If the pieces were actually shaped like LEGOS you could probably have found every kid, and a lot of adults, who would have volunteered to help you. Catching up on all these videos is so entertaining and educational (although I did watch the 4 building videos earlier but the second time is just as great). One constant: Molly is always smiling; and a great smile it is! One thing, she keeps telling us is she is really new to being a full-time farmer; but if she never told us I doubt we would really know. For the hut build, I would have an issue up in the lift because my brain does not like heights; yet Molly seems to have no fear or concerns, just does what needs to be done. She runs tractors, packages corn and potatoes (hefting those 50lb bags onto the pallets like she has been doing it all her life; and why they package literally many tons of potatoes/corn a day. If this farming thing does not work out, I think she could start a video production gig; or goes back to dentistry. Keep up the good work young lady. At this rate in a few years Shane will be asking you how to do things! LOL

If you get some jersey gloves, cut the fingers out, place a hot hands packets 🎉in the gloves on the back of your hands, your finger and your hands tips will stay warm. Also if you cut a piece of rubber hose that is slightly smaller that the nuts you can place a nut in the end of the hose and it will hold it for you while you spin it in the bolt. That building looks like it will serve you well for years. Happy New Year, I’ve survived on potatoes my entire life. Have you ever considered growing Horse Radishes also?

@@BellsFarming I love the farm lifestyle. I have learned a lot about potato farming. Very interesting. The way you explained everything was enlightening. I grew up on a farm and we had all the varieties of animals, including horses (which I used to raise and train). We grew and sold vegetables, had chickens and sold the eggs and had an orchard. Not a lot of automation back then but I grew up real fast. Worked like a grown man before the age of 10. I enjoyed it,and miss it. Ty for posting and I will watch many more videos.

I try to grind off most of the galvanized, but ya don’t breathe that stuff in/ enjoy a nice half gallon of milk with supper proactively. Wouldn’t be surprised if the paint on those things is leaded to be honest either

Great video. Was wondering if there was any local planning or zoning permits required for the structure

We’re zoned Ag, but we did have to have a local engineer sign off on it since it’s equipment storage. Was it for veggies or grain then we can do whatever we want essentially

we built one on a 6 foot wall of concrete. well actually 4.5 feet..We started the half rings and when they were all built we had two concrete trucks to a side. They poured into valley that walls were set in vibrated them so they were airless or bubbleless went from one end to other end of building. did one side and then did otherside at the same time. so concrete was all done in a matter of 25 minutes. then we built the end walls after concrete hardened put door on one end and in less then 5 days we were done with 170 foot long building 45 foot wide. lots of luck. we humped butt to get ours done.

Typical farmers! Farmers are like - i got this. We dont need to hire someone to do this. Thats something this country has lost. Glad to see people out there retaining know how and desire to do their own stuff.

Pretty much. Every so many often we will “hire something out”, then we get the bill and and say” never doing that again, we could have done that no problem “ it’s a viscous cycle haha

Yes farmers are some of the most resourceful people I have ever met. They can do anything and everything. Too bad there aren’t more of them in the younger generations! We need more can do people in the world!

Amazing!! How much does each section of the hoop weight? Is it possible to set this up on the outside edges, rather than the inside of the containers, making the container inside the hoop house? Just an amazing video!!
@BellsFarming
@BellsFarming Жыл бұрын
Yes they can be built that way if you wanted to. But you would loose a lot of storage space having the containers inside. It’s not the prettiest building. But it will be the most practical for us! Thank you very much for watching!

I am interested in a building a Quonset on containers as you have done, you did a great job and I really appreciate the video. I am wondering if you had to have an engineer sign off on the container carrying the weight of the load. Perhaps someone could chime in as to my concern, I am in upstate NY so we do have snow load in addition to the building weight. Thanks so much!
@shanebell9589
@shanebell9589 9 ай бұрын
We did have to get an engineer to sign off on the attachment to the containers, and the “anchoring “ of the containers to ground, seems they were more worried about the wind blowing it away then anything. I mean you look at container ships, they stack them things 20+ high so the weight rating shouldn’t be an issue. I really like the overall design would definitely recommend
@BellsFarming

Also there was a really high snow rating for it!

Question for you. What is the cost of this building? Couldn't you come out cheaper and more sturdier, from the wind, and elements, if you just put up a large inexpensive steel building?
@shanebell9589
@shanebell9589 Жыл бұрын
This building really fit our needs, especially with ability to store stuff separately in the containers, and as far as cost vs a steel building, this required 0 concrete. With 4’ frostline concrete adds up quick

So, on the first ring, did you do two sides at the same time and meet in the middle or one side all the way across?

We did each side and met in the middle. We also put up the first piece of the second hoops to help stabilize that first full one as it went up. Worked great! We are moving along now. We got 5 done yesterday, we are at 17 total now I thing. ( yesterday is not in the first video, I am two days behind on footage)

Should be wearing fall restraints. That height could seroius unjure or kill you. I have a 40 foot antenna tower and I would never not wear one while doing maintenance on the tower. I rent a 35 foot lift and still wear one. Its all about safety. Those are huge panels.

They didn’t provide a gasket or sealant to use between panels? My wife and I put together put together 2 10000 bushel grain bins together. She was 6 months pregnant and would sit inside and put the nuts on the bolts and I would tighten them.

@@shanebell9589 good plan, ideally 1/4” per foot. They aren’t heated so you aren’t likely to get much ice damming but could from sun melting. Sealing it is certainly wise, looking great! Retired GC here. 😁
