UPDATE: MS Nordstjernen will keep sailing - unlike mentioned in my videos, the ship will not stop operating soon, it will just stop sailing in arctic waters. It will be able to sail in other destinations in the future! This is based on information of the owner of the ship, Vestland Classic. So there is a chance to cruise with this wonderful ship for many more years, but if you want to sail with it to Svalbard, you still need to book fast!

We are going on this boat in January and now I am absolutely terrified boarding a illegal boat with shared facilities…….. 😮 I had no idea

Why would this be an illegal ship? There are different cabin categories on every cruise ship in the world. Wether a cabin has shared facilities or an own bathroom depends on the cabin category booked on the Nordstjernen, as very clearly described in the description of the cruise and the cabin and probably also stated in your booking confirmation.

@@LucasMichael the shared facilities isn’t the illegal part, it’s the open life boats that is the illegal aspect why the boat is being decommissioned in 1 years time. Going on a trip without legal life savings boats is a valid reason to be concerned

@@nickyburnett1886 As stated in the video, it is not illegal, they have a permission to use these lifeboats in Svalbard in 2023. Also as stated in the pinned comment the ship will continue to sail with these lifeboats for many more years, just not in the waters of Svalbard.

​@@nickyburnett1886 The ship won't be in Svalbard because the governor introduced new rules, that would require some changes (like engine, I assume), which is not possible for Nordstjernen. It has nothing to do with life boats and the ship is perfectly safe, pushing smaller icebergs in the slush with no problems.
