The reason why the audience screams so loud and Onew cries during this performance of "Rainy Blue" is because this was Onew's first solo performance since having vocal surgery. It was a really scary surgery because there was no guarantee that he would ever be able to sing again, let along at the same quality as he did before the surgery. Onew spent about 3 months after his surgery not being able to speak at all in order to give his vocal cords time to heal and then he had to learn to sing all over again. This performance was proof to himself and the fans that he could still do it and that nothing had changed. ("Rainy Blue" is a cover of a Japanese song, which Onew has kind of made famous internationally. Onew is singing in Japanese. It was wrote by a Japanese singer/songwriter who also had the same surgery as Onew, but unfortunately, the songwriter's surgery didn't go as well as Onew's and the songwriter was never able to sing again. ) And, yes, Taemin plays the piano, and it's performances like this where he gets the nickname as our eternal maknae vampire. :D Some of the time. In certain performances and MVs the way Taemin is dressed and the whole aesthetic of the video or stage, such as in this "Rain Blue" performance, really does give off vampire vibes. One of the reasons why Key chose to come up with funny answers for that questionnaire is the fact that this Weekly Idol episode was part of their 10th anniversary promotions and so they have been on the show many times and had to fill out that same questionnaire almost every time, and they have answered those same questions dozens of more times for other variety shows. So, after that many years, it has become boring just to give a straight answer. They often try to come up with clever and funny answers to give them things to talk about and to create comedic moments in the show. What's particularity notable about the fact that Key said he is from New York, is the fact that he is fluent in English -- almost to the point you would think he is a native speaker. So, if you didn't know him, you might think he really was from New York. The amazing thing about Key's high note in "Like a Fire" is that if you listen to the original version on their album, he doesn't have a high note in that song. But during that performance, which is from their SHINee World Concert III (SWC3) in Seoul, he, out of nowhere, decided he wanted to add a high note. It's almost as if he decided he wanted to try and outdo Jonghyun who is the group's high note master and the one who has the high note right before Key in the song. :D That's Key's classic diva attitude. One slight error in this guide: Minho is actually the MAIN rapper of the group and Key is a sub-rapper. (To say Minho is the second rapper makes it sound like he isn't the one that raps the majority of the time in SHINee's songs.) Minho is credited with writing almost all of his rap sections in SHINee songs, which is proof that he is the main rapper. Minho will have songwriting credits on almost every one of SHINee's songs because he wrote the rap section. Also, Minho more than sings SOMEtimes, he sings just about as much as he raps in SHINee songs. He has the deepest voice out of all the members -- which is why he was made the main rapper -- so SHINee's songs don't often highlight his singing in the same way as the other members, but he is part of all of SHINee's harmonies. Also, by virtue of the fact that he is part of SM, means he also has an amazing voice. When you really get to know SHINee, you will see Minho has just as much vocal range as the rest of the members, and that is why SHINee's five-part harmonies are so outstanding. That is also Minho's classic iconic laugh. He laughs with his whole being and he lights up the room while doing it. In that same clip, Jonghyun fell down because, if you see that full clip, you will see that Minho was spraying water with a spray bottle and the floor was all wet. Before Jonghyun walked in the room the other members were playing around sort of making fun of a commercial they did for a Japanese ramen noodle company where they were each given a different dance move that they used to crush the noodles. However, Taemin and Onew are the ones that have most often been tapped to fill Jonghyun's parts in most of their old songs, and even the parts that I think would have been his parts in their new songs. Taemin learned how to be a singer from Jonghyun, so his voice and vocal range is most like Jonghyun's, that is why he is the one to fill in for him most often. SHINee's cover of Lady Gaga's "Just dance" was a special stage at a KBS award show in 2010. If you notice, that last clip of SHINee playing charades, and Taemin trying to guess "suitcase," was at a fan meeting in Japan. So, they were all speaking Japanese. As you can see, SHINee are all fluent in Japanese. They are just as popular as Japanese artists as they are Kpop artists. Most Japanese people don't even consider them foreign artists. SHINee debuted as Japanese artists in 2011 and they spend about 50% of their career in Japan doing events and concerts, etc. For every Korean album SHINee also has a Japanese album, but their songs aren't just remakes of their Korean songs, the majority of their Japanese songs are exclusively in Japanese. And that also includes Taemin's solo career -- for every Korean solo album, he usually follows it up with a Japanese album, as well. And yes, Obama actually talked about following SHINee at a press conference while he was president of the United States. That clip is 100% real. This Guide video was made in 2018, so to update the information, yes the other members of SHINee -- Onew, Key and Minho -- now also have solo careers. Onew and Key had their solo debut right before they went off to the military in 2018 and they both have solo albums. Minho also released his first solo single "I'm Home" that same year, right before he enlisted in the military as well. As you discovered, SHINee are known for their live vocals and amazing dancing. They are known as CD-quality singers because they sound just as good live, if not better, than they do recorded. SHINee always sings live. The ONLY thing they are not good at is lip syncing so they avoid it at all costs, so when you hear SHINee singing 95% of the time it will be live. It's a running joke between the fans and the members that when SHINee lip syncs you can tell because it's very obvious. Yes, over the years they have become better at lip syncing then they used to be, but now they have gained the reputation as the group that always sings live, so unless they are required to lip sync for a specific reason, SHINee will always sing live. They have trained their entire career to be able to sing live and always sound flawless while performing extremely complex choreography. SHINee set the standard. That is why they are so highly respected among their peers. It is literally referred to as the SHINee standard. It's the standard all other groups strive to reach. You really should check out some of their live concert performances because their stages are like none other. Their concerts last 3 to 4 hours straight and they perform nonstop and never sound out of tune or out of breath. They are also one of the best dancers in Kpop and they have some of the best harmonies you will ever hear. You know EXO, so you know how good of vocalists they are, well, the members of SHINee actually were mentors to a lot of the EXO members and they helped coach them in their singing. The members of EXO and the members of SHINee are all around the same age and they were all part of the same trainee classes together and they even lived together as trainees, and, yet, SHINee debuted 4 years before EXO, so that just goes to show you a little bit of what makes SHINee so amazing and why they are considered legends. As you may know, Suho was originally training to be a member of SHINee, so they are extremely close -- especially Minho and Suho.

