Taemin really did a good job holding the fort while the hyungs were in the military, and so many baby shawols found SHINee cause of him while they're serving. Now the hyungs are doing so well. Can't wait for SHINee 2023

I’m a little sad we made it to the end, but it was a fun ride! Just a bunch of info - Think Of You was actually a gift to Taemin’s Jjakgoongs (that’s how he calls his fans and it means best friends, partners). He shoot it very low budget while being in Paris for SuperM concert. It’s a very sweet song in which he actually asks fans to love him and be his safe place where he can find comfort, just like he’s always this safe place for us. Taemin’s relationship with his fans is super super close and genuine I personally love that he’s not afraid to show his more vulnerable side to us. Advice, well I don’t think it needs any comments other than it’s a freaking masterpiece just as Taemin himself. Oh and Taemin has an amazing stylist, with whom he’s been working for a long time. Key has nothing to do with Taemin’s styling in any of his solo work. Just Me And You only goes to show you how versatile and artistic Taemin is. I genuinely believe there’s no end to his creativity, God bless him for that! Finally SuperM’s song was a collab with Prudential (the insurance company (?)) hence the specific vibe and the choreo that is relatively easy to follow.

It’s funny cause think of you is probably the most different Taemin MV from his usual dark and sexy concept but in reality, this is the closest to the actual Taemin as a person. He’s literally so cute and mischievous off stage 😭

I’m usually more of a lurker but after all of theses videos, well, it’s only fair I express how much I’ve loved these….I’ve been going through a stressful career change/move and these videos have provided a much needed respite from all of it. I love SHINee so much (SuperM crew too) and seeing you find out more about them and go on this journey has been a real blast. I have really enjoyed the energy you bring to these videos, I end them all with a big smile on my face. These must have been so much work, from compiling the list of all the videos, and the notes (thank you, Emily!), to sitting down and watching the videos, reading the lyrics (thank you!!!), and then editing the videos…not to mention that you even edit the videos that get blocked so we can still see something. A herculean undertaking. I am looking forward to seeing more SHINee reactions like live stages in the future, but at this point, I’ll probably enjoy pretty much anything you react to. As you know, as SHINee's fashion designer, Key, along with help from their stylists, is often the one that designs their outfits for their MVs and concerts. He has even been given the official title of SM's director or fashion. That is why you saw him picking out clothes in "Superstar" -- which was really just him showing off some of the outfits he selected and designed for SHINee's previous MVs and concerts. Each of the things you saw the members doing in "Superstar" were things that represent who they are -- Minho is one of the top idol athletes who is crazy about sports and games, so he was playing the video game and playing soccer; Onew is really into arts and crafts and baking these days, so he was shown painting the picture; Key is into fashion; and Taemin is known as the dance king, so he was playing Superstar Revolution (i.e. Dance Dance Revolution), etc. And yes, Minho is rapping. He is the main rapper of SHINee and he writes all his own rap sections in SHINee's songs. I heard that Taemin literally went right from filming his "Advice" MV to filming SHINee's "Superstar" MV the next day. He was on a super tight schedule because of his military enlistment date. (As you can see, Taemin's hair extensions are his look from his "Advice" MV. He was in the middle of his solo promotions when they released "Superstar.") Also, SHINee will forever be a group of 5, so, they always make sure to include Jonghyun, in everything they do. So, fans also think the 4 pillows Onew drops from the second floor were used to represent Jonghyun. One of the pillows isn't caught by the members and it lands next to them, which is thought to represent the fact that they were tossing the pillow to Jonghyun. As you discovered, "Superstar" is one of SHINee's Japanese songs. Early on SM realized if they wanted to really make it big in Japan that their artists needed to embrace the Japanese culture and they needed to be able to show their dedication to learning the language, etc. That is why BoA studied Japanese at such a young age and why SM had her living there for extended periods of time when she was just a teenager starting out. And ever since then, if SM has a group or sub-unit that they want to focus on the Japanese market, they emphasis the importance of the members being fluent in Japanese and really getting to know the Japanese culture. That is why BoA, TVXQ, SHINee, EXO-CBX, and Super Junior-D&E, among others, are now fluent or proficient in Japanese. And it's one of the reasons why these groups/artists are so popular in Japan.

