The feature I appreciated the most internally and externally is how the change in floor levels provide extra seating without the need for extra furniture.
@waveman15005 жыл бұрын
I agree that the bench seating along floor levels is the most interesting part of the house. For comfort I think a cushion would be very much appreciated. Sitting on a flat timber floor wouldn't be comfortable for a dinner party. I almost wonder whether this is part of the design, to make the dining table deliberately uncomfortable in order to encourage people to get up and move to the lounge area. The change in floor levels is quite extreme, it almost appears as if it could create safety issues for walking in the dark, or people with less mobility. At 4:59 there is a vertical drop which looks like at least 30-45cm, immediately outside a sliding door to the living room. I would hate to have a guest fall down there by accident and injure themselves! Elderly people may have trouble with those stairs up to the granny flat, aka "guest pod." Ar 12:59 you can see six stairs with a 90 degree turn and no hand rail. It would be very simple to have extended the deck to meet up with the driveway, or perhaps put a ramp in.

Managed to pay off my debt by 2019 and currently have a house and 250k total in investments (combo of profit share, 401k and a brokerage account). I'm not very knowledgeable in investing, so I just have my investing currently in index funds mainly voo, but have been putting a lot into schd the past few months. I'm a young Pre-Trade Carpentry Student in NZ, and I often get into discussions about tiny/small homes, and alternative building techniques (including shipping containers) with one of my tutors. Just last week, I asked him if a shipping container being insulated from the outside, in order to save precious interior space, was a viable option. He had never even thought or heard of the idea, but was intrigued none the less. Almost as if by magic, this video comes along and mentions that this is EXACTLY what had been done during this build. This channel has time and again proven to be both inspirational and educational; and I'm proud to say that I've been a long time subscriber. Absolutely love the content you guys produce, and seeing the diversity on those whom you visit.

The fact that your tutor had never thought or heard of this concept is shocking! They're supposed to stay on top of new trends and techniques in their field. Container homes started a while ago... It's good that you were open-minded and forward-thinking.
@teresacarle2945 жыл бұрын
Not in trades, but I'm absolutely fascinated by affordable green homes. (That concept is an oxymoron in SoCal where anything environmental friendly costs 10xs higher than our already outrageous construction costs.) Still, I like to learn about passive home design and smart insulation that protects structures from blistering heat and sun. Off the grid living is also a big interest. Excellent content!!!

Hasn't shipping container design come a long way ? To pass all the stringent regulatory processes/red tape inherent in modern builds shows a seachange in the typically conservative building bureaucracy especially with the strict protocols employed in developed countries like Australia. Finally the younger, greener generation has infiltrated such professional agencies. A decade ago this would have been impossible. This place is stunning and the choice of beautiful timber-framed doors and windows sustainably manufactured really warms up the wonderful industrial aesthetic. Once again you have both produced a brilliant vlog (more like a professional "show") highlighting cutting edge small, sustainable living options. It would have been the icing on the cake to see an off-grid solar array on this lovely home. Thank you for posting. Yes ... more content like this as long as you keep to your "tiny" roots occasionally.

All the negative comments here are absurd. Those who are critical about the homeowner, his mannerisms, the design, the price, the decor etc should just keep scrolling along. This was what the homeowner chose. Everyone has different tastes in what they want - that's what keeps life interesting. I really like how the kids room just had beds, that they had a play room with their things closer to the family area. It really helps with kids nowadays who would rather just hang out in their room all day watching tv, playing video games, etc., it really keeps them out of the room to be out in their home doing things and outside. When my kids were younger the home we lived in had 2 living rooms, one was on their side of the house. I really wanted them to be out of their room more, hanging out with each other doing things, so I set up there living room with craft table and shelves, water paints, bracelet making, many things that they would enjoy doing that wasn’t revolved around a tv.

I love how the kangaroos were staring at the drone in confusion. My favourite moment, for sure. They were all "What the heck is that?!"

I've seen many containers houses; many trying to hide that are containers houses. This is by far one's that trying to show that is a container house( and is not shy showing this proudly) in it's best beauty and clever/smart good use of design comes in mind as best applied here. Congratz for the lovely build u have.

They have kangaroos just hanging out!!!! Mean while I'm over here in the U.S. getting excited over squirrels.

Yup! Although, here in Florida, I've seen on the news that people have been visited by alligators. Where I'm at, the most I've seen is are snakes, yikes!
@felinkulus4 жыл бұрын
Yeah I was thrilled too when I saw them! O.O Imagine waking up, taking a cup of tea outside, getting into the hammock and just watching the kangaroos silently...
@JDawn864 жыл бұрын
I'd love to live in Florida minus the hurricanes and alligators. Being afraid of my pets or kids being eaten by a giant reptile it too prehistoric for me lol. Yes to lounge in a hammock and watch the kangaroos in the sunset with a cup of tea would be amazing 😍😍
@prepperjonpnw64824 жыл бұрын
Kangaroos are fine at a distance but up close they will kick your butt in big way lol. They front feet have huge claws that are razor sharp and they can lean back on their tail and use their back legs to kick the crap out of you lol. So like most animals in the wild need to be avoided lol. Of course the babies are so darn cute though lol

Once again Bryce you found amazing. What a Home. The homeowner is warm, friendly, inviting, astute and very much aware that reducing our carbon footprint doesn’t mean you have to sacrifice comfort or beauty.

Achyut Arjun Me too. Reminded me of my in-laws. Lol. My father in law had a bad fall and needed hip surgery, which meant he couldn’t walk upstairs to his bedroom so he slept in the downstairs bedroom. They had a 3 story house, the third floor (the bottom one) was like a studio apartment. Because of him not able to get around most of the house they ended up selling it (they lived there for 25 years) and buying a one story home. And guess what ... he’s still sleeping in a different bedroom from his wife... 😆 .. Makes no sense to me.. 🤔🤷🏻♀️