A lot of people seem to shy away or are afraid when talking about Jonghyun because of his passing but that's the opposite of what we want. We want people to continue to talk about him, his music, his legacy and all the things he did during his time so his name can be remembered for a long time. I'm sure that's what every Shawols and SHINee wants. Also Jonghyun had 2 songs with Taeyeon, the other one is Breath which is from SM the ballad(it's an SM subunit basically). They're really close and Taeyeon calls him her "boyfriend song" since they've sang with each other a few times and they bonded through music toom. Jonghyun and Onew are the main vocalists of SHINee with Key as a lead vocalist. Taemin didn't actually have a vocal position when they debuted because he really wasn't that good when it comes to singing lol but his growth as a vocalist was exponential and since his improvement he has taken a bigger role as a vocalist in SHINee. Looking forward to your journey with SHINee. SHINee is a very important group for kpop and is considered as one of the first innovative groups because of their music with fx. They basically started the experimental wave in kpop.

Jonghyun used to help Taemin to learn singing and Taemin's breathy techniques are similar to Jonghyun's. Onew and Key's voices are too different and unique to give that Jonghyun vibe. Probably it's surprising, but I'd say Taemin takes a bit more of Jonghyun's part. Watching their MVs, you will notice that Taemin and Jonghyun's parts are often next to each other.

Btw after Jonghyun, the other members covered his parts, but it was mostly Taemin covering the high notes. Initally during their earlier years, Taemin's vocals weren't very stable yet that some even said he was tone deaf. Jonghyun was the one who helped in training him and other members were also backing him up on vocals. Basically SHINee raised up Taemin. Key was even cooking his breakfast and ironed his school uniform. They also send him to school and even fetch him.

