1983. I was a second engineer in 90000ton tanker. Now. the engine room is clean and more high tech stuff. I am retired now. but I miss that time a lot. marine engineer life is my life. Good job.

The best way is to go to a school for the maritime industry and get your USCG license in either deck or engines. The you can sail commercially.

Our family used to take the car ferry to Victoria BC, and when I was a young lad, when we were walking from the car to the restaurant on the ferry I would walk by a door to the engine room. Heat billowing out, guys talking, tool sounds, and I thought when I grow up, I want to work in the engine room of a huge ship. Sadly that never came true, but I am a mechanic that works on much smaller things...cars! Thanks for the excellent video!

Jeff, this is a an awesome video. It's informative and the quality of the videography is superb! thanks so much for making this. If you have the time and inclination, it would be super cool to do individual videos for each system (i.e. power generation, hydraulic systems, fuel systems, etc.). there is so much fascinating stuff going on in the engine room, it would be amazing to be able to learn more - and your video style would it that more fun and informative. anyway, keep up the great work.
