@@stagelights_ sure it doesn't scale as well as x mult, but it's not like you don't need flat mult. it's just that basically all late game builds get plenty of flat mult from hand levels. as far as shoot the moon goes, each queen in hand is roughly as good as 10 pluto cards (depending on what your chip situation is) It's also nice that card in hand scoring happens before any joker scoring does, so you don't miss out if you have something like a cavendish that you want to copy with a brainstorm or if your finisher boss is amber acorn

@@TheCardq Nearly every time I try to utilize Shoot the Moon, I end up regretting it. You have less cards in hand to discard, making it harder to draw the hand you want (unless you are already doing high card build, maybe pairs). A recent run I had actually did fairly well with it, only because I had a 10 hand size AND got a mime shortly after. I still ended up selling tossing it around Ante 5-6, since I started having enough Steel on the Qs that the +mult wasn't being as important for scoring, and I could utilize the slot for something better. Then I could use Strength on the Q to make them K. Seed NSWRQEPQ if you want to check it (was using Zodaic deck on Black Stake, I think).

Hi prof, got a content idea for you: salvage runs. not sure if you’d be interested in it, if it’s been mentioned to you before, or if other balatro creators have done something similar to this, but i think it’d be really interesting. so viewers (or subs) have some run that has not gone well for them, they submit their save files to you (perhaps slightly earlier than the run being completely dead), and have you salvage them i think it’d be entertaining/educational to see what you could do with some suboptimal setups, maybe a setup you usually wouldn’t do yourself

This is a great idea. If you require submissions to be at the start of Gold Stake Ante 3, that means some shape for the game has to have been set up but still enough space to recover.

At 14:31 the professor got ludicrously lucky. - Business card and blueprint triggered on every face card (1 in 2 chance 6 times, or 1 in 64) - First lucky card gave mult and money (1 in 5 and 1 in 15, or 1 in 75) - Second lucky card gave money only (1 in 15) - Glass card broke (1 in 4) This adds up to a total probability of (1/64)(1/75)(1/15)(1/4) or 1 in 280,000 for this hand to trigger every probability except for the second lucky card not giving mult. Calculated.

Wow, I heard a lot about this channel, but i thought all the lessons to be had were already made, and yet there's still daily content. This topic in particular is one I've been wondering for a while, I got a baron/blueprint/brainstorm/mime run and felt like I could never manage to reach an e score again without just doing the same build or a variation on it.

@@jblen Yeah, if you want to reach e, repeated x mult is the way to do it! Baron and Mime definitely aren't the only options, though :3 (It's even possible to get e without any repeated x mult from jokers, I remember I had one run where I had two eternal Madness (I got really lucky with an Anhk) that got up to about 11x mult each, and a Brainstorm that just happened to be eternal as well. I was able to score e11 without any glass cards!

@upsidewalks If I got all the math right, it's approximately 0.000138%, or one in _725,000._ (For reference, the chance of a joker being negative is 0.03%/one in 3,000) For the fellow math nerds that are curious how I got this number: The base chances of jokers/tarots/planets in the shop is 20/4/4. With the tarot/planet merchants, they each up that number to 9.6. (If you're curious, the second tiers up it to 32, magic trick adds another 4 for cards, and ghost deck adds another 2 for spectral cards.) I then added up 20+9.6+9.6, divided 100 by that number to get a percentage,multiplied that by 9.6, and then converted _that_ number into a decimal. I also obviously just converted 1/22 (chance of getting Fool out of 22 tarot cards) into another decimal. I then just cubed both (for 3 cards in the shop), multiplied those numbers together, and multiplied by 100 to convert the decimal into a percentage, which came out to 0.000138%!

Honest question (and pardon my ignorance): why is better to copy the golden seal joker insted of the retrigger face card jocker? shouldn't be the same result (with extra for the retriggers)

Without any copies and just sock & buskin and golden ticket, you're getting 2x1 golden ticket activations. With blueprint copying ticket you get 2x2 ticket activations (4), but when copying sock & buskin you get 3x1 ticket activations (only 3)

Does the viability of everything really suck? Every single game has that issue I think. When I played darkest dungeon I had to figure out what trinkets were good. When I played slay the spire I had to figure out what cards were good. Same with path of exile. On and on. I actually like that about games. If everything is the same powerfulness then your choices don’t matter. I like the learning process of figuring out what’s good.

everything CAN be good for beating ante 8, albeit some cards are definitely very situational. however if you want to go far beyond that, you have to be a lot more picky

That's not true. At least for me. You don't need to make everything equal in power, you just need to give player enough choice to play with. If you got only 2-3 strategies for the endgame, in a roguelike with 150 different jokers, using the same ones becomes boring really quickly.

im pretty sure blueprint always goes on the Sock n Buskin, right? There were a couple times where you moved it to a retrigger joker for one specific effect, but the entire hand was face cards so retriggering SnB would retrigger ANY effects they might have, unless I'm missing something.

Blueprint on Golden Ticket: $8 per trigger, retrigger for another $8 = *$16 per card* Blueprint on Sock and Buskin: $4 per trigger, retrigger twice for another $4 and $4 = *$12 per card* In general you want to balance copying effects and retriggers for the highest numbers

wrt golden ticket, copying sock and buskin gives $4*(1 trigger from playing card + 1 trigger from sock and buskin + 1 trigger from blueprint = 3 triggers) = $12. copying golden ticket gives ($4 from golden ticket + $4 from blueprint = $8)*(1 trigger from playing card + 1 trigger from sock and buskin = 2 triggers) = $16. in general you want to balance the number of effects and triggers. same is true for baron/mime setups and hack/idol setups. baron/idol is the effect, mime/hack is the trigger.

It's flat x mult. You need repeated x mult for a build to be endless viable, even a x10 is just one extra e (Also, he knew he was going to switch off lucky cards soon anyway)

@SomeGalNamedEve I do think that if you ban ALL repeatable xMult (including weaker options like Photograph, Ancient Joker, and Bloodstone, as well as Glass, Polychrome, and Steel cards and Observatory) then Lucky Cat becomes one of the best remaining options for scoring. Constellation is probably also a pretty good contender, and obviously Yorick and Canio are quite good if you can find them.

Baron says each king in hand gives *1.5. This counts as a hand in held ability for the mime, hence the mime retriggers it, giving you x2.25 for each king. Then, with brainstorms and blueprints you can copy both, making go that each king in hand gives you, let’s say, with only one blueprint on baron, (1.5^2)^2, roughly x5. If you make steel cards, they trigger twice for mime, giving you 2.25^3 ~ х11 for each king in hand. If you have red seals, there is one extra trigger of a card, which gives three triggers with one mime, which with one baron and blueprint gives (1.5^3)^3, which is *38 for each red seal steel king in hand. Add more barons, mimes, the thing scales exponentially to give you e20 and so on. If you manage to get perkeo, you can copy cryptids, making you being able to make extremely large numbers of kings in hand, and getting naninf {e300+} with it

You can go very far with it if you make your deck all kings and then play high card with only kings held in hand. The 1.5x mult triggers make your score grow exponentially. Then combine it with Mime and Blueprints/Brainstorms... 📈📈

It's wrong. Coping the former would gives 4 triggers (Card triggers 2 times and 2 copies money jokers.) while coping latter only gives 3 triggers(Card triggers 3 times and 1 copy of money joker).

This is not correct. Blueprinting ticket gives two triggers per retrigger, so a total of four ticket hits. Copying sock only gives two retriggers, so that's only 3 ticket hits
