Lovely piece of art here. With the proper base, it's one heck of a piece. As to why your silicon mold stuck to your resin. There are a few things that come to mind. One is that your mixture of resin might have been too hot (too much hardener) which can cause silicon to bind to the resin after it is cured. Another is that maybe the resin wasn't mixed perfectly, causing some of it to cure at a different rate, which can again cause sticking. Yet another is that the silicon might not have actually cured all the way. With the amount that you used, this is the one I'd say is most likely because of how it cures. You didn't spray the insides with a mold release either, which is a step that might be normally unnecessary, but I also find it useful because of the odd unlucky cure like this. And if you can get it into all the little crevices, it will prevent this from happening in the future regardless of luck. It does mean you have to wash the resin part with some soapy water afterwards though (to get rid of the releasing agent.)

I know this is a couple of years old, but I wanted to comment a couple of things. Firstly, absolutely loved this! As far as the silicone sticking, it may have be an exothermic reaction. If the resin gets too hot too fast, it will cause the silicone to stick. Or if you used a torch to pop bubbles. Additionally, some silicone require post-curing in an oven or waiting to use it 24 hours before using the mold. Hopefully, this helps.

I've had issues when using clay to make molds like that in the past and found it had to do with how porous it is. A good coat of gloss spray varnish or other glossy spray coat will allow the silicone to create a smoother surface with less chance for the resin to bind... Don't know if that was your issue, but something to keep in mind when you're casting a silicone mold. Amazing work, as always! My daughter must have said "so pretty" at least 8 times during this video

Still a eyeball fan, but I never was o. Board with the voice over idea. Loved watching a master paint without explanation, this it was fun to see you start something and not know what it would be until it was finished. Now you say what it will be in the beginning, so mystery is gone. That's OK though, I just turn off the sound. Less compelling without music, but still great artistry!

That resin/silicone issue is really weird but you managed to pull through to a great result 👍 I wonder if you should have used a mold release.
@4THECRAFT2 жыл бұрын
Normally I don't use mold release in silicone molds but as others suggested this is what needs to be done with difficult pourings.
@micah06v82 жыл бұрын
I think the reason the silicone stuck is because the surface of the polymer clay was not burnished. If you look at the texture of the resin, you can see a lot of these little teeny tiny almost microscopic holes. I think the silicone became embedded in those holes, and got trapped. At least that's what it looks like to me. I would recommend using a small paint brush and brushing the clay with isopropyl alcohol before pouring the silicone on it next time to remove that little bit of unwanted abrasive texture. I hope this helps!
@M4xim72 жыл бұрын
@micah06v6 zgadzam się z Tobą. Nie wygladzony porządnie polimer może być przyczyną przyklejania się silikonu do żywicy epoksydowej.
@4THECRAFT2 жыл бұрын
Thank you . Strangely I have brushed the clay with isopropyl alcohol before baking it but I still had this issue
@micah06v82 жыл бұрын
@@4THECRAFT I wonder what's causing texture then? I just did some quick research, and I only see 2 other things I think it could be. 1) the silicone isn't fully cured. 2) evidently there are issues with tin cure resin reacting poorly with resin. Maybe try a different brand of silicone and see if that helps? Something like Alumilite's Amazing Mold Maker.

I think the resin and silicone stuck together cause the it wasn't lubricated like when you grease a pan for baking you want to use a none stick lubricant to make resin separate from the silicone with ease
@anselmoasaable2 жыл бұрын
@4:00. I have this problem sometimes, with other materials. I have an ideia why this happened with the silicon: the silicon "copied" the porosity of the clay. The epoxy resin entered the silicon pores and it occurred a mechanical grip, not chemical bond. Maybe, next time, you should apply a varnish on the clay, to make It more smooth.

Thanks. Yes this makes sense 👍
