (aka a triple crown). Dream Girl is the only song to have 4 wins because they didn't realize it'd be so popular. xD

Thank you for the reaction and I’m glad that you enjoyed the songs those three tt are from my top5 shinee tt Juliette was what made me a shinee fan, I’m glad that sm back then trusted Jonghyun to write the song lyrics because from what the members said apparently the lyrics sm was gonna give them wasn’t good and Jonghyun decided to write the lyrics for the song and the lyrics were pretty good so sm at the end went with Jonghyun lyrics Also Dream girl is the era the members say they started to be who they are and got most control of their sound at the time in 2013 so it’s great, it’s my absolute favorite shinee tt till this day I love it so much and the love stages for that song are amazing 1of1 is an icon and a legend, their best album and era for me till this day. 90’s perfection and they went all out with the concept it was great Speaking of Onew, his latest album Circle is great I highly recommend listening to it

Like man, SHINee makes me interested in genres, kudos to SHINee for always trying something new 🙌 And 1 of 1 album is just sooo Good, if you loved 1 of 1, You would also like Feel Good, not the same but the beats, and synths are 🤌

Here are some fun facts about SHINee's "1 of 1" MV: "1 of 1" came out in 2016 and it is the title track on SHINee's 5th full length Korean album. SHINee debuted on May 25, 2008, (5/25). In this MV there were 25 girls. So, 5 members + 25 girls = 5/25. All the girls in this MV are models, so that is why they don't really dance, and if you notice, most of the girls are taller than the SHINee members LOL -- but that's OK because it fits the theme of the MV well. The reason why the MV has this look and feel is because the whole album has a retro '90s theme. For example, in the '90s often the girls that were featured in MVs were well known models and actresses, not backup dancers. The MV was supposed to have that slightly awkward, unpolished look and feel to it because it was part of the retro aesthetic. Also if you notice, either the time stamp on the MV or the time stamp on the song is exactly 5:25 as well. LOL you called their clothing styles in their "Juliette" MV outdated, and yet, that style is way more recent of a style than their '90s retro styles in their "1 of 1" MV. The two styles are almost a decade different, and you prefer the one that is actually taken from a much older era. ;p You go on and on praising their looks in "1 of 1," which are like nothing people were wearing in 2016 or even today, and you made fun of their clothing choices that were part of the trend and what people were actually wearing when "Juliette" was first released. As someone who was a teenager in the '90s, I can attest to the fact that this whole project is the perfect example of the '90s. Everything, from the look of the set with the all white background to the clothes everyone wore, to their dance moves, to the video editing and the sound of the song, was all '90s. They even released some of their albums on cassette tape as part of a limited collector's edition to further celebrate the '90s theme. It's amazing how every song SHINee releases is very unique and unlike any other, and yet, every time, no matter what, it always has that very SHINee feel. Thank Key for all the fashion in this MV. As SM's director of fashion, Key, in consultation with their stylist, was the one who picked out the outfits and styled everyone for this MV, including the models' outfits. And he pulled together the perfect '90s looks. :D (He spent some time in middle school -- before becoming a trainee with SM at around age 14 -- studying in Australia and the U.S. And he says his grandma had an English tutor when he was growing up. Which is why he is fluent in English and is so into western culture.) I heard Minho say once that he dyed his hair blond for this comeback because his mom told him he should do it. There has only been a handful of times in the past 15 years that Minho has ever dyed his hair any other color besides brown or auburn. And when he has, it doesn't stay that color for more than a few weeks. :D As you may know, Minho is a lead actor in a lot of K-dramas and movies. So, one of the reasons why I think he doesn't dye his hair as often as other idols, is because of his acting roles. The majority of the roles that he plays are boy next door-type characters or historical dramas, etc. so he needs to look as average as he can. (Or, at least as average as a guy who was born with model good looks can anyway. LOL) When not working with SHINee he is almost always working on his next drama or movie. Yes, Onew sprained his ankle in concert right before they started promoting for this album and he was unable to dance. That is why you saw him sitting down the whole time in the MV and why there are only 4 of them in the dance breaks. It was several weeks into promotions for this song before Onew was able to participate in the choreography. If you want to see all 5 of them dancing you will have to check out one of their last live comeback stage performances or their SHINee World Concert V (SWC5) in Seoul stage.

1of1 is that song! I feel like it never gets enough love! Really these 3 are some of my favorite Shinee singles. Also, Juliette's styling always makes me cringe so I don't watch the video...haha But also, Jonghyun performed it alone on Sketchbook as this sensual piece during his Crazy promotion era...and man, what we could have had!!! I listen to that performance all the time and would highly recommend it.

juliette is super cute, very nostalgic. i can't unhear the corbin bleu version tho... dream girl mic choreo is so fun!! would recommend some music show stages of that, it's pretty satisfying to watch. and 1of1 (the album) is all very aesthetic n retro, and it's a lot of peoples' favorite! (also it's funny that you said key was serving face because that was the title of his debut album (in the shinee solo album plagiarism series--taemin ace/jonghyun base/key face/onew voice/minho chase); idk if that was a deliberate joke or not but it was funny lmao) glad you're looking forward to the comeback--i'd love love love for you to check out some more solo stages by onew/key! and I don't remember if you've listened to the rest of the circle album, but that'd be cool too if you haven't gotten to it yet!

More SHINee yes!!! Juliette was significant as it was the first time SM accepted Jonghyun's lyrics for a title track and it was so successful that it certainly was a big reason why they allowed him so much creative freedom later on. You mentioned Dream Girl sounded more SHINee to you and yeah, to me it is THE most quintessentially "SHINee" of their title tracks.
