The wasted, empty space between the nacelles always seemed to beg for an Akira style torpedo launcher pod. I understand the ship would have been classified as a heavy attack frigate in peace time, but the retrofit would have been quite simple should war have been declared.
@Euripides_Panz3 жыл бұрын
Maybe it was intentional. High-threat assignments get rapid refit at select Drydock facilities. Additional shield generators, pulse cannons, phaser strips, full-size or micro torpedo launch units could be fixed to existing hard points within hours, depending on the nature of the mission.
@pauls4785 ай бұрын
Another thought for that space is that it could be used for cargo: run a series of tractor beam emitters along each pylon to hold the cargo in place for rapid load & unload, plus easy to jettison if a quick escape is required.
@taraswertelecki37863 жыл бұрын
That empty space between the nacelles could be used for so many improvements, such as a more powerful reactor core, more or more powerful engines, rearward firing weapons, extra shield generators, or a bay from which auxiliary craft can be launched and recovered. All without increasing the ships size very much, and not at all with the bow or stern facing an enemy vessel.

That also bugged me about the design. First because it looks like such a week point. You hit that forked area at its smallest point and you can blow a necelle clean off and possibly cause a warp core overload back along the warp conduit from core to nacelle But I also viewed that space like the millennium Falcon. As it was designed as large cargo container mover. Perfectly placed between the warp nacelles means minimal strain on the warp bubble. Think like a sea can shipping container but bigger sliding right in between the nacelles. Like for building outposts and new space stations quickly in forward operating bases.

Maybe they intended to have some flank tubes at the leading edge. Combined with maneuverability, Norway can quickly down attack ships, pirate raiders, and give it an edge against sluggish opponents of equal or greater mass. Norway might be a good mod candidate for microtorpedo phalanx. OR, perhaps a mini torpedo, a smaller, cheaper photon warhead with a small, fast missile launch pod that can be easily mounted, deployed, retracted, and replaced on a number of designs. A ripple-launch sequence would devastate light targets and punish all but the heaviest ships to either flank. OP, or prudent defense measure under threat of invasion?

The Norway is a neat little ship and always seemed to be pretty solid and looks absolutely stunning remastered. I always envisioned the Norway as fitting into the role of a destroyer. Something that makes up the rank and file of the federation fleet and executes manoeuvres with other ships like the sabre and defiant. While I do enjoy the inclusion of the Lance phaser I personally prefer to see it as a close support gunboat, something relatively manoeuvrable and fast that it can keep up with the lighter ships and join them in the fray without being too much of a hinderance to them. It can sit just behind the skirmish line as a reserve force that can quickly plug any holes in the line until a galaxy or sovereign shows up. I guess i think this because it looks very sturdy, the ship appears to be strongly armoured almost like a scaled up defiant.

Brings to mind why Federation ships have a secondary hull, or at least one so far removed from the primary hull. On a secondary note. It sounds like teh Norway class is intended to be used almost as a cross between a torpedo boat a dive bomber. It has to maneuver like a torpedo boat with the precision strike of one big bomb from a dive bomber. In this case, I see otehr ships bombarding a target with photon torpedoes to weaken a shield or two, then the Norway comes in with a precision heavy punch of the phaser lance. Also, in this role, it would not need a lot of phaser banks, just a few since it was meant to provide fire support in much the way a tank (or assult gun) would provide fire support for infantry with the nfantry providing protection for the tank.

First I'd heard of the Norway-class Phaser Lance. It has gone up on my list quite a bit as a result. Also the deflector is high up in the recessed nose section, far too much room for nothing at all considering it's a warship that could fit at least 2 torpedo launchers in that space.

Its also suprisingly durable despite low stats in the game star trek: legacy. ive been able to severely damage ships like the D'Deridex in 1 on 1s at higher difficulties, but i dont get a phaser lance there. i would love to see more of her. if shes a long range ship, its possible she could still be used in Picard in that role, as she wouldnt be targeted unless the battle turned against the federation, and like you mentioned, she wouldnt be helpless even then. Also, would be nice to have some norwegian names, but then i wouldnt know how to say them!

Kind of like the Saber and to some extent the Steamrunner, which has some badarse-looking angles. (The Saber-class actually grew on me, and the Steamrunner looked built-for-purpose all along, but I think the Norway maybe really took the loving attention of the 'Squadrons' fan film to ever actually look right. And it makes sense that lance phasers feature prominently in ships designed to be anti-Borg ...cause generally you'd want to hit really hard in a short time before they adapt. Also in the times of the Breen weapon being checkmate, you'd also want to ...not get hit by the thing and instead hit hard before they hit you. Agile ships that hit hard would be well-concentrated there.

Looking at the Norway again leaves me with the imagery of rushed production. Modelers can make rush cut jobs because they think ILM will just smooth out and refine the model digitally while ILM will just uses blur and distancing to hide those imperfections because Paramount paid for the cg value of an Ollie's clearance rack. I have to disagree. It's not that we Americans don't know European Geopgraphy, it's that we don't know Geography, period.

then why not call it City class since Norway still isn't a city!

@@venomgeekmedia9886 Mainly people in the YT comments have been reffrencing Norway as in Norway the country more than the cities so the only known Norweigan city in norway is Budapast if im not mistaken since naming a another noway class ship after such a city like Budapast would make just as much sense if im not mistaken?

definitely feels like some kind of mounting rail. but equally if it was filled in the ship would feel much heavier.

