I've spent too much time on a scaffold cutting each piece, so I decided to use my brain a little and now I can cut the complete time of shingling a gable almost in half. Here's my tips. Music by Rodrigo Y Gabriela: Triveni

Thanks for posting this, started a job with 8 gables to shingle. Did 2 last week and found it painfully slow cutting on the scaffold. Very helpful and this will really speed up the work.

What side spacing would you recommend. The shingles will be pre sealed on all sides.

I'm not sure what you are meaning? Between each shingle? If so... I typically go random, from 1/8" to 1/4". In my opinion shingles aren't supposed to be perfect, or should I say I think they look better not perfect. Clean yes but not perfect. Also these cedar shingles I am using aren't true to anything as I mentioned in video so you will never achieve 1/4" gap at top and bottom. Hope that helps

What kind of nails you use on cedar shingles. Glad to see even the pros hit thier fingers.

Galvanized crown staples. I do tend to get my fingers smashed every now and then, but like this time it was a truss that smashed my finger not my hammer

Does that 5 hrs include the prep time
@breyconstruction38994 жыл бұрын
All prep outside yes, including setup and move of scaffolding. Setting up the saw and plywood only took 2 minutes

Beast mode. Although not a fan of 1 inch row. Should keep them all same. Still is great video

Thanks. I have installed shingles many different ways, this being the most efficient and easiest way. As far as design, I'm a builder not designer and have no favor unless it compromises the build in any way.

@@breyconstruction3899 regardless was a great video. Took a few tries to figure it our at first like why you started at top and what not. After about half an hr I figured out your method and was flowing with it. Excited to show my crew this monday. Thanks again my friend

Not liking the six row from the bottom. Looks odd with that row peeping out there.

agreed. what's going on there?

@@afternaphair this was requested from the homeowner, I don't necessarily hate it but I also am not specifically fond of it. Homeowner loved it though

@@breyconstruction3899 well the homeowner is the boss. Even though I don’t love that specific look, you did a beautiful job.

As in: you can't keep up? Or I work too fast? I can give more explanation if needed, let me know.

@@breyconstruction3899 Yes, I am a blockhead carpenter. I think the music is good but maybe a little too distracting. Your video is good just need more explaining in the cutting. I didn't have a saw other than skill saw. Just think in terms of your idiot audience who only uses a saw once every 5 years.
