Okay, finished. Wonderful walkthrough and you sound very fair in your review! I could easily imagine myself using these in my sketchbooks where I don’t layer much, if I had PWC lying around anyways, but I don’t really need more paints, and they don’t at all call to me like RS paints do. The spread looks gorgeous, though, and ShinHan PWC was definitely on my list back when I started collecting watercolours about two years ago. It just so happened that an extremely kind soul sent me a brand new White Nights set back then.

Thank you very much Oto. I've wondered a long time about this brand since they are very affordable where I am. I glaze a lot so it's not for me. I have Paul Ruben tube set and think I'll stick with it as my bright set. Thank you so much for your wonderful in depth reviews ! Looking forward to the QOR reviews. Take care. Hope you are well.💜

Love your analysis, Oto! What I would miss in this Set is a proper Magenta/Quin Rose color, as well as a Neutral Tint and/or Payne's Grey. For my taste, there are too many oranges, and I totally agree with you on the cool red side - why three of them, out of which two are not light-fast? I would rather add a Green Earth kind of colour and a Cobalt Turquoise and leave out the light green, which can be mixed easily.

I have this set and it's my favorite absolutely among the top tier brands (Daniel Smith, etc). It' is my workhorse. My style is abstract landscapes with bold color transitions and expressive strokes, without much layering.

It's so weird that all the colors have that shiny masstone. Not one of my favorite features in paints either. I say we use the Opera for cool red! Neither a lightfast so Let's GO! XD

Hello, love your paint review videos! I checked the paper you used for the Shinhan PWC swatches and it's a cellulose paper with "excellent colour lifting abilities." I think most Asian watercolors can be lifted easily, so using a paper where it's easy to lift will not benefit the paints. Also, it seems like the pairing of Asian watercolor paper + Shinhan PWC works best because papers like Shizen and Baohong locks the paint in once dry. I've seen many Asian watercolorists use Baohong and Shinhan with no issue in layering. I wish you could've done some example swatches on a different paper to see if they performed better.

Thanks for this helpful comment! I have Boahong student and artist grade watercolor blocks as well as my large Arches blocks (all 100% cotton papers) and have had very lovely results with these paints!

THE QOR SERIES IS COMMING! 🤩🧨🎇 Okay, sorry for shouting 🙈 I'm so EXCITED! 😄 And I really appreciate that you always mention when you notice paints being shiny in masstone, thank you for that! I cannot stand it. I love intense colours and get so sad when I discover an unwanted sheen. That's one reason I love M. Graham and dislike Rembrandt (the few I have tried so far in both brands.) Oh! And I just tested a few colours from Rosa Gallery and am absolutely blown away! They are SO affordable and stunning. The Magenta Rose, PR122, is the most bright and intense I have seen, as far as I can remember (with only a slight shine in the most intense masstone), I highly recommend trying it. Also the Golden Yellow (PY110) and Blue Indanthrene (PB60) are just beautiful. I generally use and love M. Graham PB60, and this one almost rivals it! They are about 2€ per full pan and 3€ per 10ml tube.

@@starr-starr Right!? ☺️ I hope you will like it! I also tried the Madder Rose (PV19, PR254), Flame Red (PO73) and Naples Rose (PW6, PR101) and they are all beautiful.

Thank you for your continued color series. I am also an academic refugee--art historian. So I know color theory, the concept of warm and cool colors, split primaries, etc. but my brain will just not accept ultramarine blue as a "warm" blue. It always screams at me "It's BLUE! Blue is the ultimate cool color." Maybe someday I can get those brain cells to settle down. 😂

Thanks Oto, this series was super helpful!💗 I've wondered about these paints, and now I know for sure that they're not for me. Shine in wc's drives me crazy..😳 lol Hopefully after they see this very well-rounded and in-depth review you've done, they'll take some points of critique into consideration and make improvements in their line. Well done!👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼

They needlessly shoot themselves in the foot by basing their reds so much on PR83. It's like they are obsessed with... I don't know, it's senseless. If it was a matter of including one old alizarin for the fans, totally fine- there should always be a PR83 included. But they make it into a huge black hole that you have to try hard to avoid. Put me right off, otherwise these are interesting and I'd have seriously got some, because why not. Well here's why not: alizarin insanity. Pity.

Thank you, Oto!😊🦩🌺. When you release a new video I get a cuppa and sit down to enjoy. I’m never disappointed 🥰. Some PWC colors interest me, such as Rose Madder (a color I can never resist), and Prussian Blue (also, cannot resist), which here is unremarkable. Guess I like to live on the edge of lightfastness, lol. And YES! QOR! QOR! QOR! I feel like a kid waiting for dinner - instead of fork and spoon it’s brush and paper 😂! I have the 24 set and am thinking of focusing on collecting Qor instead of DS for awhile. The recent brew hahah has made me look elsewhere for now … and it’s been a great experience, discovering new brands. Qor was the first professional set I used after rediscovering watercolor after a long time. Kind of like getting thrown into the deep end of the pool. They’re in a class all their own, and how they play with others can be remarkable, or remarkably frustrating. Ok, please stop reading and start painting. Thanks again!🥰🌺