Welcome to the duality that is Taemin. "Think of You" is the perfect example of what makes Taemin special. This is the Taemin you will see if you get to know him off stage. He is cute and innocent and a little shy. This is just Taemin being Taemin. What you saw is the definition of SHINee's maknae, and is exactly why he gets away with so much in SHINee. When around the other members of SHINee he plays up being the baby, and they pretty much will do anything he asks. He knows how to be cute when he wants something, but he hates it when someone asks him to be cute. LOL. You now have a glimpse of the other side of Taemin and are discovering what makes him so lovable. :D Yes, "Think of You" is a special fan tribute song and it's just Taemin's way of giving love back to his fans. The whole video was filmed with the intent to create this MV, it's all part of the theme of the song. It is meant to have more of a documentary-style look and it was intended to feel more intimate like we were just hanging out and following him around for the day. The song is written by him and it's about asking fans to continue to support and love him and it talks about how he looks to us to embrace him and giving him comfort, especially in those moments when he feels lonely and sad, and in turn he wants us to feel like we have his love and support when we are feeling down and alone. You might notice -- from the setting of this video and Taemin's blond hair -- that "Think of You" was filmed in the same location, at the same time as "2 Kids", which was shot in Paris in February last year. They were both shot in between promotional activities while he was on tour with SuperM. Taemin never stops. Fun fact: He has released at least one song (Usually way more than just one) or album every year since SHINee's debut in 2008, either as part of SHINee, as a member of a project group or as a solo artist.

This is how much Taemin affects me. When I first watched "Just Me And You" during his Beyond Live, by the time he was able to move on to the next song I was crying because it was so heartbreakingly beautiful. Every single time I watch it, and I have watched it a lot, the beauty in his artistry still makes me cry. He really is art personified and he really deserves all the good in the world. Also, We DO and Super Star were the happy anthems that we needed from both groups this year. Whenever I listen to both of them, I can't help but smile and dance along.

