doesn't the ending give it all away though? here's a better summary. >bobr company makes cogware to develop the first 3D game ever >CEO of the bobr company wife is hospitalized for cancer >they had to amputate her arms >CEO now is continuously funding the hospital and potentially using the funding to find way to keep her alive >the bobr company stock is also going to shit so CEO has to lay off/cut off costs >plays the demo of the game. completely dismisses it and decides to stop the game's development. >gamedevs throws a hissy fit about it considering it was his biggest creative endeavor and was working on it for 3-5 years. >gamedev decides to sabotage the game completely by modifying it with bad shit about the company. then releases it and commits the lowtiergod there is also some supernatural/body horror shit going on with the mascots that you won't figure out entirely until you play the even older demo version of the game. This game already stands above any other "spooky horror!!!!!" just because all the monsters you encounter arent some lame ass cliche shit like "oh the ghosts of the dead possesed the game" and instead just things that were intentionally added by Connor to bring the company down with him and that alone just makes it really interesting in my opinion. Im not sure what to think about the whole starling part of the plot, but its whatever honestly. Just the fact that the game is one big suicide note makes it so much better than any other horror coming out nowadays.

SPOILERS . . . . . So if I'm getting this correct, all the supernatural stuff was just a red herring and the ultimate truth was that the dev was mentally unstable and hid this weird meta story inside the game, and then the company got cut off from their sponsor and this guy ended up unaliving from the shock? And instead of being supernatural in origin, this game was simply a restoration of that story as he originally intended as tribute to him? I'm... kind of conflicted about that. On the one hand I see what they were going for and it definitely subverts your expectations, but I feel like the execution was a bit lacking. All of the buildup leading to absolutely nothing feels very disappointing- even if the twist wasn't supernatural in nature I feel like they could have had at least a little bit of it be real, namely the drama between the devs. I also feel like it's a little bit... hard to feel sympathetic for him. Like, what, just because your 2 year dev cycle game didn't work out you find that a good enough reason? There's people who had much bigger projects than that canceled and kept going and started new things, he just comes across as being very touchy and weak. Which maybe he was, but it makes it feel much less like he was a victim of circumstance and more like this was bound to happen eventually. If a failure of this level brought him to despairing, how would he have handled the stress of actual fame if the game *had* taken off? Not to mention in the game he explicitly states that you can only get to see the whole truth if "you want what he has"- in other words the reason why the truth is buried so deep is simply because he wants you to play his game to completion and anyone who isn't willing to do that doesn't "deserve" to know the truth. It all comes across as very egotistical. Also, the gameplay felt like it had... issues. The puzzle solving was cool and I always find it fun when games ask you to take notes and download other programs and whatnot, but the actual... platforming and survival horror aspects felt very clunky. The character controls are tanky and awkward (just because they lampshade that in-game doesn't mean it's an automatic excuse!) and in Albino's LP there's multiple instances of the enemy spawning and placement being unfair and frustrating. Also some parts like the "activate 30 things in 10 minutes and if you fail you have to do the whooooole thing over again!" section just don't seem very fun in general. I will give them credit where it's due, though, the AR footage looks very convincing and spooky. Overall it feels like a game that people would otherwise rate as a 5 or 6/10 but people seem to artificially prop it up as being better than that because of the meta gimmicks.
