I offered free shipping for around 6 months and then decided to change my profile to a fixed rate, meeting them halfway like youre suggesting. It didnt affect my sales at all. I will say the free shipping may have helped get new customers in the beginning as a new store but now that I have longevity I think the adjustment made no difference. My sales are actually up over last year and with plenty of return customers. Also your workflow tips on shipping have been an insane time saver! Thank you!

This is by far the most confusing part for me. I understand everything about etsy pretty well by now, but I am totally confused about the shipping. How do you determine the weight of the order for example? Am I just guessing? All Im trying to do is set up tracking. I cant figure out what is what. Ive just been completing my orders without a shipping profile. Getting very frustrated...

Oh wow, I did not expect a reply (and so swiftly at that)....THANK you. I'm with Gelato and Im selling both Mens/Womens clothing, phone cases and some other random items. The entire shipping process has thrown me WAY off. I am generally very quick to grasp things. I feel like I understand etsy after almost 2 months, but with only a few orders so far, I have yet to figure this part out. I completed an order last night, (customer was charged a little over $10 for shipping). I then ordered a "label" for the first time ONLY because I have not figured out how to get a tracking number otherwise. I was then charged over $13 for the shipping label (more than customers shipping rate???). So etsy takes shipping from customer, then also from me for a "label"? I don't get it... how do I get a tracking number on an order without a label? Ive heard Printify has a flat rate for shipping, I definitely DO NOT see a flat rate on my end with Gelato. I see varying prices based on location and number of orders (unless Im missing something altogether). Loving the etsy journey so far, but the lack of understanding the shipping process is throwing me all the way off and stressing me out. Thank you again for the swift reply...much appreciated. Does selecting USPS box mean that you are using USPS box? or can you use any box? Also, could you use a USPS box but then choose Package?

Box is more expensive I think than package !

The small flat rate box fits my items perfectly… how do I select in my shipping services because I don’t see that choice.

This was very helpful thank you! I have one question though in the package type I am not able to select the envelope, and only shows mailing tube options even though my dimensions and weight are envelope sized. Do you know how to fix?

Hi! I have a silly question. I just opened a shop and I know Etsy holds my funds for a while since I’m new, does this mean I have to pay out of my own pocket for shipping costs?

I believe that money will still get deducted from your payment account, BUT its been a while since I opened a new shop so I would test this by purchasing a single label and seeing what happens

Thanks for the vid!! This is gonna seem like a dopey question...but after you recieve your orders. And after you pack them. Can't you just take them on over to the post office or ups and have them do all the weighing and give you a cost right there? Of which you pay and then boom. You're done? Which I think I'd rather do.. Or is it mandatory to do printing labels and all that? I'm only going to be selling 12x18 flat prints and 24x36 posters (in tubes) The shipping question is really tying me in knots. Thank you.

Much easier to buy the label and ship yourself otherwise you will spend hours per week waiting in line at the post office
