His sword's true shape is the chains and its main ability is to return him back to life as long as he has reiatsu, by binding him together with the chains. Not possible. Aizen is extremely powerful, and cunning. Even if we say the shinigamies are out, and so they are safe... none could even scratch Aizen. Gin's lethal trick only works if his guard is down, and even that was too late with the hougyoku fusion's hax. Let's say in Karakura battle, on the visored's arrival, after the chitchat, Hachi teleports the goodguys out, and Shinji alone goes bankai: As per inended, everyone goes berserk. Aizen wuickly deduces that if he can't tell who is friend and who is enemy, that simply means everyone is enemy. The endresult is Aizen soloing his own army and Shinji. The 4 pillars are destroyed, real Karakura returns, Aizen can make the OuKen (King's Key), and storm the Royal Guard once his hougyoku fusion complete. Without Gin's betrayal and Ichigo's sufficient level of challenge this way, Aizen can't exploit the Hougyoku boosts (the whole reason he needed Ichigo, and didn't shikai KO him too), and with his post chrysalis 1st fusion form Ichibe absolutely destroys him. With Aizen and the Gotei 13 radically weaker and most importantly Ichigo slain by a very bored and dissappinted Aizen, Yhwach's invasion can waltz through Soul Society barely braking a sweat. Not the ideal results.

@@themrmezbah Not really. Strong opponents can have strong allies. Gin _would_ have killed Aizen if it wasn't for the Hogyoku wanting to keep him alive. But at the beginning of the fight in Fake Karakura (the circumstances - if Shinji would have been set up to just fight him in Bankai from when he arrived) Aizen wasn't there yet in terms of fusion/evolution. Having Gin attack him then could have had a very different turn for Aizen. It also makes Aizen think that Shinji is a trusted ally of his. So Aizen won't try to fight Shinji - if anything he'd try to protect him. So that's a first step: not getting killed by Aizen. And then, depending on how things play out, there will be opportunities to try and get the upperhand through the "false friendship". Not guaranteed that there'll be an opening or an opportunity. But looking for it is part of the Bankai. Shinji will know how to use it. And another thing people seem to overlook: it doesn't _only_ reverse "the sense of ally and foe" and reverses all kinds of stuff - just like the Shikai - and more. So regardless of who you see as ally or foe, doing anything while in his AOE - let alone fighting - becomes _really_ tough. And *on top of that* you get confused about who your allies and foes are. This Bankai creates absolute chaos that wreaks havoc on its own Obviously not a guaranteed win for Shinji. But neither for Aizen. Same as Kubo said with Shunsui. Kubo said Shunsui would have had a chance against Aizen, if he had used his Bankai. Pretty much same could be said about Shinji. There are 6 Shinigami (excluding zero squad and mugetsu) who would have a chance against Aizen: Yamamoto Genryuusai, Kyoraku Shunsui, Zaraki Kenpachi, Hirako Shinji, Ichimaru Gin and Azashiro Soya.

Easy, its just overspecialised, just as his Shikai is. He is one of the best at doing a few things, but when outside of his area of speciality he is not that great. Problem is that there are people like Aizen out there, who are better than him at doing the same things, while also being much more versatile.

Second, there is a possibility that he could just put himself under an opposite illusion with Kyoka Suigetsu. Third, to be able to fuse with Hougyoku you need to have at least 10 times more spiritual energy than a regular captain class shinigami, and if you have way more reiatsu than your opponent then you can just shrug off their attacks like its nothing, even if these attacks have bullshit effects like Soi Fons 2 hit kill, or Barragans time aura thingy. So yeah, at least 3 probable reasons why Shinji would've most likely failed.

Honestly when you think about it, it's a pretty darn good Bankai. If he's faced with 2 or more enemies, he'll force them to kill each other with no effort to himself. He can theoretically kill an infinite number of enemies with it. Afterwards, he can 1v1 the remaining survivor, where he can simply revert back to shikai and duel them. If he has allies, they can run out of range, then come back to kill the 1 enemy left.

Kinda reminds me of Shunsui's bankai. While the gen2 headcaptain's deal with games/plays, Shinji's theme is inversion. Shikai is a precison tool that needs prowess to use but can be effective in various situations, bankai is a very situational high-risk/high-reward overclocked total realityF#CK.