So originally, Onew and Jonghyun were both considered group's main vocalists, and Key was the lead vocalist and rapper. At that time Taemin was really young and his talent for dance was emphasized way more, so at the beginning of SHINee career, he did not get many lines. As time was going, with more training and guidance under Onew and Jonghyun, Taemin actually improved his vocal techniques and just, in general, became a better vocalist and started to get more lines. If you listen to earlier music and compare it with the newer tracks, you can also notice that Taemin's voice sort of resembles Jonghyun's (not sure whether it is the technique or just their timbres), so sometimes Jonghyun was called as Taemin's vocal teacher ahaha... So to answer your question, who took over the parts after Jonghyuh passed away, it was Taemin. Because Onew and Key always had a decent amount of lines as main and lead vocalists respectively, and if you'll start reacting to SHINee from the very beginning, you will notice that usually, they had pretty fair line distribution among 3 vocalists, and later on when Taemin improved a lot, the distribution of lines changed a little bit ahahaha

As far as who "took over" for Jonghyun, it was most probably Taemin. He kind of mentored/helped some of his hoobaes may it be vocally (like Taemin) or in songwriting. And you can notice that when it was just four of them, Taemin took most of his parts, with some going to Onew or Key. Their tone and technique were closest to each other among the members. And you can really tell that Taemin stepped it up having to cover for what Jong usually had to do. Also as you listen to their songs, you can tell which parts would probably go to Jonghyun if he was still with us. Jonghyun was also THE biggest Taemin fan. He was so so sweet when Taemin started promoting solo.

Jonghyun wrote "breath" for Lee hi, and this song was also awesome. Taeyeon cried a lot when Lee Hi sang this song in 2018 Golden Disk Awards( the special stage for SHINee Jonghyun). By the way, there was also a collaboration song with Taeyeon and Jonghyun called "breath".

Jonghyun was really close with Yeri so it really took a huge toll to Yeri when he passed away. When he passed away it was around during Year End Award shows of MBC, SBS and KBS where every idols performed, Yeri was looking sad and down but knetizens took it in a bad way that she's not being "professional". An 18 year old Yeri was "bashed" for mourning the loss her close oppa, it was just less than a week when it happened they wouldn't let a teenager mourn and breathe. Yeri even cried during an ending stage but i'm glad she have Twice Nayeon, Blackpink, AKMU Suhyun and RV unnies who comforted and cover her from cameras that night. 😭 My thought is knetizens are really one of the reasons why idols choose that path to get away with their problems. It's just too sad that idols comforted us with their songs but we couldn't do the same thing to them. Anyway I just really miss Jonghyun and i just know he's in the place where he can be much happier now

Jonghyun was the main vocalist of shinee, he had a prominent solo career as well, Taemin was simlar in range to Jonghyun and took over some parts, while Onew actually took vocal lessons to meet the demands of jonghyun's higher vocal parts in songs. Taemin and Onew now split the main vocal position and did well to compensate on their tour in 2018 and for the group's future releases.

Yep, Taeyeon and Jonghyun had some collaborations like Lonely, which was composed and written by Jonghyun with Taeyeon especially in mind to sing it with him, and Breath, a song that is part of a project called SM The Ballad, where SM put together their best vocalists like them, Chen and Kyuhyun from Super Junior together and produce an album. Jjong and her became pretty close friends in recent years and they were honestly the cutest and most talent pair ever! So precious those two. Tiny but mighty! :3

