I think so, the more surplus you have in case of emergency the better although I will say that it applies best to Winter in RoG and DST more so than Shipwrecked here.

you should probably prepare for the hurricane season pretty soon. get a chimnea, a lightning rod, a good source of food. setting up fish farms might be a good idea, just make sure you put some ballphin palaces nearby so random crocs dont show up and eat all your fish. then you should think about gathering materials for sandbags (flooding during monsoon season is the worst)