Shinji’s bankai is really strong. Using this bankai, he can deal with any entire of enemy. The only downside is that he is not near anyone, but just because of such limitation doesn’t mean it’s weak. During the Quincy arc, Shinji’s bankai would be terribly effective at dealing with the invasion. Not only would the activation of his bankai counter the potential of his bankai being stolen, he can deal with large army of strong Quincy.

Shinji's Bankai is basically a one man army type of deal. Shinji has to be the first one to go to battle or be the very first line of defense against a group of enemies to make his bankai useful. But his status as a captain will always have his subordinates around him so not the ideal scenario. I really like his banka despite its limitations, it remind us that bankais are more varied than a simple transformation or final attack like we usually see. However i am interested to find out how wide is the range of his bankai.

this bankai is lit op if more than 1 enemy just tell them how your bankai works and they will have a infinity to think who is their enemy whose their allies

Episode 60, Isane claims that Aizen's zanpakuto is supposed to use mist to confuse enemies into attacking each other. Despite what Shinji said about Aizen not knowing about his zanpakuto in their fight, I'm starting to think Aizen-sama figured this out somehow and based the lie off of Shinji's Bankai.

Well, since we're speculating about it; there's really no telling what the Kura-town battle would end like because it's possible that bankai would've revealed Aizen, since it causes the actual people to fight each other; in a sense it may have made him visible to others so he can be fought by them, otherwise invisible characters would be immune to it, making it rather lame.. in a sense perhaps it would reset the battle field.. Although Aizen basic stats are OP, he can't kill all those captains with their kidos and full strengths with even Yamamoto there, if he's revealed to them. In one translation I watched, he stated after unleashing wonderweiss, that Yamamoto using his full strength could defeat him.. it seems there were boundaries to his abilities and how shinji's bankai would affect them, is unknown. But then perhaps also his own bankai would more than even the score.

He is cool in design and people like his personality but look at his history. Aizen tricked him like a major fool in turn back the pendulum. Aizen said his shikai power is child's play and made quick work of him in their fight. Then we have the quincy Bambietta who not even being that smart immediately realizes his shikai is not a threat if you use an omnidirectional attack and one shots him. After that he did nothing throughout the war. He is pretty lame honestly and that is actually by his showings.

Cylus O'Brady Agreed. His design and his chill personality are what makes him kinda cool, but my god, for the Vizard leader, and presumably, one of the stronger members, if not the strongest due to his leadership, dude has terrible showings. His only good showing was vs a Half dead Grimmjow with one arm. Thats like an adult man fighting a wounded dying puppy at that point. One shot by Bambi, trolled by Aizen, bodied by Gerard. He was introduced as a mysterious former captain who was supposed to be quite powerful, and ended up having worse showings than Izuru.

@@Jamestow23 you sound stupid, I agree that there are certain captains who use their bankai very frequently yes, but at least their bankai is somewhat useful/ & or gives them an immense powerboost. But Shinjis Bankai is completly underwhelming. A bankai is supposed to give you the edge over an enemy who gives you trouble while using shikai. What is shinji supposed to do against such an enemy with his stupid bankai?

From the fillers...a bit but Koga's Murmasa allowed him to actually summon zanpakto spirits and hypnotize them to his cause. Way stronger than Shinji's bankai power. I do recall he made allies fight each other through manipulation of their swords but they hadn't truly turn against each other.

I think his shikai may have been more than enough to prove his worth, that shikai in single situations be just as powerful to combat a decent bankai. This is just speculation though.

Problem with this Bankai is even if let's say he walked into the Sternritter base and activates it, he cannot get them to completely kill each other. The hollows completely killed each other because they are practically the same power level. If used on Sternritters, their power level is not the same, so in the end one person would survive, either being Gerard, Lille, Pernida, Haschwalt or Gremmy. And they can take care of Shinji afterwards.

Huh. His bankai is surprisingly simple, compared to the rumors. I wouldn't say his Shikai is stronger than his Bankai, though. Just a lot more situational. If he revealed his Shikai on anyone other than Aizen, I think Shinji would completely stomp them. He could've also solo'd Gin, Tousen, and all of Espada in the right circumstances with his Bankai. Also, let's stop comparing Aizen with Shinji (or with anyone else, really). They're completely worlds apart, in terms of power. Not only does Kyoka Suigetsu control the 5 senses, its power "transcends" time, as evident when even he hax'd Juha.