SHINee is such a unique group with such a strong personality both collective and individually. So full of talent and humor! And quite unique in kpop. Absolute princes! In Shinee, just as EXO (hardcore EXO L here) there’s just so much to enjoy! As in music, I would recommend “Marry to the Music”, “1 of 1”, “Feel Good” (there’s no MV but not a song to miss ever!) “”Excuse me Miss” LIVE ( a must pleaaase ❤️, ugh! They have such amazing concert live stages!!!) and well, I think in Taemin’s solo music you already started and will continue enjoying more! For Taemin I would recommend his solo debut “Danger” ,” WANT”, “Goodbye” (Japanese track”). And for Jonghyun ugh! As the genius musician and songwriter he was, I don’t even know where to get started, honestly. But “End of a Day” is a strong recommendation. Must heard with lyrics. That song has been what keeps a lot of us just going through, keep going. You’ll enjoy his posthumous album too! Though maybe you’ll want to react to that one when you’re a bit more familiarized in his music, style and personality ^^ ugh that album is everything. Jonghyun was the Main Vocalist... If you watch Shinee’s From Now On Concert from 2018, Taemin stepped up to cover most of Jonghyun’s parts, which is so appropriate since Jonghyun really helped him with his vocal training in the early years. Unrelated (maybe): Jonghyun gifted Taemin a song called Already (which I love- Jonghyun sings the backing vocals with Taemin on the track). When they would ask Taemin to perform it live he would say ask Jonghyun Hyung to sing it. The key’s too high and they already lowered it for Taemin (this is from a radio interview) but Taemin did perform it live after Jonghyun’s passing and absolutely slayed it with Jong still on the backing track 💎💎💎💎💎

Jonghyun’s vocals is reallyyyy good, I would say one of the most unique and powerful vocals out there. He was part of SM’s subunit vocal group called “SM The Ballad” with other SM singers too! Highly recommended to check out :)

I find it funny how you mention their music sounds European, because a lot of SHINee's producers are European 🤣🤣🤣 I will also like to welcome you to our Shawol family ^^ thank you for being so respectful about Jonghyun like you said, some new guides don't include him. Still, I personally think and have seen most Shawols refer to him like normal like we used to do when he was still with us because that makes us comfortable and like we are including him. There is definitely a visible line between being respectful and just overdoing it (thank god you're not like that), like when people keep commenting or saying "R.I.P" with everything shinee related. That annoys some of us because Jonghyun was much more than just his depression. He was an artist that inspired us and understood us, more than anything, Shawols want him to be remembered as the great artist, person, friend, brother, and son he was.

I’m so happy you finally delved into SHINee! They’ve got some really good music and their b-sides are just amazing! However, you can’t appreciate SHINee all the way if you don’t watch some of their stage performances because they were known as one of the best stage performers and they really love the stage. As Sooyoung from Girls Generation (same girl group with Taeyeon) said, “they always perform/dance as if it is their last performance.” Some stage performance to watch: Excuse Me Miss, Y Si Fuerra Ella, Like a Fire, Rainy Blue, Nessun Dorma, Woof Woof, Sherlock (SW4 Ver), Stranger, Everybody (Tokyo Dome), End of a Day (Vlive) and more! These 2 are the ones where you need your thirst pack for lol : Dynamite (SW4) and Born to Shine (Tokyo Dome). If there is any I missed fellow Shawols, please comment below!

WELCOME TO SHINEE WORLD!! The Marge costume is from annual SMTOWN Halloween party where SM idols dress up and they give prizes for the first 3. Key got the prize once which was a trip to overseas with accomodation and everything. He was Voldemort once you should check them out too. SHINee is definitely a chaotic group with a lot of fun. You should check out their Weekly Idol and Knowing Brothers episodes to get to know them better. There is an old show called One Fine Day where they all go to different places in the world to have a holiday by themselves. Key and Minho end up going to the same place surprisingly haha Key is the best in English and as a personal opinion Taemin is the best in Japenese. He also has a lot of Japanese solo albums and concert tours. Onew can hold a high note for more than 40 seconds you should check that out too. Onew, Key and Minho are successful actors and Taemin had some acting experience as well. They all were casted as a part of musicals during their careers. Taemin was prohibited from his vocal lessons and they called him a tone deaf. Onew helped him a lot to practice his vocals secretly and now here he is with his high notes. They all have solo albums which shows their different colours. Taemin can play piano quite well and is one of the best dancers in Kpop. SHINee concerts are also no joke. 2014 I'm Your Boy and SHINee World Concert 4 and 5 are to die for. Jonghyun is not with us anymore unfortunately but his music is still with us. He wrote a lot of songs for his solo albums, for SHINee, for Taemin and other artists such as IU, EXO and Lee Hi. Taemin got a lot of the vocal parts but other members also got some of his parts in the concerts. Minho is a competitive guy who hates losing to people. He is still acting. Him, Key and Onew have already finished their military services and now they are back as a full group. Hope this long comment helps you on your journey of becoming a shawol!