I see "Advice" as a continuation of the themes within Taemin's Never Gonna Dance Again album trilogy -- "2 Kids," "Criminal" and "Idea." With "Criminal" and "Idea," Taemin talks about being involved in a toxic relationship -- not necessarily a romantic relationship, but a metaphor for his relationship with fame -- in which he agrees to be manipulated almost to the point of being destroyed in order to become the artist we see today. But in the end of "Idea" we see him become free from the box everyone wants to put him in and he comes to terms with his role as an idol. He has now formed his own "Idea" about himself and what it means to be an idol, etc. As Taemin explained during his VLive event for "Advice", "Advice" is like the end to the first chapter in his life, and the beginning of his second chapter, which will be after he completes his military service. (He enlisted May 30 and he will be on hiatus for the next 18 months as he fulfills his duty to his country.) The song seems to be his way of saying I am done caring to everyone who judged him and all those haters who spread rumors and misinformation about him. "Advice" is showing that he is now free and confident to be himself, breaking stereotypes and now only listening to himself. In "Advice" he's basically saying, "Stop trying to put me in a box, in which I'll never fit in." He is also speaking to everyone that says he's getting old, that he's just a Michael Jackson wannabe that doesn't sell a lot of albums because he tries too hard to be edgy, etc. He's rebelling against all those people who are constantly advising him to make more mainstream music or to follow the traditional Kpop idol style in order to boost his sales and his popularity. However, as Taemin is making clear in "Advice," that is not who he is and he will never be "normal" or "mainstream" and he is OK with that. In the scenes where you see him covered in ink, I think that is supposed to be him showing everyone how he is no longer the "unstained," cute maknae everyone wants to think of him as. This song was specifically designed to not be like anything he has ever done before. He plays the piano, he raps, he shows off his falsetto notes, etc. which is different than what we often hear and see from him. He intentionally used this song to prove that he isn't one type of singer. People often think of Taemin as a sultry vocalist that sings in a breathy comfortable less dynamic style. So, with this song he wants to prove to everyone that he can be unpredictable and try new things. Yet again, you can't put him in a box or tell him who to be. Everything you see in this MV is 100% Taemin. Everything that Taemin's haters like to point out about him and say are reasons why he shouldn't be held to such high esteem, I find completely ridiculous. I don't think that anyone who actually knows him would ever say he has played it safe at anytime in his career. If you think he is only one dimensional, and that he is trying to be anything other than himself, then you really don't know Taemin. Everything he does is different, out there and definitely not safe. It's always uniquely Taemin, and he couldn't do it any other way. Also, because Taemin is a member of SHINee, none of his songs are ever like anything you have every heard or seen before from him. It will always have a new beat, style and sound. As SM's experimental boy group, SHINee is meant to be the first and they are expected to set the trend, and that includes the members' solo work. With every new song Taemin produces it's expected to be different than the last, so you will never hear the same style or sound from him in any of his songs, even on the same album, and yet, it still will be uniquely Taemin-like. Which is another example of how you can never put him in a box or expect anything from him. :D Another theme in "Advice" is about how Taemin is embracing his androgynous side -- but on his own terms -- which I think is a continuation of the message in his "Move" MV. Early in his career when Taemin was growing up in SHINee he was known for his feminine look. The industry thought it was novel and cute to dress Taemin up as a girl and play up his feminine features. It took him a long time to accept that he was known for his looks and to come to terms with the fact that everyone thought of him as a "pretty boy," etc. So, at this point in his career he is making a statement about how he has decided to be himself and no longer care what people think. Music is art and art has no gender. So, that is why in "Advice" you see him wearing hair extensions, fishnets and women's Supreme sports wear, etc. But if you notice, his choreography is very fast paced and sharp which is hyper masculine -- a complete contrast to the "feminine" image people want to give him. You also see him wearing makeup, but it's smeared on his face, as if to say, "people may think of me as a 'Pretty Boy,' but I don't care about looking pretty." In the lyrics he is saying, "It's creepy how people are always looking to cause drama, so stop trying to create scandals in my life that don't really exist. It's all just stories you make up." He's tired of all those people who seem to look for reasons to cause drama, where none really exists. Where he says "floppy" in the lyrics, I think he's talking about knowing about or hearing firsthand the things people are saying about him, but he is choosing not to pay attention to them because what they're saying is flopping or doesn't hold any weight or have any substance, etc. "Advice" just proves that everytime people try to put Taemin in a box he destroys it and keeps coming back with something more unique and never seen before. I interpret the "One (piece of ) Advice" he is talking about in the lyrics as a reference to the advice he keeps being given about being more mainstream, but he's saying, "stop trying to make me conform to the image you have in your head of who I should be and what I should do" -- in other words, take all that time and effort you have been using to come up with ways to talk about how I don't fit in, etc. and put it to better use. "Follow my own advice" and do something original for once. As a devout Catholic, Taemin often uses Biblical references and metaphors in his songs and MVs. And the crucifixion pose at the end of "Advice" is sort of a signature pose for him. I interpret it to be like he is saying, "And that is the end, this is my final word, take it or leave it, but don't doubt me. I have gave it my all and laid everything I had out there for you," etc. If you are impressed with Taemin's dancing in this MV, just wait until you see him dance live. You will be even more blown away. As I said, Taemin is on a whole other level.

@@mjj1434 Yes, you are right. But Taemin is not copying or trying to look like MJ. Just because MJ has a similar pose, doesn't mean Taemin is copying him. As you point out, MJ made that pose for the same type of reasons I mentioned as reasons why Taemin did it. 😀 However, I don't think Taemin was thinking of MJ when he did it. As mentioned, when Taemin does it, it's supposed to be a symbol of the message Taemin is trying to portray within the song. Michael Jackson also used that pose as a subtle reference to faith and respect, etc. It's much more likely that they are similar poses because they both are trying to convey similar messages, rather than Taemin using it because MJ did it. People never say MJ was copying anyone, even though he borrowed a lot of dance moves and styles from artists, singers and dancers who came before him. So why does everything Taemin does have to automatically mean he is trying to be like MJ? Taemin is just being himself. Taemin's nickname as the Korean Michael Jackson isn't just because his dancing is the same, it's because Taemin has a similar aura, stage presence and legendary status as what MJ was known for. It's used to describe that feeling you get when Taemin commands the stage and owns every performance. Nothing that has ever been done in the history of music and dance can ever be 100% unique because the idea always comes from something that was done before. And I challenge anyone to find a single dancer or artist that doesn't use elements in their music or dance that reminds them of something MJ has done, because MJ has influenced the entire industry. 😉 But before MJ did it, he was being influenced by others, which means what he did was take styles and ideas from people he respected and used that to create his own style. Therefore, MJ's dancing should remind you of those that came before him because he was borrowing elements from them as well.