Hmmmm... I disagree with you about the number of phasers the Norway class would have had. Six phasers should be the minimum to maintain a full round field of fire typical of Federation ships. If you said that the Federation was so desperate for ships against the Borg (and were certain it would be the Borg they would be primarily fighting) that they were literally pushing ships out of construction when they had only the armament strictly required to fulfill their role in an anti-Borg task force and also were half finished in the rest of the ships' interiors not strictly required for a battle with the Borg I could get behind that argument. However, that is not what is implied in the movies and DS9, as the second Borg incursion came as a half expected surprise amid the preparations for conflict with a much more traditional enemy in the Dominion and Cardassians. In such a conflict with the Dominion and the Cardassians, their ships would be able to take advantage of the Norway's severe lack of arcs of fire with the mere two or three phasers you would alot to the Norway class. I cannot see a conservative Starfleet engineer/architect allowing this to come to pass.
@venomgeekmedia98863 жыл бұрын
while i would agree particular with ships of the 60s the Norway is extremely maneuverable and so its very difficult to get into a blind spot. couple that with formation flying and its almost impossible to get around a norway.
@lanebowles81703 жыл бұрын
@@venomgeekmedia9886 I agree, the Norway class is extremely maneuverable...in comparison to a Borg Cube, Romulan D'deridex, Jem'Hadar Battlecruiser, and Federation Galaxy class ships. This would very much not be the case when coming up against small Klingon Birds-of-Prey, Jem'Hadar attack ships, or even the Cardassian Hideki class. It would be these ships the Norway class would have to fight against far more often than against a single big opponent. In regards to formation flying, first this is not something the Federation Starfleet would be much practiced at as, far as we know, there hasn't been an organized war on the scale of the Dominion War or even the short Federation-Klingon War in decades. Not even the end of your version of the Cardassian Border Wars would provide the proper exposure to encourage the development of close formations. Nevertheless, having reviewed this video a second time, I realized that the disagreement between us is a moot point. At 5:20 to 5:50 you describe that various sources place the number of secondary phaser armament at 4 to 6, which you consider to be far too many this simple hull design. Then you go ahead and describe the secondary phaser armament you imagine, consisting of two phaser strips on the main (primary?) hull (upper?), one big ventral phaser, then "two pairs" (4 in total?) on the nacelle pylons. That adds up to 7 phasers, more than what you described most of your sources stated. Thus our disagreement is a moot point.

I don't like the Norway's Gap in between the sale pylons I think that should have been filled in they could have put a shuttle Bay there even if it was raised up slightly like put a piece in there that's not kind of octagon top and bottom on it you know I can take a stop sign you put it cut it in half put on top and bottom that kind of shape and a shuttle Bay right in the rear where they could have put a big impulse engine there but I think it would have made a great long shuttle Bay look how long it would be she could hold you know at least six fighters in there or some runabouts she can hold some runabouts in there maybe three three four run about I mean that's what I would want if I just started and I can pick auxiliary class for battle I'd pick up you know if I had to be at Norway and there's a shuttle Bay right there I'd want at least four runabouts in there and I want my runabouts modified to carry quantum torpedoes or at least felt good the most powerful photon torpedoes and the most powerful microphone torpedoes you know and that's what they do you know we got to fight with another ship I'd launch all four of them and I tell them just to open up with those torpedoes on the other s*** but yeah you can use the phasers once the shields are down but just you know as soon as this as soon as you can just pump a full of torpedoes tell him to launch at least three four five photons off the top and at least three of the micro torpedoes from the nose at the same time I feed s*** did that that'd be six nine it's just three ships didn't let me know and the micro torpedoes are probably only about half as strong as a real faux on but still I don't know what ship shield could we stand that being hit all at once from multiple sides like I said there was two Jim and Darth fighters you know earthly there was a gym at our cruiser and a gym with our fighter and two gyms are fighters and the Norway just launch its run about to run about to each go after the gym and dark fighters find torpedoes Adam

venom geek I would think You would need a deflector @ probably just about any real speed faster than maneuvering thrusters. Can you imagine not using a Nav deflector @ full impulse. Just try hitting meteors & meteorites @.25c or any impulse speed really. Your ship would not last long even if hitting just tiny dust particles @ full impulse. & So just to make my point & for reference say at full impulse .25c. That would be like hitting objects @1.677e+8 MPH or 167,700,000 MPH. So I'm pretty confident that yeah you would need a deflector. So i don't get the lance phase r deflector idea. Makes no scientific sense.
@venomgeekmedia98863 жыл бұрын
if the lance was online you'd of course have to raise the shields. but also bear in mind its ablative armor. and generally when your using the lance you aren't accelerating anyway.

Opening your video by begging for money guarantees that you'll get neither my money, my sub, or even my like/dislike. You'll get this one comment telling you to put that crap at the end of your video, because it's not what we come to KZbin for. The best channels don't even ask at all, and still have millions of subscribers. Put it together. It's content we come for, not commercials, and if you make good content, you'll get paid.
@venomgeekmedia98863 жыл бұрын
You are aware you can skip ahead? Sometimes I do put it at the end but it's primarily to acknowledge those who choose to support me. Most channels tend to hook you and then E-beg which personally I find more disruptive.