you did get all of the members right at the beginning! the melania trump clip is funny because she thought the girls were fangirling over her but it was because of minho! shinee and exo both have had to attend a lot of official events on behalf of their country and that was one of them. key and onew also have solo careers and albums, and minho has a solo single. jonghyun was the main vocalist of shinee but now onew and taemin and key both kind of now do a lot more of those more vocal parts. the shinee boys are very close with snsd too!

Jonghyun actually write a song which is 'Lonely' it's a duet song with Taeyeon. He said that he's thinking of Taeyeon while writing that song because taeyeon is fighting with depression like him. They are very close friends and when Jonghyun decided to end his life people got worried about Taeyeon since they both experiencing the same thing. After his death Taeyeon made a promise to her fans that she will never go that far and she will sing for a long long time. Their friendship is one of the best friendships that we will never see again.

Jonghyun had the most unique voice. I surprised myself by tearing up at his bio. After his death, the four performed standing in spotlights and singing. The mic in the middle was empty but had a spotlight on it. Minho has been in several movies. One of his best is Hwarang. One of his co stars is V from BTS.

Yay, glad you're getting more into SHINee! Jonghyun and Onew were the 2 lead singers of the group (in typical SM fashion, they always have 2 vocalists). Key was often the 3rd in line for vocals, while Minho did rap. Fun fact: Taemin has said that he has no vocals on their debut song Replay at all, and it's amazing to see how hard he has worked to become the vocalist he is today. To answer your question, I believe they've pushed Taemin into the lead vocalist role with Onew, as he often is the one to cover Jonghyun's parts nowadays.

JongHyun was one of the best vocalist in the Kpop industry, one of the first vocal stars of SM Ent., back in the days, when SM gathered their main vocalists for special concerts, he was the one who supported the younger ones, like Chen. He always encouraging them to learn more to develop his talent and flattering them. His main objective was to share his music and he made it. A great person with a good heart, an example to follow for many artists.

My SHINee bias is Jonghyun especially when he sang Incomplete by Sisqo. I really love SHINee since 2009. I even included them in the acknowledgement of my undergraduate thesis way back 2010. SHINee was my first group, my introductory group to Kpop back in 2009 and they have a special place in my heart. They are all very talented and indeed Jonghyun was a genius. He was always criticized for various reasons such as his somewhat explosive personality. At his farewell with his sister he asked to tell her that he did well, you’ll see the "Jonghyun, you did well" often. He is an angel and always was. We must love the art that left us. Jonghyun had a lot of friends. Taeyeon, Lee Hi and IU were some close ones. He wrote songs for all of them. Lee Hi’s breathe was a song that he wrote about having a hard time and being able to breathe - she performed it at his memorial show and honestly I dunno how she did it. At first, we all thought it would be Taemin because other than Jonghyun, he would sometimes be the one in the past to do the main high notes. Everyone in the group has solo music (except Minho, he only has an SM Station but he's focused more on acting and he's great). I think you'll get to know them more with their solos, their individual colors are well represented there. After the video: I feel like you are going to really enjoy SHINee's B sides. They have such a big variety there is a little bit for everyone's taste. Jonghyun did do a lot of the higher register parts and was the main vocalist. When it was decided that they would continue on as 4, but forever 5, Onew stepped into the role as main vocalist. Jonghyun was my first ever bias and part of my intro into kpop.
