Not to be a "Safety Sally" but, You should not use the miter gauge with the rip fence as you did at 11:20 in. The cut off can bind between the blade and fence and shoot back towards the operator. Clamp a scrap of wood to the rip fence short of the blade so there is extra space between the blade and the fence for the cutoff and it can't bind.

I was going to mention the exact same thing. Never ever stand behind the part cut off between the blade and fence. Amazing how much speed a cut off piece can sling back. And if it hits you, it can easily do serious damage to you requiring a visit to the ER. Please don't learn that mistake by experience...

Back when that vessel was built, they just tight-fit lumber and hoped it would swell. Maybe they used hyde glue, but only in the interior as it is not very waterproof. You two are using far better lumber combined with epoxy and quality primer and paint. This good old vessel will last forever and take whatever nature can give it. When your up in the helm during a storm, you'll have the confidence of diving through the waves, knowing she can stand it just fine. When anchored, I would kiss The helm and say thank you.

hi, remember me? -i'm the guy who said "you're the best in the weld!" i did have one request - I'm a media editor, and I know how much trouble the editing part is, but whenever you have a scene with grinding, sanding or sawing, if you could knock the audio level down around -10dB, it would be so nice. For people who listen on laptops, those high, whiny, annoying frequencies are accentuated, and it means you have to turn the volume down for those scenes, then back up to hear your lovely voices. I'm a longtime subscriber from the Chesapeake Bay in the US, love you guys and your channel, best of luck!

Interestingly, as well as D-day, there was an H-hour at which Operation Overlord began, at which time the flotilla of landing craft sailed and the naval and aerial bombardment of the Normandy coast began, to prepare the beaches for the landings and to erode the effectiveness of the coastal defenses. This was at about 2am. The convention of using "the eleventh hour of the eleventh day of the eleventh month," dates back to the Armistice at the end of WW1, which fell on all the elevens. As a veteran of another war in another place, at another time, I value your mindfulness of these young lads by air, sea and land, who gave up their futures so that we could enjoy ours. Family members of mine served in both WW1, WW2 and other military engagements of the 20th Century, including my dad's uncle, who died aged 18 in 1916 and is interred "on Flanders' Field."

You can save some sanding on epoxy, if you wait until it is "gelled" then come through with a sharp knife or even a sharp putty knife and just scrape/cut it off. This is especially true with 205, as it kicks to a gel state so fast. Depending on how thick it's applied, it's usually about 10-20 minutes tops. This is better for your health too, as those fine fillers return to their powdery state when sanding.

Hi Gemma and Simon. Like the saw. Couple of suggestions, make a push stick to push the timber through so fingers are out of the way of the blade. The other is to spray the table with some silicone spray, it allows the timber to slide easily past the blade. Like your work. Rgds John.

your commitment to Sarinda is to be applauded in todays world. truly commendable, and for all the right reasons. I applaud you. I've watched every episode, in addtion to some of your other channels. I was guided to your channel by David from Cruisin the Cut. Your resourcefulness in all things boats leads me to this thought... his boat, (new boat) is in marina without a trailer. I'm assuming he is renting the one it's resting on. maybe you have some thoughts on where he might acquire one. anyway, as a long a time custom jobber I'm always impressed with your skills and attention to detail, and most of all your commitment to getting it right. something lacking in abundance on my side of the pond in my opinion. well done.

It's really important that you listen, take heed, of all who are telling you don't use the miter gauge with the rip fence like you did for your first cut on your new saw. There's a safe way to use both in earlier comments that you must understand and use. If you want to feel like you've been shot with a bullet, ignore all this good advice.

P.S. I had the same hoover attachment issue, so I got a standard waste pipe reducer in the plumbing shop. Cheap as chips, 42mm to 32mm I think is the size. Also stand to the left of the blade when cutting incase the timber jambs and kicks back. Very painful, espically if it was Simon 😵‍💫. I added a strip of thin plastic under the miter piece. It raises it up in the track and takes the wobble out. Glue it on with super glue.

Sarinda is a ship that is very much part of the history of the Second World War and I am pleased that the Royal Navy gave you permission to fly the Naval ensign on her to commemorate the D-Day landings. Indeed, it wouldn't have been the first time for Sarinda to proudly fly the naval ensign. An important event in history that contributed greatly in securing the freedoms that we enjoy today and liberated much of Europe from the tyranny of an ideology that was based on hatred, expansionism and a false sense of racial superiority. Lest we forget why so many made the ultimate sacrifice for us all.

Tip for the day. well two tips. First tip is LEAVE the guard on at all time, I know it is a pain but nowhere near as painful as taking 3mm off the end of your thumb and spending weeks doing rehab, voice of experience. Tip two, when the grip for the fence, that little handle you push down to lock it in place, fails to grip anymore, put a cable tie, zip tie, whatever, between the locking mech and the handle to give it something else to grip with. It works, again the voice of experience.

Silly suggestion - tie a peg with strong jaws to your copper snipper so that when you snip the nails you have the peg hold onto the bit snipped off and it won't fly off and end up in the bottom of the boat....I was gong to suggest a magnet but I think copper is not magnetic is it?....just a thought
