I once had a forward interior cabin woke up in pitch darkness to this loud noise that sounded like the ship hit something and was sinking. I jump out of bed run outside where I could see the ocean as quickly as possible only to find people calmly walking past on a bright sunny day. I ask another passenger if they heard that loud crashing noise. They started laughing and said it was the anchor being lowered 😅

You definitely don't want an inner cabin; make sure it's along the perimeter. A group of us went a couple years back. My girlfriend and I, our cabin was great; loved having my morning coffee on my own private deck, watching the ocean roll by. It was amazing. But one woman in our party, who joined us fairly last minute, it worked out that her room didn't even have a window. She didn't seem to mind, but it would've depressed the hell out of me. The little deck was one of the best parts. Stumbling back to your cabin at midnight, sitting out there, occassionally seeing another cruise ship in the distance. Then sitting out there again in the morning, having your coffee while your partner showers. It would've been an entirely different trip without that deck.

Balconies with views partially obstructed by lifeboats are the best. 1) slightly cheaper 2) if you fall off, it's a survivable 3-4 metres onto a lower deck (instead of the open ocean) 3) you get a nice sea breeze.

We went on our first cruise and did not get a cabin with a deck, but a few weeks prior to us leaving they sent an email asking if we would like to bid on an upgrade. We bid the minimum amount and got the upgrade for WAY cheaper than just buying the ticket, and now I don't know if I want to cruise without a deck
@mommy2libras
@mommy2libras 7 ай бұрын
I'll tell you what I was told, and it's true- you can never go lower in rooms. Once you've had a window, you'll always have to have at least that. Same with balcony, suite, etc. Our first cruise was ok, we had an obstructed view picture window (which wasn't obstructed at all) but the room was pretty tiny. Second cruise, we had a balcony room. I knew the minute I walked in I could never spend a week in that tiny room again. So don't upgrade all the way unless you always want to do that and can afford it, lol.
@BeaverDunker
@BeaverDunker 7 ай бұрын
@@mommy2librasyeah our was an "obstructed balcony" but the only thing that was obstructed on the view was directly down because we were the first level of cabins and the covering on the lower deck was there but you had to look down to see it. But maybe that's why is they upgrade you for cheaper knowing in the future you'll spend the extra money?

Aft facing cabins are best.. you can get on your veranda and don't have heavy winds blowing at you.. but even better is certain ships have shows on aft deck... so you can sit there and enjoy the show. Now this all depends if your idea of a getaway is to be packed like sardines into a metal box with 6000 other people. For that kind of money im heading to Some place that has a bungalow over blue waters. I don't care for the overpriced amenities that cruise lines think they " give" you.

@nuthinbutlove

@@tvtothepoint yes! I don't do them anymore, and that's just one of the reasons. Staff who work those lines don't care about spreading their germs to the passengers. Needless to say they were frightening enough experiences to get me to stop taking them, and these weren't cheap cruises by any means.

I get what you’re saying. Depends on the cruise line. We’ve been on 2 Viking cruises where the ship only carries around 950 passengers. No waiting for meals, no fighting for deck chairs, etc… No way would I go on a cruise with thousands of people.

I saw Titanic. I saw The Poseidon Adventure. I have ZERO interest in any cruise liner. I'll stick to cabins that are on land, stocked fully for survival of up to six months at a time with a primary and back-up generator. If I was meant to be around or in water for longer than the duration of a shower or a swim (in a well-maintained pool!) I would still have gills.

My first cruise I took was in the eastern Caribbean in the summer, and I had a beautiful room with a balcony. Unfortunately the sun came GLARING into my room early every morning, and even with the curtain closed it was so bright in the room I couldn’t sleep, so I spent the entire vacation exhausted. The next cruise I took was on the Queen Mary 2 from New York to Southampton, England. The thought of looking at nothing but ocean for 7 days didn’t thrill me, so I booked an inside cabin with no windows. Not only was it cheaper, the room was always totally dark unless I turned a light on, so I slept soundly for 8 hours every night. My room was so well appointed and spacious that I loved being there, even thought it was the most beautiful ship I’d ever been on.

If you plan to take a cruise to stay in your cabin, save the money and stay at home. Cabins are to sleep and relax a bit here and there, and use the bathroom. Unless you have special needs because you want to be romantic with your significant other (and no kids) and have privacy in a balcony, just stay in an inside room somewhere in the middle of the ship. This gives you virtually no noise at night, and full blackness when you turn off the lights (put a towel by the cabin door if the light outside is too bright). it is the best sleep ever. then, go out and enjoy the cruise OUTSIDE the cabin.
